Katniss Everdeen:
Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist of the novel, and the story is told from her perspective. She is a 16-year-old girl who lives in District 12, the poorest region of a nation called Panem. She has straight black hair, olive skin and grey eyes that is a common appearance for residents who live in the Seam.
She is described as a responsible and resourceful teenager who is more mature than her age implies. She has been taking care of her mother and younger sister, Primrose, ever since her father died in a mine explosion when she was 11 year old. She is responsible for feeding her family. Since her family is poor, she is forced to hunt food in the woods outside the District, a forbidden place, with her best friend Gale. This tells us that she is a strong and unafraid girl who can do everything to protect her family. For instance on the 74th Hunger Games, when her sister was selected she volunteered to take her place, and this shows us Katniss’s protective and loveable side.
Furthermore, Katniss is independent, unsentimental, guarded, stubborn all determined. All these traits are shaped by the fact that she is a hunter. One of the reasons that she is unsentimental is because she has to hunt and kill animal. She is also athletic because of her hunting skills, especially with bows and arrows, and this turns out

In the arena when she is with a girl named Rue, her hatred towards the Capitol and her love for Rue is shown: “I can’t stop looking at Rue, smaller than ever, a baby animal curled up in a nest of netting. I can’t bring myself to leave her like this. Past harm, but seeming utterly defenseless. To hate the boy from District 1, who also appears so vulnerable in death, seems inadequate. It’s the Capitol I hate, for doing this to all of
The presence of true female bravery in many novels and films was very rare, however, the release of the series, ‘The Hunger Games’, has begun the start of the typical female protagonist, by introducing the confident character, Katniss Everdeen. The film focuses on the protagonist of the film, Katniss Everdeen, a 16 year old girl that lives in the poor District 12, which is located in the apocalyptic land Panem. This essay will analyse views towards film heroes, and the protagonist in the film, by recognising gender stereotypes, traditions, values, and beliefs to relate to modern society. In the typical western tradition, the heroes in the films are typically male and reinforce the values of the typical western society, the heroes in the films normally follow a set pattern, and this is relatable to Joseph Campbell’s
In the Book The hunger games Katniss Everdeen faces overwhelming adversity when she finds herself found in the clutches of the capital stuck in the hunger games. Katniss is able to overcome this adversity by having strong characteristics like her intelligence, resourcefulness and being courageous, these characteristics will be discussed throughout the essay outlining exactly why these characteristics help katniss in the games.
Katniss is a teenager who lives in district 12, with her mother and sister, Prim Rose. Since her father died when she was young, Katniss took it upon herself to provide for the family. She has grown up hunting with her best friend, Gale, and has provided her family. Every year the Capitol of Panem hosts The Hunger Games. It is an event that brings the people of the capitol enjoyment and they place bets on who
This made her stubborn because she didn't listen to him and just did what she thought was right. Lastly, Katniss was obstinate because during the time when she was practicing with Haymitch, she refused to do what he asked. She refused to let the Capitol what they want. This is very stubborn because it is very ignorant, as the Capitol can punish her very harshly for going against them. Another characteristic that stood out to me is the fact that Katniss is very compassionate. Katniss doesn't usually love anyone, but if she does care for one person, she cares too much. For example, Katniss deeply cared for her sister, Primrose or as Katniss called her, Prim. She even volunteered for The Games to take Prim's place as a tribute. Everyone knows this was a death trap, but Katniss did it for her sister. Katniss wasn't just compassionate for her sister, there was also Rue. Katniss didn't even know Rue that long, but she had a nice funeral for her. She treated her like her second sister. She cared for her. Finally, Katniss is very responsible. She wasn't just responsible for herself, she was responsible for her family and Gale's family, just like he was for hers.
Katniss Everdeen is not a normal girl, she is a teenager who had to grow up fast within District Twelve. After losing her father to a mine accident, Katniss had to become an adult and be the sole provider for her family. Her mother detached herself from her role as a parent, which meant Katniss not only had to become the provider but also the nurturer of the family. This gives her the role of being the mother and father to her sister
In the novel Katniss’ intelligence contributes to her qualities that make her a hero. This is conveyed through her ability to outsmart the other tributes during the course of the games. This is made evident to the reader when she says-“ I position the knife in the groove… the nets bursts open like an egg.”- The use of simile allows the reader to imagine how Katniss’ let the tracker-jacker go. This is further seen during the Games where Katniss is highly aware of her surroundings. - “The bow and arrow is my weapon… Sometimes, if I've wounded an animal with an arrow, it's better to get a knife into it, too, before I approach it.”- This is made evident when Katniss is able to track and hunt down things in a protective and secretive way. The use of an explicit metaphor is used when describing her motives which demonstrate her thought processes. Thus it can be seen that Katniss empowers the qualities of a hero through her intelligence.
Katniss reveals her character through her actions, such as making the selfless choice to volunteer in her sister’s place, building strategic alliances in the arena, and rebelling against the
She is willing to sacrifice herself in order to protect her family. She was thrown into the Hunger Games to fight for her life twice. She is just a teenage girl who is trying her very best to survive the Game. Throughout the movie, she had experienced multiple traumatic events that are forever stuck with her.
Suzanne Collins created such a strong, beautiful, independent, stubborn character with integrity called Katniss Everdeen. Katniss Everdeen shows her integrity, independence and stubbornness in her presentation and actions. Katniss Everdeen is the main character in The Hunger Games Katniss is basically placed in an arena and is forced to fight for life as entertainment for the capitol and in the end she survives the journey. But just, the fight is not over yet! Katniss Everdeen was such a productive person to bring such great things in her life, after her fathers passing she became the man of the house, hunting was a priority and having to trade was a knowledge to learn.
In the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the main character and protagonist is 16 year old Katniss Everdeen, a strong and selfless young woman who is far more mature than her age suggests. As the main provider for her family after her father died, Katniss had to become responsible and resourceful at a young age, which forced her to participate in rebellious behavior in order to keep her family alive. She is an unselfish and protective character, putting herself in danger in order to keep the ones she loves safe, especially for her little sister Primrose. Even after the pain and hardships she has had to go through not only in the games, but in her life, Katniss maintains her
To begin, Katniss Everdeen is a very complex character. She has a lot of walls to protect her from District 12’s hardships and most importantly, people. However, even though she grew in a very rough environment, where she was susceptible to starvation and the annual hunger game reaping, she was able to seek safety by escaping into the woods. It’s not until she enters the Capitol,
Katniss is an orphan poor girl lives in with her mom who is she suffering from Mental illness because of her husband dead ,so Katniss’s main preoccupation is to keep her family well-fed.
Katniss Everdeen, the main character is seen in an incessant state of anguish, worrying about her beloved younger sister Prim, without the slightest concern for her own welfare, an idiosyncrasy that robustly contradicts with the typical perfect and flawless main character portrayed in almost all action/adventure films. The controversial scene then ends with the fearless Katniss Everdeen taking her sister’s place and volunteering for her in the Hunger Games after she had been conscripted. There are even ceaseless ties made between District 12 and World War II concentration camps ranging from the rag like clothing to the groups of hopeless children with guns aimed at their face, further deliberating Katniss’s initial mother like and selfish instincts when preferring to worry about her sister in an environment that can be related to a significant historical atrocity. As a set-up for the rest of the film, this sequence plays an important role in constructing the underlying theme of the film as a whole. The fact that Katniss finds her own empathy, sense of caring and compassion and her journey of going from a un-trusting and instinctive girl to a strong moraled, selfless woman that would rather die than take an innocent human life. An
Katniss is described as having "straight black hair, olive skin, and grey eyes". Katniss normally wears her hair in a long braid down her back. She is thin and not very tall, but is strong for her size because of her hunting skills. Although Katniss isn’t that friendly, outgoing nor obedient, she is extremely brave and is willing to defend anyone innocent. She even blames herself when somebody gives up their life to save “the Mockingjay” even though it’s not her fault. “My name is Katniss Everdeen. Why am I not dead? I should be dead. It would be best for everyone if I were dead…” An example of an act of bravery lead by Katniss is when she went to district eight to shoot propos (videos of Katniss doing good things for other people and then aired to the Capitol which was called Airtime Assault) of her helping the people to recover from the Capitol‘s bombings when another wave of bombers entered.
Katniss Everdeen is an adolescent girl who has been through a lot, emotionally and physically. She is not only a girl from District 12 but she is a girl who takes on challenges that she is not
