I will briefly summarize Rousseau’s argument regarding the concept of a general will in an attempt to tie it to the book, Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.

When it comes to Freudian psychoanalysis, nothing is ever what it seems. The aim of psychoanalytic criticism is to decode symbolism and discover the covert meanings in a work of literature. Sigmund Freud, a neuropsychiatrist from Austria, first proposed the ideas central to psychoanalytic criticism in the early twentieth century. Freudian theory focuses on concepts which are well-known and popularized today, such as the Oedipus complex, and introduces the distinction between the conscious and the unconscious. It also categorizes the mind into three distinct areas: the childlike id, the mature superego, and the ego which strives to keep the other two balanced. In literary criticism, psychoanalysis aims to
Growing up can be tough. Sometimes it seems impossible for children to find where they belong. Though most kids have hidden talents such as football or singing, they never seem to utilize them. Suppose if they were to join clubs involving these talents that they enjoy, they’d be able to find others with similar interests and in return find where they belong.
”This is confident John. This is his first ever fight in a ring. He's against The Pock.
I think that the reason why the Author, Joan Bauer, didn't put any political parties in to the novel because she didn't want to offend anyone or make it seem like one party is better than the other. I asume that certain parts of the story would change if she would have added Republicans, Democrates or Independents into the book. If I had to guess what political party G.T. belonged to I would say democrate, because Democrates belive mostly that no mater what race, ethic, religion, or how well your doing financially that everyone is treated equally. In the story G.T. was always willing to help anyone and never even thought about himself or his cancer and that he had an excuse to lay down or mope. I belive that when G.T. made the anouncement
Violence has become commonplace within films and other forms of media so much so that many viewers may not find these scenes to be overly disturbing. However, violence is more than just explosions across the screen. It can take on several forms such as violent acts that are witnessed everyday, or even battling thoughts that are within the mind. Two films, which examine these less distinct methods of violence, are Fight Club and Do The Right Thing. As indicated by the titles, the methods within the films are juxtaposed in several ways. However, both Fight Club and Do The Right Thing offer a glimpse into how violence is used to assert one’s presence in order to fight against dehumanization. In her novel Precarious Life, Judith Butler writes,
"There is enough on earth for everybody's need, but not for everyone's greed.” Mahatma Gandhi
Fight Club is a movie that is based on a Chuck Palahniuk novel under the same name. The movie adaptation was written by Jim Uhls, directed by David Fincher and released October 15, 1999. The movie is about the life of the narrator named Jack, a depressed insomniac who works as a recall coordinator for an automobile company. Jack is refused medication by his doctor, he turns to attending a big series of support groups for different illnesses and uses these support groups for emotional release and this helps to temporarily cure his insomnia. This newfound cure ceases to help him when a girl, Marla Singer who is not a victim of any illness for which the support groups are offered begins to attend the support groups. The narrator returns from a business trip to find his apartment destroyed by an explosion, he calls Tyler Durden, a soap maker and salesman he met on one of his business trips. Tyler offers the narrator a place to stay and together they start an underground “Fight Club” the narrator uses as his therapy for his insomnia. The club grows and becomes a source of psychotherapy for many other men. One of the concepts highlighted in the movie is how modern-day men in a supposedly civilized world use violent aggressive acts towards each other to as a means of emotional release and satisfaction.
“Fight Club” is infused with a deeper meaning then what the title presents. The fight between money and consumer goods is a battle between the fists. Fight club makes us realise that we are immersed in a world of materialistic possessions which makes us less satisfied. These ideas that are presented by Fincher is what makes “Fight club” a dark yet enlightening film. It’s insanely genius, twisted and thrilling by David Fincher.
