The holocaust had a major effect on Judaism as a whole. This conflict between tragedy and faith is not new. Jewish history shows us that the jewish people have undergone the most terrible persecutions and genocide at the hands of many oppressors. Whether it be about the pogroms, crusades, destruction of the Temples, the jewish people have been at the brunt of the most terrible atrocities, and yet this does not shake their faith,Anti-Semitism was nothing new. This became even more evident with the unmasking of the holocaust.The philosophical question of “Shall the Judge of the earth not do justice?” applies just as much to the seemingly useless suffering of an individual as to that of six million individuals. If it could be dealt with on an individual basis before the Holocaust, why couldn 't it be dealt with in the same way afterwards? The difference is one of quantity, but the quality of the question remains the same.
When I visited my first Jewish synagogue, I expected it to be very different. My previous experience with religious ceremonies was limited to a few visits to Baptist churches. The most surprising thing for me at this one was, oddly enough, its similarity to Christian services and rituals. I went into the religious visit expecting an enormous difference in the customs and perhaps even in the attitudes of the people attending the service. What I found instead was a religious ceremony very reminiscent of the Christian ones I’ve been to before.
The dynamic nature of Judaism offers a successful living religion as a result of its strongly withheld characteristics. Through essential characteristics such as central beliefs, sacred texts, writings, ethical teachings and rituals and ceremonies, Judaism offers a dynamic nature and liveable religion that connects an individual and society with its roots. The way this living religion advances and grows is because of its dynamic characteristics as a whole. Importantly, these characteristics combined form the true nature of the religion rather than separately.
Judaism, which originated in the middle east, is one of the oldest religions in the world. Judaism is the religion from where Catholicism and Islam have their roots. The main difference between Judaism and the previously mentioned religions is that Judaism is based on the old testament entirely excluding the new testaments in its teachings. Jews believe that they are the people chosen by God and that because of the covenant they have the duty, more than any other group of people, to keep the law of God. The law of God in Judaism comes in the form of the Torah. The books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, which are said to have been written by Moses, form the Torah.

Throughout history the Jewish people have undertaken a great deal of enslavement. They were first enslaved by the Egyptians than later enslaved by the Germans. Their enslavement has defined their identity. One can dispute the Jews would not be in existence if they were not enslaved. From the article, The Sacrifice of Daniel, on the Believer, author Josh Kun disputes, “there is no Jewish identity if the Jew is loved.” (Kun p. 369). The Jewish identity is rooted in a passive identity with a need to be detested by superior identities. This shows the Jewish sexual identity has a lack of masculinity.
Judaism originated a very long time ago, it is a part of the Bronze Age Polytheistic Ancient Semitic religions. The Jewish calendar goes back more than 5000 years, most scholars date the beginning of the religion of the Israelites to the known founder, Abraham, whose life is generally dated around 2000 to 1800 B.C.E. Abraham came to believe that the universe was the works of a single creator, and taught this to other believers. Therefore, Judaism is the first recorded religion to advocate monotheism, meaning there is only one God. Both Christianity and Islam found some of their roots in Judaism, about 2,000 years after Abraham, Jesus was born into Judaism. Then after Jesus, Muhammad could trace his ancestry back to Abraham. Judaism has three essential parts the written Torah, the recognition of Israel, which are the descendants of Abraham, as uniquely holy people chosen by God, and also it is a requirement that Israel lives in accordance with God's laws as it’s said in the Torah.
The topic I choose for my topic was the Orthodox Jewish population. I choose this topic for the reason that, I really do not know that much about the Jewish culture. With that being said I am interested in knowing how they deal with a crisis, or what their belief system is when it comes to seeking help outside of their community. My objective is to identify the barriers, institutional and personal, that must be overcome before the Orthodox Jew can receive adequate mental health care, or in any other field such as substance abuse.

I learned a lot of facts about Judaism that I had previously been ignorant to. The banishment and exile of Jews from the ancient Kingdom Judah to Babylon resulted in dramatic changes to Jewish culture and religion. This allowed the circumstances for the development of various sects, each of which claimed exclusive authority to represent "Judaism"; marriage with members of other sects is forbidden. Although priests controlled the rituals of the Temple, the scribes and sages, later called rabbis dominated the study of the Torah. Have you ever noticed that when people talk of Jews, at least in a protestant church, that the Israelite legalism, rituals, dress and hair standards are the first things to mind? The topic of Judaism may come with stereotypical opinions and “Christian Judgement” that are without merit or understanding. Judaism, by a Christian worldview, had to change after Pentecost, since the animal sacrifice to atone for sin Christ completed on the Cross. However, Judaism does not accept this truth of Christ and His work on the cross, but Judaism remains in the world. So, what was this change in Judaism and when did it take place? There have been numerous fluctuations within Judaism, only the theme constructed in this essay has its foundations around the most important facet of Judaism- the Temple. With the Temple in the forefront of this essay, we will discuss the modifications that Judaism went through, at what time, different perspectives that the destruction of the Temple had, and how the Christian sect views these vagaries. The Temple destruction of A.D. 70 converted the Jewish faith in its singular fashion, while, at the same point, the Jewish faith never had a total change by always changing throughout time.
Probably the most notable challenges to Judaism is that of the Messiah. All of the covenants given to Israel, from Abraham through Moses and afterward, have built on previous ones and were limited by man’s imperfect nature and inability to remain in a covenant with God. Through God’s mercy, they were given a better covenant, the Messianic covenant. This Messiah would come through the line of David and bring forth righteousness and peace to all humans. The Messiah was expected and would be a charismatic descendant of David. He would be raised up by God and restore the kingdom of Israel. This militant messiah never came. The Jewish Question examines the criticism of Karl Marx against Bauer and his theory on the emancipation of the Jewish people. Bauer proposes the question of the “relationship of religion to the state, examining religious prejudice and political emancipation” (p. 48). In this context, Bauer addresses the need for emancipation for both the Jewish people and the state. Ultimately arriving at the idea that Jewish people must choose between a political life and a religious one. However, Marx criticizes Bauer’s argument due to its failure to address the varying degrees between political emancipation and human emancipation.
