At one of the opening ceremonies, Katniss wore an outfit that was on fire. This gained Katniss much love across the games, which helped her push through the games and persevere. Next, Katniss says, “I stand there, feeling broken and small, thousands of eyes trained on me. There’s a long pause. Then, from somewhere in the crowd, someone whistles Rue’s four-note mocking-jay tune. The one that meant safety in the arena.” Katniss feels so loved here, and although Rue died, it helped her move forwards and be determined during the hunger games. During the stay at the capitol before the games had began there interviews and practicing to build up your confidence and strength to be able to fight in the hunger games. Katniss is the protagonist of the novel. She is a tough, self-sufficient, extremely loyal girl whose childhood was cut short by responsibility. After her father died, her mother sank into a deep depression, so it was up to Katniss to feed the family. One evening, she was going through others' trash in desperation when Peeta Mellark purposefully burned bread from his family's bakery and gave it to her. She feels like she owes him for that action, because after that she realizes the forest will be how to feed her family. She and her friend Gale regularly hunt wild game and gather food, selling some and keeping some for their families. Katniss dearly loves her younger sister Prim, so much so that she volunteers to go to the Hunger Games in Prim's place. Though Katniss could very easily feel bitter towards her more sheltered sister, instead she is fiercely protective of her. During the Games, this protectiveness transfers to another young tribute named Rue who Katniss grows very close too and mentors as she were an older sister to Rue.

In “The Hunger Games,” by Suzanne Collins, Katniss Everdeen experiences all of this in result of volunteering as tribute in place of her sister. As many spinning and life-threatening events occur, the Hunger Games creates strong feelings of hope within the audience. As Katniss goes into the games already struggling for the survival of herself and family, many view her as weak and unprepared.
The repetition highlights the strong bond between Katniss and Prim and as a result, it is evident that Katniss is extremely selfless and is willing to give up her life for those she loves. Another moment when Katniss displays the heroic quality of bravery is when Katniss, again, was willing to risk her life. “No, you’re not risking your life for me.” are the words of Peeta when he demanded that Katniss did not go to the cornucopia to get the medicine needed to heal his knee. Through the use of emotive language, Katniss’ bravery is again recognised as she is willing to give her life, which further highlights her qualities as a hero.
Suzanne Collins created such a strong, beautiful, independent, stubborn character with integrity called Katniss Everdeen. Katniss Everdeen shows her integrity, independence and stubbornness in her presentation and actions. Katniss Everdeen is the main character in The Hunger Games Katniss is basically placed in an arena and is forced to fight for life as entertainment for the capitol and in the end she survives the journey. But just, the fight is not over yet! Katniss Everdeen was such a productive person to bring such great things in her life, after her fathers passing she became the man of the house, hunting was a priority and having to trade was a knowledge to learn.
In a dystopian society, there is always a leader of the pack. Suzanne Collins’ popular novel, The Hunger Games, is based on a 16-year-old teenager who is the ultimate friend and family member. In this novel, Katniss Everdeen volunteers as tribute to compete in The Hunger Games. Over the course of the novel, Katniss goes through challenges socially, physically, and mentally. Katniss’ loving, brave and caring personality proves that she is a great friend and family member.
Katniss Everdeen is a character who is constantly developing. In the beginning, she was the main provider for her family. In the middle of the the book she was a tribute to the Hunger Games and eventually won. Then in the end she was a greatly admired person who had the threat of President Snow killing her because she outsmarted the Capitol.
With a seemingly omnipresent government, this forces characters, especially Katniss, to modify her outward identity, which again causes difficulties distinguishing her artificial from her true identity. Yet, Katniss’ authentic identity presents itself when she mourns Rue’s death. As Rue passes away, Katniss sings a lullaby from her childhood to sooth Rue, and then meticulously places wildflowers on Rue’s body (Collins 237). Essentially suggesting that Katniss returns humanity back into Rue as Katniss gives her a proper funeral that is abnormal for the Games. Furthermore, this moment once again transcends from other prosaic actions that Katniss performs in the arena for the benefit of manipulating the audience to a lasting impression that ultimately ignites the rebellion.

Katniss’s is a very strong, independent and loving character in the ‘The Hunger Games’ this is because she pulls her family through the rough time after her father’s death. Her mother is mentally unstable and can’t do anything so Katniss realises she must stay strong in order to keep her family alive. She uses her incredible archery skills to kill animals and gives the dead animals to the butcher in order to earn cash so she can feed her family. She loves her family so much that when Prim got selected she said “I volunteer as tribute.” and took her sister’s spot. She knew going into the games that she would have a 23/24 chance of dying
