I regularly follow a significant number of accounts on social media who identify themselves as actors, but all too often, I don't even know how I "discovered" them. Invariably, there is a Hallmark connection in some way, and in the cast of Karis Cameron, that is absolutely true. I spotted her through my Vancouver friends and my Signed, Sealed, Delivered passion, and I am thrilled to be able to share our recent Q & A session. RH: Why did you decide to become an actress? What kind of training have you had? KC: I’ve always really liked to tell stories and to be a part of something so much bigger than just myself. I get that with acting; being a part of the production of this grand story is really something I will never get enough of. I love the process and bringing these characters to life. It really does take a full team to bring these stories to life. As far as training, I'm almost always in class …show more content…
Amidst all the glitz and glamor commonly promoted in the popular media, all too often young people enter the business with visions of fame and an appetite for fortune. In their quests, they frequently relinquish the drive when they realize that being an actor is not as easy as they thought it would be. Fortunately, Karis recognizes that a long-suffering nature is requisite for ultimate success. She takes advantage of every opportunity afforded her, and she still manages to live her life to the fullest in spite of the fact that she is still not a working actor who books roles regularly, but her will is steadfast and her outlook eternally optimistic. She is persevering in the pursuance of her passion in the classroom and in each audition sent her way because as they say, she's only one job away from success and/or
From TV to film to animation, Taraji P Henson has had a diversity of experience that is rarely highlighted or spoken of yet is a testament to her commitment to acting.. Despite that fact she remains humble and hungry in a craft that is fleeting. She remains relevant and poise to continue into the future despite the ageism that plague female actresses. Taraji believes that love is the key to being successful. Do what you love and the rest is lagniappe. I pray to have her attitude and
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” is a question that children get asked quite frequently. Most of the time, a child aims big and chooses an extravagant career, like an astronaut, a police officer, or a doctor. Obviously, it is impossible for a child to obtain one of those jobs at such a young age. However, acting in Hollywood is a possible career for a child. If a child is talented enough to be a star, then why not let them pursue their passion? While the life of being an actor in Hollywood seems like a dream to most children, fame comes with many terrible obstacles for some stars. Over the years, there has been a large debate on whether or not acting in Hollywood as a child is as picture-perfect as it seems. Hollywood is filled with tons of secrets. Why should a child be put into such an untrustworthy environment? Acting in Hollywood is in no way safe for children.
The outstanding component of acting is that it is an aspect that calls for a wide variety of skills. A single person to form a totally different personality from that possessed by the acting person must synchronize these skills. Some of the most common skills necessary for an actor are vocal projection, physical expressiveness, speech clarity, well-developed imagination, emotional facility drama interpretive ability. Also not to forget mentioning other important capabilities that an actor must have are; utilization of accents, body languages, dialects, improvisation, mimicry, emulation, stage combat and observation (Jurkowski and Francis 44). Another fascinating fact about acting is that it combines both talent and special training programs. Due to this fact it offers opportunities to any person who has an interest in becoming a theatre performer. The training has as well availed a chance for the emergence of professional actors who never seize from learning new elements from now and then. These people are among those who undergo training in various sub-disciplines making them diverse and multifunctional. An actor can be good at singing, dancing, partner work, scene work among others. Bundling all these qualities into one single person is a fascinating element which makes them fit for any duty that might be availed to them. Therefore acting as
As I wandered through the cobblestoned streets of The Town, I realized something wasn’t quite right. The People were gathered around what seemed to be a wooden platform. Some had tears in their eyes, and some looked as if they might faint. My stomach churned. The People were always happy, celebrating and laughing, never as they are now. I went to find My Human, Meg, who had bright red hair, easily found. Meg had always been kind to me and my lot, taking it upon herself to feed and shelter us. She even let me sleep on her bed on especially cold nights. Most of The People were not so kind. They drowned our runts, or those who got too old.
Over the year or so that I have been interviewing actors, I have discovered so many remarkably gifted and exceptionally grounded young people in the industry. Chatting with them and featuring them on my site is always something special, and Lizzie White is no exception. While I am new to her talent, she and I recently discussed how she got started in her acting career, what her current and notable works are, and even how she manages her free time and outside interests.
I started to doubt the video. I mean we laughed at it, but would anyone else? I had seen so many other videos that week and none of them got much of a reaction from the class. A chuckle, maybe, but nothing more than that. I expected the same. So the day I showed it in class, I just said my name and pressed play. Honestly, I just wanted to get it over with. There was a few chuckles before, “I won’t miss you anyway, you trick”, the class erupted. There aren’t words to express how good I felt in that moment. That day and all week, I was overwhelmed with praise, from some people I didn’t even know. By Friday, all of Mrs. Freda’s classes had seen it and I became somewhat a celebrity, Andin too. All anyone talked about in class was our video; every other video was compared to it, but none of them came close. The most profound thing I remember is that everyone kept asking what’s next. “Are you going to be in the play?” “Are you going become an actress, now?” I never thought about becoming an actress before. Yet, I found myself really considering this path, but I wasn’t going to dive in. I wanted to prove myself, one video wasn’t enough. I convinced Andin and together, we set to work on a 2nd script which we shot over the summer. We put both of the videos on YouTube and the 2nd, The Housewives of Rome 2, got twice as many views. I couldn’t believe it.
I have always loved acting, but never have considered it as a career, until I found out about the actress Dalila Bela (Da-LEE-la). She made me realize how much I loved to act, she is so inspiring. I found out about Dalila when she was the character “Olive” on the show “Odd Squad”. After looking into her as an actress, I found out how much she was like me and how much I wanted to do what she does. I know a lot more about her and love her more too. She has shaped me into who I am today.Dalila helping me realize I love acting, has shaped me into the person I am today because I love acting out things she's in,I am also a lot like her and everything she does is what I want to do.
“What the Hell?!” The guy yells as he flails in the cold water. He sounds more startled then angry. Thank goodness for small favors.
There was some strange stirring, heard throughout the zoo; the animals were used to it as the magnificently ornate gates slid away. The human stampede towered in, destruction with every step, gaping and point at the creatures, as if they weren’t right there in front of them. The animals found themselves filled with no such joy as another tiresome day started. Snot-filled children, obnoxious adults, screaming babies; the humans were all the same, just going through different, vexing stages. They never even spared the animals a little privacy, something as simple as eating held under scrutinizing gazes. The animals hated it, though no matter the shame it brought upon them admitting it, they thrived on it as well. The attention made them feel wanted, and though redundant, the wide-eyed wonder of the
"It's my career just as much as it is a passion. Staying relevant is difficult in this industry, and my concern over my source of income and livelihood should be understandable. It's a passion, sure, but passion doesn't pay bills. Like everyone else, we have to be good at our chosen careers. At least, we should be. That's not always the case, is it?" Her mind drifted to the actors and actresses she had met throughout the course of her life, those that appeared because they were a pretty face with mediocre acting skills. And for many of them, they had disappeared as quickly as they had come; peaking in a bright light and fading off into nothing, much like a meteor that burned up in the
I was reluctant in joining the Academy because I was nervous that I wouldn’t get in. But precisely the period before my scheduled audition a ‘frienemy’ encouraged me to try out. I built the courage to walk through the audition doors and left being placed in the intermediate level; which was quite an accomplishment. Since then I have now achieved in reaching the Advance Level of the academy! My favorite memory in the academy is when my second and third period took our first trip to the Manhattan Theater Club in New York City. This trip aided tremendously in team-building and my skills of theater analysis. I am so grateful that I took the plunge and faced my fears because the Performing Arts Academy and Mrs. Baur have made me realize that my true dreams are to become an actor. The Performing Arts floor is a safe haven for many including myself, the people can drive you crazy but that's exactly what families do.
Since a very young age, I have been highly invested in theater-a world that revolves around understanding people and the society from which they stem. To succeed in acting, one must have a grasp on philosophy, sociology, different religions, and a wide variety of cultures, so that they may portray the human experience in the most honest way possible, however brutal that might be. History, literature, music and art all come together to tell beautiful stories in theater and I wish to be able to interpret and execute these works of art in the best way possible. When preparing for a role Uta Hagen's nine questions are often one of the most essential pieces of character work an actor relies on. The first of these nine questions is “Who am I?”,
“Talent” is not like a requirement for us to become a supposedly important person because we are, just in a different way. We have our own individual importance and as we have that on our own, we also passed through experiences in a different way. Sometimes slower, sometimes faster but that doesn’t mean we won’t be what we are encouraged to be. Passing through the experience to read this chapter gives more opportunity to deeply get a knowledge of what passing through acting experience can
RH: Why did you decide to become an actor? What kind of training have you received?
Actor Michael Caine’s biography imparts impressive, but comprehensible knowledge onto his readers. Unlike, other books on acting methods, Caine’s writing puts acting tips into relatable and oftentimes humorous terms. Not to diminish Stanislavsky or Hagen, but Caine’s writing acts as a fundamental meat and potatoes manual to which any theatrical student can relate. Caine focuses little on the proper pedagogy of acting theory. Instead, he simply shares the tips he has accumulated over the years on how to perform well not only on screen, but also off screen. The book specifically lends itself to actors, like myself, who are learning the crucial differences between the two mediums: theatre and film. Caine understands the mental leap required for
