This will result in more admissions, more grants, more funds, and top notch faculty joining them. KSU`s international presence is laudable as they have students joining from 130 countries. Equipping students with ways to apply what they have learned in “the real world” results in enhancing the community, which will impart goodwill to the University. This requires institutions in the University System of Georgia (USG) and the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) to increase the number of citizens in the state who possess college credentials. KSU can extend this effort by State by offering all support to achieve this goal. As part of that they can get more state level grants and accolades for proactive efforts to support state to achieve this goal.
KSU is developing and enhancing existing programs that target these different groups of students and hence new avenues can be pursued in learning communities. They can give greater focus on specific populations of students, like adult learners, dual enrollment students, and military learners. One of the main focuses of the initiative is to have 5 million more community college graduates by 2020. Achieving the AGI goal will mean that community colleges must increase graduation levels by nearly 250,000 students per year, for a total of 1.75 million students graduating each year until 2020 (Kotamraju & Blackman 2011). The only way to achieve this initiative is to ensure that students are engaged and persist until graduation. Community colleges have been known for quality teaching (Boyer, 1988, as cited in Boggs, 2011). They do not have the hierarchy structure like larger universities so they have more flexibility with programs and can more readily adjust to student needs (Boggs, 2011). Community colleges have also supported what Boggs (2011) calls the open door; Students of all backgrounds have been welcome in community colleges. This open door of acceptance has also made community colleges a highly diverse population with needs that differ from 4-year institutions.
This means that the programs help students, by following the three most important factors of technical application, motivational instruction, and academics. Programs that include academical studies is a pathway that guides students into having a distinct outline when they apply for college, etc. In consideration, having programs boosts up the students confidence level into what they want to apply for. In “College Bound and Career Ready”, it states, “ Students who complete the two year program will graduate with college credit and certification in one of two programs:”(College Bound). This means that students who join the two year program, will graduate by having college credits and certification. It seems that this day and age, college is becoming a very crucial part of today's society. Without college it is very difficult to get a job in a field that you want to be in, but at the same time it is difficult for people without a degree to maintain their job. This is why it is very important for a person to complete college. Hutchinson Community College, like many other colleges, is working to prepare their students for life after they have graduated. Unfortunately, after analyzing the collected financial information, my childhood dreams of attending Kansas State University is not feasible. In other words, the escalating costs of a four-year university has altered my education blueprints. Once taking a more in-depth look at the finances required for my future endeavors, I discovered tuition and fees alone at Kansas State University for one year would amount to $10,135 (“Kansas State Tuition and Fees”). Nevertheless, I confidently made the conclusion to attend Garden City Community College at a lower cost. Four out of 10 graduating high school students start their college careers at community colleges, according to the College Board (Kulla np). When examining the advantages and disadvantages of attending a community college directly after graduating from high school it was easy for me to say attending a community college is the most appropriate for not only my financial standpoint but also my character. Furthermore, with the total costs of Garden City Community College for two complete years being equivalent to less than that of tuition and fees at Kansas State University for one year, it was judicious for myself to make the decision that I did. At the outset of my undergraduate term at Mercer University, I was confronted with financial hardships. As a present divorcee and recently single parent my monthly income diminished accordingly. Committed to work while setting off for college full time, this adversely impacted my academic performance and I didn't do well in some of my classes.
