Two different lives (Kim Jong Un vs. Ban Ki-Moon)
Thesis/core idea: Kim Jong Un and Ban Ki-Moon have different influence in Global Security and Human Rights.
I choose to compare these two individual characters because they are from similar regions (North Korea and South Korea) but they have different influences and impacts in the globalization in global security and human rights.
Description of two different lives:
Kim Jong Un: is the third and youngest son of Kim Jong-il. He is the supreme leader of North Korea and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. He has limited experience in military and political because he was in Europe during North Korea's famine of the 1990s. He has several positions in the North Korea such as chairman of

Clear description of how their lives are different:
Kim Jong Un:
Global security: Under his leadership, North Korea adopts a new strategic line on develop its army technology to have nuclear weapon and hydrogen bomb. Experts believe by 2020, North Korea will have over a hundred nuclear and biological weapons if left unchecked. Under Kim Jong-un, North Korea breaks, and ignores international laws. On March 7, 2013, North Korea threatened the US with a nuclear attack. Therefore, North Korea under Kim Jong Un will keep threaten several countries and threaten the global security.
Human Rights: The UN General Assembly reports that human rights in north korea are violated during his leadership. Since his regime focuses on development of nuclear weapon, the North Korean citizen left with poor of basic need of life. North Korea is suffering and some of them try to escape to South Korea. This Human Rights violations may leads to human trafficking against North Korean people in South Korea or any place in the world.

Present day ruler, Kim Jong Un is known for his cruel ways of ruling and his nuclear power. North Korea has no religion, as it is discouraged. Because there is no religion, most citizens get into fights about their ideas of religion. Other people are too afraid to talk about their religion and even pass it on to their children because of what Kim Jong Un might do. Kim is known for executing people to get his way. Since he came to power, he has ordered at least three hundred and forty people to death. One hundred and forty of these people were apart of his government. Due to the executions, his people fear him. On a different topic, North Korea is the 119th largest trading economy in the world, exporting 2.83 billion dollars and importing 3.47 billion dollars. North Korea's largest trading partner is China, gaining food and energy. Other trading partners include, Pakistan, Asia, Russia, etc. China was also the one who gave North Korea nuclear weapons. North Korea was short on nuclear weapons and Kim decided it was time to advance the weaponry. As of 2014, the North Korean Army has 950,000
DPRK was liberated from Japanese colonial rule by the Soviet Union at the end of World War II. When Kim IL Sung, born April 15, 1912, returned to North Korea from the Soviet Union where he and his guerrillas had been based from 1941-45, the Soviet occupation forces in the northern part of the country presented him to the North Korean people as a hero. In mid-1993, Kim IL Sung was general secretary of North Korea's ruling party and president of the state. North Korea is a classic example of the "rule of man." Which basically means controlling everyone under one rule. Overall, political management is highly personalized and is based on loyalty to Kim IL Sung and the Korean Workers' Party. The cult of personality and the strong influence of former anti-Japanese partisan veterans and military leaders are unique features of North Korean
A threat that a few may underestimate in a way. Because of their advance in nuclear capability and missile systems North Korea in the next ten years could possibly be the biggest threat to the United States and surrounding countries. Because they are so isolated and living in increased famine and poverty like a wild animal backed into a corner, North Korea one day could feel like they have nothing left to lose and feel as if they need to resort to other means such as a major conflict in order to preserve their lifestyle and way of life. If a major conflict was to break out with North Korea then we have to consider all other possible countries involved, such as Russia and China who could side with North Korea and fight against the United
According to the Washington Times article, Gause, K. E. (2016), Kim Jong-un has been taking on a more people-friendly approach that greatly differs from his father. Jong-un has no difficulty in talking during speeches and maintains a steady state of progression for North Korea. He has been proving that he fully understands his responsibilities as the new Supreme Leader of North Korea. Despite his ease into assimilation of the position of Supreme Leader, he is lacking one thing. He does not have the undying loyalty of his people. He has to grow on the people of North Korea before he really becomes one with the people of his country. While earning the people's trust, Kim Jong-un must be wary of turning into a tyrant and losing his chance at gaining
Kim Jong UnAlthough Kim Jong Un has no confirmed birthdate, it is known he is the third and youngest son of Korean military leader Kim Jong-Il, who had ruled since 1994. His father saw a lot of himself in his son, leading to Jong Il passing his leadership on to him once he died. He passed away in 2011 and that’s when Jung Un came to power. Under his power, North Korea started weapon testing programs. In February 2012, he started testing nuclear testing on long range missile launching, going along with his weapon testing. In April, 2012 North Korea launched a satellite that failed not too long after taking off, but in December of the same year, the government launched a long-range rocket that put the satellite in order. February of the next
The inadequate leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, is a merciless dictator who takes away his country's rights. Living conditions for the trapped people in North Korea are poverty-stricken and unfair. The natives to the country are being deceived of the image of what life is like, especially outside the borders of North Korea. This is the reason the United States. must take charge with the dispute in North Korea.
North Korea, also known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has the fourth largest Army in the world. They have an estimated 1.2 million troops with a population of over 24 million people in 2011. Their leader is the most powerful dictator in the world, Kim Jong Un. Kim Jong Un took power back in December 2011 after his father suffered a heart attack and died. Nevertheless, Kim Jong Il’s legacy has
North Korea is a dangerous place to live, where you aren't allowed to leave. In North Korea the citizens are living in malnourishment, poverty and living under a totalitarian dictatorship lead by Kim Jung Un. I am very interested about North Korea Because we don't know a lot about North Korea. North Korea does not release hardly any information about themselves to other nations, which i think makes them an interesting topic to research. I already knew a little bit about North Korea because of news coverage but I didn't know everything that I learned after researching them more in depth. I knew that North Korea had some of the worth human
Meanwhile, North Korea, long the subject of the domino theory, is now trying to maintain its cult of personality even as its regime transitions to a third generation, one that is widely regarded to be the weakest of the regime. Kim Jong-Un remains something of an international enigma, with little known about his life, but it is widely agreed that he has “…caused a perilous international crisis by testing a nuclear weapon and threatening to use it against America and South Korea. He even distributed a strange photograph of himself supposedly in the act of ordering “merciless” nuclear strikes against the US mainland.” In some ways, Kim Jong-Un is a leader from the same mold as Trump, in that he is trying to use strong words and theatrical approaches to maintain power; the divisions he foments within the North Korean regime seem at least somewhat analogous to the divisions sown by hardline nationalist conservatives in the United States. Although the international community hoped that Kim Jong-Un’s rise to power would hearken toward a more modernized North Korea, he has instead pursued a stridently nationalist regime that sees all other nations, and especially the United States, as a direct threat to its existence.
I selected this article because it describes how North Korea held a Worker’s Party Congress in which its leader Kim Jong Un was crowned Chairman of the Worker’s Party. He is the leader of the world’s only communist dynasty. Several foreign journalists were permitted to observe and report on this event. I thought Napoleon shared similarities with Kim Jong Un.
Kim Jong-un[4] (Korean pronunciation: [ɡ̊imd͜zɔŋɯn]; born 8 January 1983;[2] also romanized as Kim Jong-eun, Kim Jong Un or Kim Jung-eun)[5] is the supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). He is the son of Kim Jong-il (1941–2011) and the grandson of Kim Il-sung (1912–1994). He has held the titles of the First Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, the Chairman of the Central Military Commission, Chairman of the National Defence Commission, the Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, and presidium member of the Politburo of the Workers' Party of Korea. He was officially declared the supreme leader following the state funeral of his father on 28 December 2011.[6] He is the third and youngest son of
In the wake of the inquiry into North Korea’s Human Rights Abuses published in February 2014 by the United Nations Human Rights Council, there has been a large global focus on the abuses of human rights by the rogue state. The inquiry, which compares the North Korean regime to that of Nazi Germany (Kirby, Darusman, and Biserko, 2014), has generated widespread global discussion about the conditions within the totalitarian state, and for the international community it is difficult to dismiss the considerable injustices that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRKs) citizens are suffering under the current North Korean regime.
A lot of Kim Jong-Un’s background is unknown. Even his birthday isn’t known for certain. Although North Korean authorities say he was born on 8 January 1983, South Korean intelligence officials claim that he was born the year after. Some information has been given by Kim’s previous peers and Kim Jong-Il’s (Kim Jong-Un’s father) personal chef Kenji Fujimoto. There was proof found in 2012 that Kim Jong-Un lived in Switzerland as early as 1992 or 1993. It is likely that in 1998-2000, Jong-Un went to a school in Koniz near Bern, Switzerland called Liebefeld Steinholzli. He used the name Pak-un or Un-pak. He was described by his classmates as shy and awkward. He was ambitious and was very interested in basketball. He didn’t actually show much interest in politics and his grades and attendance were quite bad. Fujimoto says that Kim started driving at age 7 and drinking and smoking at age 14. From 2002-2007, Kim went to an officer-training school in Pyongyang named after his grandfather, Kim Il-sung University. The Kim Il-sung University is the main and first University in North Korea. Kim Jong-Un had always been favoured over his half brother, Kim Jong-Chul, according to Fujimoto who also believed Kim Jong-Un was more fit to be first chairman. This was because Kim Jong-Chul was too feminine while Kim Jong-Un is “exactly like his father”. Even so, Kim Jong-Chul was supposed to be
“Jeon Wook-pyo, now 68, was among 25 crewmen aboard two fishing boats captured by North Korea in the Yellow Sea in 1972. He escaped North Korea in August 2013 and returned to South Korea September the same year” (BBC13). In the current status with North Korea some people do not know why there is conflict between North Korea and the rest of the world, or as to what they did to enrage the world. The big problem with North Korea is that, in accords with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, they have violated many of the basic rights of the individual. Some of these violations are directly in conflict with South Korea and threatening to the surrounding countries. Which may lead to war between two or more of the
Kim Jong-un and Dennis Rodman’s friendship is an unusual relationship that the ordinary American doesn’t understand. Kim Jong-un, Supreme Leader of North Korea and Dennis Rodman, former National Basketball Association, NBA, player, on the surface, don’t seem to have any reason to be friends. The United States has had a negative opinion of communist North Korea ever since the Korean War. Even though the Korean War technically ended in a ceasefire, troubles between North and South Korea, one of the U.S.’ allies, never stopped (Tharoor). Because of these tensions with North Korea, most U.S. citizens have grown up hearing North Korea and communism are bad. However, this didn’t seem to influence Dennis Rodman. Even after receiving backlash for his friendship with Kim Jong-un, Rodman has still tried to bridge the gap in his own unique way between the two countries. His unconventional efforts have not worked, showing that the relationship between Kim Jong-un, and Dennis Rodman, is nothing more than a friendship between two colorful people.
