Kennedy had done a lot of work for being president only for three years. Some of the legislative laws he passed was that he abolished the federal death penalty. He also made executive orders prohibiting racial discrimination and laid the groundwork for Civil Rights Act of 1964. He also initiated the project Apollo to take a man to the moon. One of Kennedy’s biggest failures was the Bay of Pigs which made Kennedy look bad and had distrust between himself and the so called experts. B. Support for #3: President Kennedy was most well-known for the Cuban Missile Crisis which began on October 14, 1962 and ended peacefully on October 28, 1962. The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest America had ever come to nuclear war (Reeves). President Kennedy wanted to put an end to racial discrimination.

Kennedy had many accomplishments during his short presidency. One of these accomplishments was in regards to the Cuban Missile Crisis. He played a lead role in figuring out how to settle this with the Soviet Union. He also abolished the federal death penalty in 1962. He initiated Project Apollo which ended up accomplishing landing the first humans on the moon between 1969-1972!

JFK was involved in many aspects of domestic policy including civil rights and space exploration. JFK laid the foundation for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by proposing the legislation the year prior. President Kennedy supports equality for all, saying, “And this Nation, for all its hopes and all its boasts, will not be fully free until all its citizens are free” (Document G). President Kennedy also pushed for innovation and exploration of space. He “[believed] that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth” (Document D).

John F. Kennedy was elected during the Cold War which was fought between the United States and the Soviet Union. Citizens of the United States needed a leader while communism was spreading and dangerous weapons were being manufactured. Kennedy’s inaugural address was delivered on January 20th, 1961 in Washington, D.C. Kennedy envisioned bringing peace with other countries and uniting democratic countries to conquer communism. He dreams of bringing enemies together and creating a global alliance. Kennedy provides appeal to patriotism, appeal to religion, parallelism and antithesis to express unity and peace.

In the beginning Kennedy lacked in making big decisions. When he was asked to invade Cuba and to take down Castro he went along because the CIA told him to invade. After the mission failed terribly he realized it was time to make his own decisions. Kennedy interfered between other countries battles to become communist or become capitalist leading to many little wars. Some of the little wars such as Turkey kept countries capitalist creating more allies to the United States. The fight with Cuba, led to increasing tension in the world which increased the chances of nuclear war. When the chance of nuclear war escalated to the point of pointing missiles at each other, Kennedy made a deal with Castro which decreased pressure between Cuba and the US. Kennedy strongly believed not only in helping your own country but helping those around the United States. Therefore, he created the Peace Corps. The Kennedy Administration adverted many catastrophes during its shortened term using its leader's young mind and ability to negotiate with their peers. The Cold War tested the young John F. Kennedy because he had to stay composed to his country yet control the melt down his administration had just been put through with The Bay of Pigs Invasion. Kennedy had always tried to search for ways to avoid any military actions and he found the correct ways to use language rather than weapons to get his point across to Soviet Russia that he would not tolerate any missiles so close to his country. The Cuban Missile Crisis could be known as President Kennedy’s greatest success. Due to the Cold War, tensions were high between the Russia and the United States. Kennedy discovered that the Soviet Union was constructing nuclear and long range missiles at a site in Cuba, which was dangerously close to America. Kennedy handled a difficult situation that could have had devastating effects on the U.S.

John F. Kennedy was the 35th president. He was president during a rough time in America's history. He had fought for civil rights, he had to deal with the Cuban missile crisis, and had to go through some of the cold war before he was assassinated. John F. Kennedy made a positive impact on society by helping the civil rights movement, keeping the country at peace with Cuba, and if he hadn’t been assassinated our society would be better than it is now.

On October 22 JFK announced that the Soviets had long range missiles in Cuba, which posed a dangerous threat to the United States. Kennedy ordered a naval blockade to stop Soviets from delivering more missiles. The Soviets on the other hand were heading right for the blockade and Americans prepared for war. Kennedy and the Soviets had secret negotiations were at the end the Soviets offered a deal. The deal was the Soviets would remove missiles from Cuba if the US promised to not invade Cuba and they had to remove their missiles from Turkey. On October 28 both Kennedy and Khrushchev came to an agreement because neither one wanted nuclear war. Kennedy’s quick thinking and his willingness to negotiate with the Soviets was the only reason the US was able to avoid going to nuclear war. Being the only catholic and youngest president many rumors started to circulate stating that forty-three year old, Kennedy, was too young to be president and that he lacked experience to be able to handle the cold war diplomacy. Also in regard to the cold war, three years before the 1960 election, Soviet Russia had launched Sputnik, the first manmade satellite to orbit earth. This was a big sign that america was behind in terms of science and technology, and that Soviet Russia was close to venturing into outer space. Both Presidents had done pretty well in the years that they were able to serve but like everyone else who had ever existed, a mistake or bad move was bound to surface sooner or later most of which were during Kennedy’s Presidency. One of the most famous blunders created throughout the early 60s was named The bay of Pigs invasion. This disaster took place in Cuba, an island 90 miles off the Florida coast.
