Personality is who an individual is, how one does things, manages events and situations, and how one describes other individuals. One 's personality can help guide an individual throughout one 's life, in addition to having power over the situation or task. Many, if not all of these factors of personality, traits, and genetics, make up who an individual is. One 's may believe an individual 's personality, differences, and individualities is the core of who an individual truly is.

The word personality is known as quite a diverse concept and can be described differently in accordance to different people, it comes from the word persona which is a Latin term and is referred to as a mask which actors use when performing. Based on this it could be concluded that characteristics which are visible along with external characteristics (the aspects of us in which can be seen by others) is what personality refers to, (Schultz and Scultz, 2004). Carl Gustav Jung is a Swiss psychiatrist and the successor of psychoanalysis with important intellectual movements of the twentieth century. In his early career, Jung was influenced by the theory of Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis (Breger 2000, p. 217). However, they came into disagreement in notions which then broke their relationship. It was because Freud’s view of myth was based on reality, which there was no religion involved, whereas Jung though that myth was based on both reality and religion. Consequently, Jung’s notions were commonly accepted by society because of the wider context. Then, through his research and clinical findings, he developed some concepts like archetypes, collective unconscious, shadow, extrovert and introvert and persona (Carter 2011 p. 442). These concepts help Jung to deepen the explanation about myth. For Jung, myth is a projection of archetypes and collective unconscious. Their form are universal and identical with every society back into history. Myth can be identical because the original form, the archetypes, is configured to be the same among human's unconscious globally where people's psychic realm encounters certain motifs and typical figures that built into the structure of man’s unconsciousness (Jung Myth Ex. 3-4). Personality is not conformity or conventionality. It is not being similar or identical. This defines who one stands for. It shows how people become one of a kind. This connects with individuality and makes everyone unique in their own way. One could say he has a good personality if he can communicate with people well and helps others without being told to do so.

This week’s class we discussed about analytical psychology pioneer, Carl Jung and his accomplishments to his approach to psychodynamic method. Carl Jung’s life begin in Switzerland in 1856 and as a child he grew up as an introvert which he seemed to accept his loneliness. Jung was a disciple of Freud which later their friendship ended due to his combined methods to religion and psychology which contributed to much criticism. We explore about his disappointment on his father as he believed he was weak, powerless, and to kind. His mother dealt with the occult and which he later in life studied matters of the occult which he later in life mixed spiritual philosophies and various religions. He also believed that his mother was emotionally unstable.

Carl Jung was an influential psychologist who lived from 1875-1961. Although his theories are often related back to Freud’s concepts, Jung’s theories were vastly opposite of Freud’s focus on the role of sexuality in personality. Jung created his own concepts under the name of ‘analytical psychology’. One of Jung’s primary concepts was about extroversion, introversion, and the eight psychological types. The concept of the attitudes of introversion and extroversion and the eight psychological types grew so popular that an assessment instrument was later developed in the 1920’s by Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers; this assessment is known as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (Schultz & Schultz, 2016, p. 99). Personality influences the way people think, the view an individual has of himself or herself, how people interact amongst each other, how people regard the world, how they feel and the way they react to different circumstances (Larsen & Buss, 2005). Not only that, it also confines or expands people’s opinions and choices, enable or disable a person from sharing certain experiences as well as prompting one to take advantage. In a way, personality rests on a wide spectrum where on one end, it restricts someone and opens up the world for others on the other end (Schultz & Schultz, 2009).

Personality alludes to individual contrasts in trademark examples of considering, feeling and carrying on. The investigation of identity spotlights on two wide regions: One is understanding individual contrasts specifically identity attributes, for example, amiability or fractiousness. The personality of a person can be defined by their individuality, behaviors, opinion, and thoughts. All these aspects begin budding during childhood, and are strengthened and molded as an individual grows into adulthood. Have you ever imagined why a few people have plenty of friends while others do not? Or why others can effortlessly settle in to any communal gathering while others cannot? The difference lies due to the kind of personality these people have. While some individuals have a very likeable personality, some are rather intimidating and complex which causes others to avoid them.

In 1895, Carl Jung enrolled to the University of Basel to study science and medicine. He graduated in 1900 with a medical degree. He then did an internship under Eugen Bleuler at the Burgholzli Psychiatric clinic in Zurich. Jung studied the unconscious mind during this internship. In 1902, he received his Ph.D. at the University of Zurich with a doctoral dissertation ‘On the Psychology and Pathology of So-Called Occult Phenomena’ (Cowgil, 1997).

What is a personality? A personality is a reflection of a person identity of a human being but we don’t share the same type of personality. There are so many different type of personality in the world some people have outgoing, shy, crazy, and settle personality. There are some people where there culture and surrounding shape their personality traits. In my culture and surrounding it has help me shape my personality in many ways.

Carl Jung was a Psychologist and psychiatrist who developed a form of analytic psychotherapy. Many of his Ideas can be paralleled to religious spirituality and healing in India. In this paper, I hope to provide information about Carl Jung and his ideas about psychoanalysis, different methods of religious healing in India, and a comparison of the two.
