As I, Klaudia Hoxha (forensic technician), approached the crime scene at 4 o'clock pm at the residence of Josh Powell. As i approached the scene i noticed 4 reporting officers, and the fire fighters who put the fire out, were present at this two story single family dwelling. I approached the reporting officers and fire fighters and took copies of there reports. I then immendently, sent in my team to take pictures and any kind of evidence they can find. From the looks this residential seemed occupied. A fire expands horizontally and vertically from it's point of origin, which in this case is the center of the house. According to a report, i noticed a witness who was a member/ social worker from Powell's meeting groups ,gave a statement that …show more content…
Among the revelations: Josh Powell likely had an affair months before his wife disappeared. Also, Susan Powell wrote in her journal that she was afraid of her husband and worried he might kill her. The West Valley City Police Department has come under criticism for not doing enough to bring Josh Powell to justice. Documents show that detectives doubted Josh Powell's bizarre story that he left his sleeping wife at home in the middle of the night to take the boys camping in the Utah desert during a snowstorm, and they questioned his odd behavior in the days after the disappearance.Susan Powell was reported missing after failing to show up for work. Josh Powell maintained his innocence and said he had taken the couple's young boys on a midnight camping trip in freezing temperatures the night she was last seen. Police found a small amount of her blood on the floor next to a recently cleaned sofa and carpet in their house, and Josh Powell's bizarre behavior following the disappearance left lingering questions. When he arrived at his house following his purported camping trip, he had his wife's cellphone in his van, with the digital SIM card removed. He couldn't explain why he had her phone, police said. Asked why he didn't tell his boss he wouldn't be coming into work that day, a Monday, Josh Powell said he thought it was Sunday. The day after Susan Powell was reported missing, Josh Powell
Using the story from The Outsiders (read in Reading class), brainstorm all the crimes from the book.
The police report ((Crash Report Number/Agency Case Number 16-238828) (Report Date 9/6/2016) has numerous inconsistencies and beginning with the license plate. The police report stated that my dad’s license plate was a “Veteran Plate” when in fact it was a “Patriot” plate depicting an American Bald Eagle, the New Mexico flag, and the U.S. flag. The second contradiction was the color of my father 2014 Kia Sedona, which in the report stated that it was “Silver”, the true color of the van is “Silverstone Beige”. The van was more beige than
On September 12, 2017, members of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responding to Howard University Hospital for a radio run in reference to an assault. The complainant reported to officers that Helena Lee hereinafter referred to as the defendant assaulted her by pinning her down to the ground with her knees and punching her in the face.
There are a lot of social problems in my community. The most current social issue is that Newark, NJ has laid off 167 police officials on November 30th of 2010. This was 14% of the police working for Newark. They were discharged from several precincts within Newark. Jen Chung from Gothamist stated "crime has increased there have been numerous carjacking’s—victims include a staffer in the NJ Attorney General's office and a Newark school principal—and shootings (since Thursday, four people have been shot dead and six have been wounded)." Since the layoff of police, residents have
1. Information regarding the Department of Corrections’ investigation of complaints related to several correctional officers will spread throughout the institution along certain channels (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2008). Starting with the prison warden this information will need to be efficient and accurate as it travels throughout the organization. Being that the prison warden will be the first to be informed of this information, the chain of command would be downward communication. This type of communication allows a clear passageway for the information to be sent to subordinates and provides for an effective management of the tone and delegation of the message (Stojkovic et al., 2008). The channels that are chosen in regards to the
Facts: A fire was evolved on September 23, 1981 in a log cabin due to a hot plate. The hot plate was left on with an accelerant and kerosene near by. The owner of the cabin, Henry Xavier Kennedy was convicted of Arson as he obtained an insurance policy for $40K on the cabin five days prior to this fire and police found evidence that the construction business owned by Mr. Kennedy was losing money, and Mr. Kennedy's alibi was insufficient to eliminate him as a suspect.
It is unfortunate that crime exists in our daily lives. There really is no way to stopping crime completely, no matter how many laws or punishment are present, people will continue to keep breaking rules. There are many theories of why that may be the case, for example, Caesar Lombroso and his “atavistic” theory with the Positivist School theory and how people were “born criminals”, or the Rational Choice Theory, devised by Cornish and Clarke, described that people could think rationally and how people will naturally avoid pain and seek pleasure referred to as “hedonism” (Cartwright, 2017, lecture 4). Since it is apparent that crime will continue to exist, it is not only important to understand the study of crime and the feedbacks to it,
Jackson County arrest records are commonly sussed out along with criminal conviction reports because both legal documents prove to be very helpful when it comes to background investigations. Criminal background checks usually involve reviewing certain documents pertaining to the history of the person being scrutinized. This means that all things that transpired before the investigation will be delved into. This will surely unravel certain predicaments and if an untoward incident had happened before, a felony committed for instance, will be known. Knowing such information will definitely be a great help especially in identifying a repeat offender's tendency to commit any illicit activities. Collectively, documents pertaining to such crucial
The murder of a little girl has haunted Boulder, Colorado. Many people have heard of the famous case of the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. However nobody knows what truly happened the night of her murder. There have been an abundance of conspiracies to what really happened the night of december 25th. 1996. Finding out there was a significant amount of evidence was great news to the DA of Boulder county, and also the many cops of Boulder; but the question still lingers nearly twenty years later who killed JonBenet Ramsey?
In 1994 a report by the Mollen commission on police corruption in New York exposed disproportionate corruption within the department. Violent crime, including gang type activity, cops in uniform routinely storming drug locations and stealing narcotics, money weapons and whatever they felt like taking. On duty police officers riding alongside drug dealers, providing protection while the dealers carried big amounts of drugs and cash. The commission also found cops who became drug dealers themselves starting up their own drug dealing networks and delivery centers. (Neighborhood Explanations) Although most officers are honest and hard-working, the Mollen report exposed serious, violent activity by some in the department.
Thousands of fires occur on a yearly basis throughout the United States. Whether it is forest fires, house fires, or any other event that involves uncontrollable flames, the outcome will always be the same; high amounts of destruction and physical damage. When fire emergencies occur, responding to the incident may not be much of a complication as apposed to determining the source from where the fire started or what triggered its behavior, which is truly the challenge. In order to do so, a fire investigator has to be present at the scene of the fire after it has been eliminated. The investigator, after reviewing any possible marks or behavior trails, will conclude if the incident was indeed an accident or intentional, thus making it an act
The actions to take in this scenario will be to find evidence among the crowd of 100 onlookers. In some cases people in the crowd likes to videotape things that are happening in front of them so one of the onlookers could have videotaped something and probably did not know it. “Is there any reason someone would say they saw you at the scene prior to the fire?” (Tunkel, 2015). Instant videotaping of the onlookers will likewise arrange for a recording that will help with spectator in putting and watching standpoints and will also arrange for evidence if certain people will come onward with declarations that are not reliable with the substantiation or other witness statement. “I’ve heard several officers say that they would just confiscate the
On April 05, 2016 at approximately 1518 hours, I was dispatch to 2004 Pine Street in reference to a death investigation. Upon my arrival, I met with Detective Campbell who was the lead Investigator at the scene. Detective Campbell stated that the victim neighbors reported a strong smell coming from the victim’s (Cortiz Lazarz) residence. The neighbors called 911 and Officer Volk was the first responded officer on scene. Defective Campbell and officer Volk stated that the victim located on the living room floor, fazing the south from the residence. Detective Campbell requested I process the scene for evidence and documentation.
With all of the different reasons for setting arson fires, as well as the large variance in profiles of arsonists, investigating them can be difficult. This difficulty is compounded by the amount of evidence than can be destroyed by the act of arson. Arson investigators must begin by trying to find the point of origin; a task that can be made very difficult by tossing aside the debris and damaged items while the fire is being fought (Swanson, et al. 2006). If arson is suspected, the point of origin can be a deciding factor in declaring a fire intentional, especially if the fire began in the center of the room
An article in daily crime report states that a 21 years old staffers resident was walking in his area and talking on phone, when he was approached by two guys, asking him if they could use his phone, when he refused to lend them his phone, few moments later he felt something heavy on the back his head and he fell on the ground and those two guys took his phone and the cash he had and fled from the scene on foot. This type of behavior is intolerable; now people can 't even take a walk in their area and have the freedom of using phone? They have to hide their phone away in the fear of being robbed and expect that someone might be following them to take away his/her belongings. This is a typical criminal justice example, that we need more security not only in the famous areas but also in the residential areas where people 's lives could be in danger any minute. I wonder once the suspects are caught, would they be put in jail or grant a bail, since the prisons are already full of criminals and there is no space for any minor criminals. Is it guaranteed that after being granted a bail, the suspects won 't repeat this incident? This may seem like a minor case, or daily story, but the people who are the victim to such crimes actually don 't observe this as a minor crime and they want full justice from the police.
