In France a teenager slashed a Jewish teacher on the street. In response to this event a man named Zvi Ammar, the head of Israelite of Marseille, suggested that Jews do not wear the kippas, to stay safe. My opinion is that Jewish people should have the right to choose. If they decide to wear the kippa, they should have the freedom to show their religion and be proud. Although if they want to be safe, they could decide not to where it. If I was a Jew my decision would be to where the kippa when I am around a group of people. I would do this because I could both stay safe and show my religion. When I would be alone, I wouldn’t wear it. I would not wear this for my safety, and if I was alone, I’m not sure if someone would try to help. Even though
In the article “How Ugly Schools Uniforms Will Save Education” by Belinda Luscombe found in Time, the author explains how various school problems which lead to crime and disobedience of law could be solved by introducing school uniforms. There are often arguments about what to wear at school. “It's a debate that sucks up a lot of time for school administrators. And parents. But it's the world's easiest education problem to solve: school uniforms.” The author's main point is to make people aware of the need of school uniforms and how it helps solve many crucial problems.
Yet, in 1999, when Serrano High School first banned the wearing of clothes with certain colors because they were feared to be "gang-related", the students had no choice but to comply. While the School Board does retain the right to censor some forms of expression because they are inappropriate in language or may cause a disruption to the learning process, the idea that students are not allowed to wear clothes because of their color begins to push the envelope. In 2003 the school board took this a step further and banned any hat with a logo other than the schools logo on it because of the prevalence of hats with inappropriate logos on them that might be gang-related or have a double-meaning. However, this reasoning was never justified with any event or occurrence that would prove these hats were becoming an issue of security for the students. Often times, the only form of expression a High School age student has is the clothing they wear, and the banning of their selection of clothing without giving justification is equivalent to restricting any other form of free speech without justification. The fact that school boards only vaguely justify their reasons for certain dress code restrictions is enough to warrant a reasoned inquiry by the students into why their speech is being suppressed.
Should Jews stop wearing their Kippahs, Well my answer would be no. I say that the Jews should still wear their Kippahs and fight, I know that the Jews are being killed and it's a scary thing but it's also a part of their religion to wear their Kippahs, wearing a Kippah is a Jewish thing that over time has associated with the Jewish and shows respect to God. I don't Know about you but that sounds like something that's important to the Jewish religion, so instead of taking off the Kippah and putting it away until the brutal actions die down, I say that the Jews wear it and show everyone what they stand for. If you look at the article in the fourth paragraph under the heading ¨Tough Decision had to be made¨ ¨Zvi Ammar who is the head
Should Jews stop wearing their Kippahs, Well my answer would be yes. What the author is telling us in this article is that Jews are the most targeted people today and because of that the head of israelite consistory Zvi Ammar has asked the Jews not to wear their Kappas and keep it tucked away and hidden until these brutal acts die down. Even though it was a tough decision that had to make it was the safest one.
The bombing of the Twin Towers turned America’s focused toward the Middle East. The War on Terrorism began in earnest. This war has brought about more than one conflict. As a nation, the United States is unique. The government is not run by any particular regime or religion, there is freedom. Yet, this is our unique brand of freedom. The Middle East is full of peoples with their own way of life that do not necessarily agree with the way we see freedom. Lila Abu-Lughod discusses one of the many difference between the United States and the Middle East, the use of head coverings and the burqa, in her article “Do Muslim Women Really Need Saving?” She examines the cultural significance and different types of veiling.
Some Muslim women believe that although the principles of modesty are clearly outlined in the Qu’ran, they perceive the wearing of the headscarf as a cultural interpretation of these scriptures. These women sometimes believe that the values espoused by the wearing of the headscarf can be achieved in other ways. Some women believe that while the hijab allowed women in the past to engage in public society without garnering attention, the headscarf in contemporary Western society brings more attention to women and is thus contradictory to its original purpose. Others believe that the hijab and other external practices have become inappropriately central to the practice of Islam, and instead choose to focus on their internal and spiritual relationship with God.While some women might choose not to wear the hijab, most Muslim women agree that it is a woman’s choice whether or not she wears the hijab. Many Muslim and Arab women who have chosen not to wear the hijab are often staunch advocates of a woman’s right to choose to
Jews should stop wearing kippas. Jews should stop wearing kippas because in the article, “French Jews struggle with an identity dilemma as violence increases,” it says, “A machete-wielding 15-year-old slashed a Jewish teacher in the street.” This phrase means that, people in the world are against Jews, and are aiming against them. It would be safer for people who believe in the Jewish religion not to wear their kippas for their own safety.
I believe that Jews should keep wearing their kippas. I believe this because it would not be fair to them if they could not still continue some of the practices of their religion. This situation in France relates to the United States because they are both having problems with showing their support to a religion. In the United States it is muslim women who wear their headscarves, and in France the situation is that Jews can not wear their kippas. Anytime either one of these religions wear one of these they get persecuted by somebody. The Jews are persecuted by a hate group called ISIS, and the muslims are persecuted by everyone because ISIS gives muslims a terrible representation. In the Article of the Week it says,”Harassment threats, and vandalism
In fact, the use of a kippah is a great statement, and forces the one who brings it to live up to a certain level of behavior. A person has to think twice before sneaking into the bank row, or reprimanding an incompetent waiter. The use of a kippah makes one an ambassador of the Torah and in him all the Jews reflect. The actions of someone wearing a kippa can lead to Kidush Hashem (sanctification
Losing one's identity and beliefs has become very challenging due to the current violence in reference to the French Jews. It's hard to take a stance on one side or the other, since I see benefits from both. The french jews, just like everyone else, should have the freedom to express themselves and their religion. One way they do this is by wearing a skullcap which is called kippah in Hebrew. There right for freedom of religion should allow them to wear, believe, and worship what they want. On the other hand it seems as if the government is trying to protect the French Jews by masking their religion. The government thinks the French Jews will not be noticed and therefore, will look like the rest of society. While that being a nice suggestion,
"I went to a catholic school, and underneath my school uniform, I wore a metal shirt." said George Stroumboulopoulos from brainyquotes.com. Did you know that nineteen percent of schools reported to wearing uniforms in the 2009-2010 school year? Many students are opposed to uniforms. On the other hand, some teachers approve them. I think students should not have to wear uniforms. Uniforms do not let students express themselves, promote conformity over individuality, and do not improve attendance, academic preparedness, or test results.
In this paper you will find four main reasons why all public schools should adopt a school uniform policy, and there is a paragraph with a counter argument with school uniforms. There is a discussion on how the crime rate decreases amongst students, how uniforms save the families money, how gang related activities have decreased, and how there is less stress between students and parents. By the time you finish reading this paper, you too should agree that all public schools should adopt a school uniform policy.
Have you ever had to wear a school uniform? Did you you love it, or hate it? I’m here today to explain my stance on school uniforms. I believe that having a school uniform would be a good thing for multiple reasons. The first being how it would completely and utterly eradicate the issue of dress code. The next reason is how it would be able to create a more focused learning environment by eliminating clothing distractions. The most important reason in my mind however, is how it could drastically increase student safety at school. Now I will go a bit more in depth as I explain these reasons…
School Uniforms are being pushed more and more in schools, but what is commonly thought of when the words “school uniform” is said? For most people the picture of children in the same colored uniforms gathered in front of a Catholic Church or a private school is displayed in their mind. This picture is one of the many problems with school uniforms. Instead of being seen as an individual, students are seen as just another kid in a uniform attending a fancy private school. The students cannot develop the self-expression that is crucial to their development at this age. Uniforms are thought to create a more protected campus and learning environment, however, if someone wants to bully someone else, clothes are not going to stop them. The cost, which is usually seen as a pro, can actually be more than people anticipate. As one can see, in the best interest of any student, school uniforms should not be made part of the dress code.
Recently there has been a push towards banning religious symbolism from the media, especially the hijab. The hijab is a veil that Muslim women wear around their heads to cover their hair and their bosoms; it symbolizes faith and modesty. Many people fear or in some cases feel “bad” for people who wear the headscarf including niqabs and burqas because they are uneducated and/or ignorant of Islamic teachings which lead them to create inaccurate assumptions and accusations on the matter. Most may believe banning the head scarf will benefit the community in ways that they believe will make people feel more comfortable and they also believe that it will benefit the women who wear the hijab because of the belief that Muslim women who wear the headscarf are oppressed, however, banning the head scarf would lead to discrimination, the contradiction of Canadian values, and go against the religious beliefs of Muslims.
