An outlier is somebody that is distant from the rest. A person that you may classify as unique from those who may be standard or parallel to everyone else. You may not see it however, surrounding us we are permeated with outliers. Kendall Jenner is an outlier of our time because she had work ethic, family, and opportunity.
To be successful you need work ethic. You have to get things accomplished and become the person you want to be, all through hard work and effort. She grew up knowing she could do whatever because her family was already doing the impossible. It all started when Kris, her mom called tv producers and paid money to start a reality show. The producers thought it would be a hit tv show with the drama that the sisters brought to the table. Thats where it all began, no the Kardashian family didn’t do anything life changing to be sitting where they are but Kris took the opportunity to call producing agencies. Kendall Jenner being where she is today wouldn't be there if Kris didn't make that one phone call. Leading after that the Kardashians became famous, earned money, and moved to Los Angeles. The clan then got offers from all over the country to be the face of clothing, perfume lines etc. Soon Kourtney Kim and Khloe had their very own store, called DASH. From there on Kendall and Kylie the youngest sisters were spoiled. They always got what they wanted, so becoming a model for Kendall couldn't be that hard, right? Again kendall had the opportunity to ask her family to help her become who she is today, which makes her an outlier because not everyone is given the chance to do what Kendall Jenner could
Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers defines an outlier as “a statistical observation that is markedly different in value from the others of the sample.” According to this definition, an outlier in society is one who achieves something highly unusual when compared to their peers. According to the theory Outliers presents, success is based not only on one’s individual merit, but on the accumulative advantages they gain throughout their lives. Seemingly arbitrary circumstances such as the time and place of one’s birth can affect the entire course of their life. Society’s outliers are produced from an extremely unusual set of circumstances that allows them to diverge from the paths of those around them. One such example of an outlier comes from F. Scott
One of the most recognized names in the home of many food lovers and chefs is Julia Child. She has overcome several obstacles and challenges on the way up. She started in a time when women weren’t allowed to work and were expected to stay home and “play house.” Julia didn’t grow up wanting to be the chef, author, or TV personality she is known for today. One woman changed the way that Americans look at food and even the way that we prepare our meals at home. She didn’t have the preconceived idea of being a famous person making money. She accomplished what she has done by simply following the things she became passionate about. If she can go from nothing to something by simply chasing what she loves, why can’t we?
The childhood of any individual is vital to preparing a person for their future. Taylor wasn’t born into a rich and famous family, she had to learn that one must work hard for what they have. It was that same drive she learned at a young age that lead to her incredible achievements later in life. Taylor
Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to the unwed Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey at a time when illegitimate children were highly frowned upon. Soon after Oprah’s birth, her parents separated; her father, who was in the military, moved to Nashville and remarried; while her mother moved north in search of employment and a fresh start, leaving Oprah to be raised by her grandparents. From an early age Oprah exhibited elevated intelligence, her grandmother, Hattie Mae Lee, encouraged her curious mind teaching her how to read at an early age and pruning her developing speaking skill which she put to practice in church by reciting bible verses and sermons. When she started school, she was allowed to skip ahead to first grade and then third grade because she already knew how to read and write. Then at the age of six, her grandmother became ill and Oprah was sent to live with her mother
In the Outliers Malcolm Gladwell makes an imperative point about outliers, they don’t start out as an outlier. They start out only a litter better than their peers, and then patterns of advantage elevate and qualify them to attain outlier status. For example like Bill Gates one of the richest men in world, who built the worlds largest software business, Microsoft and one of
dedication and diligence she took in being a good student from elementary through high school.
An outlier is a person or thing situated away or detached from the main body or system. In other words, an outlier is somebody who goes out of his or her way and does something extraordinary in order to accomplish their goal. Martin Luther King Jr. is a true example of an outlier. In the early 1900s, segregation was strongly recognized in the United States, until Martin Luther King Jr. stood up for what he believed in and made a change. Although he made a difference to the United States, he was assassinated in the making of this process. This assassination is an example to why Martin Luther King Jr. is considered to be an outlier. The novel Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell is a detailed explanation
Malcolm Gladwell defines an outlier as an individual who has accomplished so much in extraordinary circumstances compared to people with normal circumstance. Outliers are individuals that succeed in life despite the odds that are placed against them. However, Gladwell states in his nonfiction book Outliers: The Story of Success that the success of an outlier “is not exceptional or mysterious. It is grounded in a web of advantages and inheritances, some deserved, some not, some earned, some just plain lucky- but all critical to making them who they are. The outlier in the end is not an outlier at all,” (299).
Rhetorical Analysis An outlier: a person or thing differing from all members of a group or set. Quite the defining name for Malcolm Gladwell's book the Outliers. Gladwell argues against our daily belief of a successors successes. Throughout his examples in the book, Gladwell starts off by retelling the assumed story behind a person success.
Mary-Kate Olsen was born on June 13, 1986, in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, California. She has a twin sister Ashley Olsen. They both started off their famous acting career at a very young age. They were nine months old when they started their acting debut on the ABC family sitcom, Full house. They shared the role as Michelle Tanner. Child labor was a big deal so them being twins led the sitcom to air longer because the girls could share the amount of hours and work longer. This show went on for eight years and during this time, their career took off. However, during the first two years the show was being aired, it did not even make the top thirty list of most watched television shows. Fortunately, the following year, it made the top fourteen. In the 1991-1992 the season peaked at number seven. At the age of five, a producer, Robert Thorne, realized how little the girls were being paid and asked the parents if he could represent them. The girls were getting paid minimum wage which amounted to be $4,000 per episode. After Robert started to represent them
The introduction of Malcolm Gladwell’s book, Outliers, is used to introduce the idea of an outlier. As he stated, “[an outlier is] a place that lay outside everyday experience, where normal rules did not apply. Roseto was an outlier”. People and events that are outliers are essentially the same; they lay outside everyday people or events, where normal rules don’t apply. He describes the case of a town called Roseto in Pennsylvania, an outlier in the health world. A physician named Stewart Wolf was amazed by this town, finding that “virtually no one under fifty-five had died of a heart attack or showed any signs of heart disease. For men over sixty-five, the death rate from heart disease in Roseto was roughly half that of the United States
Outlier is defined as “something that is situated away from or classified differently from a main or related body” or “a statistical observation that is markedly different in value from the others of the sample”, which is the beginning to Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers: The Story of Success. The meaning of outlier itself in relation to success symbolizes those who stand out with exceptional rates of success. The book does not necessarily cover how to become an outlier (in fact it first deams becoming an outlier is nearly impossible) but more which are the factors that have contributed to certain outliers in history on a broad spectrum of hockey players to the beatles to even the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates.
