keeping animals in captivity can have many effects upon the animals, some negative and some positive. An example of the negative impact is the orca whales that are kept in Sea World. Many of the orcas in captivity have collapsed dorsal fins, this is a result of many of the whales being either sick or injured. In zoos many animals develop a condition known as 'zoo chosis' which is similar to dementia, as a result of this many animals show distress when they are in their enclosures and often swim or pace in circles. Many animals in captivation often become anxious or aggressive due to being continually watched by the public and having no space to hide, animals often react this way because to them being watched all the time can be predatory and
Do you think it is good to keep animals in captivity? I do, here’s why. Here is my opinion on this topic which will be explained farther into the essay. We should keep animals in captivity because the zoo is a great way for urban citizens to see wildlife on a tight budget, a great way of income for some city run zoos, and a great way of entertainment.
Most wild animals that are unable to survive in the wild are kept in zoos and animal rescues. However, when wild animals are kept in captivity for too long it can lead to some odd behaviors and health issues. Some of the issues animals can develop in captivity are over grooming, pacing back and forth, and zoochosis. These can cause animals to develop odd behaviors that can lead to dangerous health issues and sometimes even death.
I . Animal captivity is common in many zoos and aquariums worldwide. It has been going on for more than 50 years and many people enjoy watching it but it needs to end right away. Animals captivity is when they take a healthy animal from the wild and put them in bad conditions that tend to make them die faster. There has been a lot of deaths of animals and people from animals in captivity because they got taken away from their homes, and they aren’t used to being touched or screamed at to do something which they don't do it the wild. Cruelty towards animals in captivity can be reduced if animals could no longer be in captivity.
Millions of people visit the zoo to see the animals and they believe that the zoos are inhumane and that the animals should not be kept in captivity. I am both ways, I think they should be kept in captivity but then again I feel bad and they should be.
Some animals are more vulnerable than other species to extinction. This is due to a variety of reasons some are; if certain species are only found in a specific area or location this increases their risk to become extinct, animals who depend on certain habitats or diet requirements become more exposed to the prospect of becoming extinct will not be able to adapt to alterations made from human or natural effects to their food source. Furthermore if species have long life expectancies but low reproductive rates then this impacts the species potential to become extinct. Slow moving or flightless birds are also more vulnerable to hunting and poaching due to lack of defence. Animals that have significant value to individuals, communities or countries are often more likely to become extinct due to a perspective that economic value and monetary success is more important than a species of animals. However some people hold a different view altogether that species should be held in captivity to help animals reproduce and sustain the decreasing population; this too though has negative impacts upon some species.
The world stripped of human intervention was created by God to be a magnificent place, which glorified God. We, as beings made in the image of God, were given dominion over the earth. However, where does our rule become unjust? Where do we overstep our boundaries? Throughout history, humans have strived to gain ultimate control of a planet they did not create. Some aspects in nature should be left to its own devices to be beautiful and glorify God, their intended purpose of creation. Humans have no right to captivate orcas because we cannot provide for their needs and we force them into a world they did not want. We force orcas into tanks not nearly large enough, we force them to mix with orcas not from their social pods, and we force them to perform for our entertainment.
Animal activists documentaries and incidents have recently brought up the question of weather or not animals should be held in captivity for human entertainment or conservation. A series of recent events has the general pubic asking them selves if animals should be allowed to be in captivity. On February 24, 2010 Tilikum, a 12,000 pound killer whale held at Sea World Orlando, dragged trainer Dawn Brancheau to the bottom of the tank during their daily show performance Dine with Shamu, killing her. This was not the first time Tilikum had killed one of his trainer, in 1991 and 1999 he was involved in similar incidents that unfortunately claimed the lives of
Animals raised in captivity are the most unfortunate of all. They go through grave conditions with no chance of survival. Over 3000 animals die per second due to slaughter. Over 56 billion die because of slaughter per year (www.animalequality.net/food). The consternation behind the walls of slaughterhouses will leave you dumbfounded. The way animals are treated is atrocious. Animals raised in captivity are treated bestially from the time their born to the time they die.
Is it a good idea to put animals in captivity? This is a very controversial subject. You can find many people on both sides I chose to talk about the positive side about putting animals in captivity. Animals should be able to live in zoos because they live longer, they live in a better environment and they get feed better.
Should animals live in their natural environment, or should they live in man made environment? Some people believe animals should live in captivity, but animals that live in the wild get to live more naturally. They should live in the wild instead of living in captivity, so they are not tampered with by humans as much. It would keep the environment the way it should be. If you take predators out of an environment, the environment will be over run with other animals because the other animals population will not be controlled. Animals should live in the wild and not in captivity. Animals should live in the wild including endangered animals, instead of captivity.
Animals in captivity no longer have control over their environment. The animals normal behavior that is intended to enhance their survival prospects and welfare is taken from them. These captive animals are prevented from doing things they naturally do like foraging, roaming, running, climbing, flying, and being with their kind. Now they must rely on humans to provide them with their needs. Animals in captivity become depressed and disheartened, lots of them develop abnormal behavior for example, swaying, pacing and head bobbing.
Wild animals have been used as a form of entertainment for humans throughout history, from being forced to fight in arenas in Ancient Rome to those currently being kept in places like zoos where they perform and are showcased. While animals like cats and dogs have been domesticated over thousands of years, chosen for the physical and psychological traits that make them ideal as companions, wild animals have needs that are much more difficult to meet. People often don’t realize or don’t care that these creatures have a number of requirements when it comes to living a healthy and natural life. Efforts have been made to ensure the fair treatment of these creatures in captivity, such as the Animal Welfare Act, a federal law regulating the treatment of animals in exhibition. While it is impossible to duplicate the wild environment in captivity, there are still many improvements that can be made to ensure captive animals are living as good of a life as they can under the circumstances. The Zoological Association of America created a document called the Animal Care and Enclosure Standards
Should animal be in captivity? I think not. Animals need to be able to hunt for their own food. Let’s say that a whale was fed in captivity for a long time. Then somehow, the animal had to be let free into the wild. The whale may not survive because it doesn’t know the proper way to find and hunt food. Another reason is because the whales don’t really have a choice and it can probably get boring in captivity. Some whales can also go crazy from being in captivity for a long time. In fact, in 2010, a SeaWorld trainer, Dawn Brancheau, was dragged underwater by a whale named Tilikum. Tilikum has also been involved in 2 earlier deaths. Sea World said that the death was an accident. Therefore, it could have been because of the captivity.
Man-made environments or animals are not right and unsuitable for their living. These animals are subjected to an unnatural environment. This causes confusion which then leads to hostility potentially sending an animal to its death when they try to rebel. Then they are mistreated for scientific purposes or beaten to fulfill a purpose. All these horrific things can happen to an animal that is forcibly taken from its home and sent into man-made environments.
In conclusion, animals shouldn't be in captivity. Although zoos can provide benefits for animals such as nutrition and medical services.Animals don't need this benefits because they were born without them. Animals have their own ways to survive. We shouldn't have to put an animal in captivity in order to make research. Scientists can make them in the wild where they can obtain better results. Animals were born free and they should live in freedom. Mother nature has given them instincts to survive in the wild. Humans should not interfere with
