Kedziepalooza was an exciting and interesting experience for me to attend. I very much enjoyed eating the Chipotle—because I’m a college kid and it was free Mexican food. I had a great time dunking an absolute stranger in the dunk tank as well. What surprised me the most was the vast and diverse opportunities that were offered and represented at the event. I gained great interest in the Advertising Club booth and The Collegian. All organizations sparked an interest in me, and promoted stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things. The Advertising Club caught my attention when they spoke of assisting me in improving my resume and providing portfolio critics. All of those things would give me an advantage when applying for jobs out
The event that I attended for the Civic Engagement Project was the Kansas State Fair and Same Hunt Concert. The Kansas State Fair took place from September 11, 2015 at 8:00 AM to September 20, 2015 as 5:00 PM in Hutchinson, Kansas. I attended both the Kansas State Fair and a concert for Same Hunt on September 13, 2015 at 7:30 PM in Hutchinson, Kansas. The purpose of the concert was entertainment and the purpose of the Kansas State Fair was to showcase agriculture, industry, and culture in Kansas. It is a great way for different diversities to share in common interests while also learning about Kansas cultures from all around the state.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a very big deal, I was showing a steer and pig there, along with my brother. On the pig side of the barn, we travel to all of the shows and work as a team with a large group. My family and I had only been with this group for a year, so I wasn’t expecting anything completely amazing to even happen. Show day arrived, and my brother and I happened to be in the same class.
The most meaningful club/activity that I have participated in during high school has definitely been DECA; which is an international
On March 30th, 2017 I attended a wonderful jazz concert at Prince George’s Community College. The concert was performed by a group titled The Reginald Cyntje Group. The Reginald Cyntje Group was comprised of five talented musicians: Herman Burney, Reginald Cyntje, Lenny Robinson, Brian Settles, and Hope Udobi. The group performed a song cycle of seven songs: “The Rise of the Protester,” “Ballad for the Masses,” “Chant of the Revolt,” “Descension and Ascension,” “No Justice No Peace,” “The Piece of Resistance,” and “Blues People vs the Deplorables.” The piece titled “The Piece of Resistance,” my favorite song from the recital, and will be the focus of my concert report.
They were enjoyable events that were fun for the girls who went as well as the women who ended up there, whether it was to get their nails done or just to hangout and chat.
On October 9, 2015 I went to the Smithsonian, National Museum of African Art along with attending the Million Man March down in Washington D.C. The experiences were wonderful and I was very excited to be at both events. While at the museum I took two tours one at 10 am that was led by a woman named Nkechi Obi. She talked about docent African Arts. The next one was shortly after at11 am that was led by a teen ambassador named Nicholas Stewart, who was very intelligent. He talked about numerous pieces throughout the museum that had some significance to younger minds so I found that very helpful. After the tour I spent some time down at the mall in DC in which faced the Capitol. This was the Million Man March that was a very popular event that brought out many people. I would describe both events as lectures that were powerful and time put to good use.
The event was definitely needed on campus especially during Black History Month being. The students that attended enjoyed the performance and the
In a world of political discourse with racism and hate running rampant, a few great men and women came together to bring unity and harmony like never before: in the form of massive music festivals. In the late 1972, the black community came together for a concert known as Watts Summer Festival. In 1969, the largest music festival of its time was held, and was known as Woodstock. Later that year, the Rolling Stones put together a massive free concert in San Francisco known as the Altamont Concert. All of the concerts and music festivals were not aimed at making money or becoming famous, but about the unity of people through the art of music.
I have been a part of JROTC for the past four years of my high school career. During my time in the program, I gained more self-confidence and was able to venture out of my comfort zone, which allowed me to join numerous clubs and organizations throughout my high school career. The clubs include the Chess Club for one year, the Environmental Club and AFJROTC Honor Guard team for two years, and Science Olympiad all my four years of high school. The organizations include the National Technical Honor Society for two years and National Honor Society for two years as well and voted Vice President.
The Big Event is where students do not sit, and they do not sleep, and they do not drink caffeine, all in support of these children going through these tough times. My senior year of high school, when I decided to come to the University of Iowa, Dance Marathon raised over $2 million all for the kids. I knew I wanted to be a part of
However, I chose this specific event because I show up every year and really enjoy coming to watch. Not only is it thrilling, but it also keeps me from staying home. I will continue to attend to this event in the future because every year it is different. I surely do not plan on missing any of it. The sensation of the Kennett Delta Fair Parade is something I look forward to every year.
The event I chose to attend was the Natchez 29th Annual Powwow. I was unaware of how much history that was in the city of Natchez. This was a pretty fun experience for my husband and me. The Powwow takes place every year in March in the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians. I had never attended a Powwow before, but had always heard how interesting it is. The Native Americans use Powwows to meet together in dancing, singing, visiting with old friends and meeting new friends. Powwows honor and keep alive the Native American traditions and cultures. Through this experience, I was able to see how important spirituality is to the Native American cultures.
Friday Night Live at the Royal Ontario Museum began in 2012. This unique and contemporary event provides patrons with live entertainment, food and drink as they revel in the wonders the museum has to offer. Carrie Martin’s aim is to attract at least 3,500 visitors for the grand opening and maximize profits.
experience for me. It was far different from a rock concert held in some big
I usually spend my Friday nights in my dorm room catching up on some homework. This weekend I decided to take a day off to go and enjoy a great weekend. I was invited to the Black and Gold Masquerade Ball that was held in the Trent Lott Center. It was a very nice environment. The place was dark with some nice lights that were all in the top of the ceiling and around the edges of the walls. There was a table with a gorgeous center piece on it that had a lot of different colors, and different kinds of feathers surrounding it. As I continued to look around, I saw how nice the tables were set up and how beautiful the decoration were put into place as well. My favorite section of the entire dance was the food section, the fruits were designed into different shapes, and the drinks were place in these very nice see thru bowls. It was a very nice scenery and the atmosphere was great!
