In the novel The Hunger Games Katniss Everdeen has to dig deep down to find strength and courage. Katniss is not your average girl. She has a great shot with a bow and arrow, but also has a very audacious mind. Ever since Katniss’s father died in a mine explosion she has been the provider for her family, which consist of her mother and her younger sister Prim. Katniss has to be trained by Haymitch, who is a victor of the Hunger Games. The challenge with Haymitch is that he is always drunk and does not have his mind straight. One of the many challenges Katniss faced was volunteering for the Hunger Games. Katniss made her first act of bravery in the book when she volunteered for the Hunger Games. As the story carried on Katniss and Peeta then became acquaintances. During the Hunger Games the game makers announce that there can be two victors only if they are from the same district. Katniss then tries to find Peeta so they can care for each other when needed. While Katniss was caring for Peeta they developed feelings for each other. At the end of the games both Katniss and Peeta were going to eat poisonous berries so that they would not live without each other, but right as they were going to eat the berries the gamemakers announced they were the winners of the games. All of the spectators watching at home fell in love with their story. The people did not want their love to just be in the games. Peeta and Katniss then had to keep their love alive. It was very challenging for the two of them because Katniss was not sure whom she loved, Peeta or Gale, her friend back in District Twelve. The capitol wanted to carry on a great story so Peeta and Katniss had to show affection towards each other. At the end of the story Katniss ended up having feelings for
