I am a graduating (December) kinesiology major at the University of Maryland. Though my major may seem completely unrelated to politics and legislation, the kinesiology curriculum is set up to engage each student in multiple social and political discussions. This, along with my interest in politics and legislation as led me to the path of becoming an Administrative support/Secretary for the Department of Legislative Services. Over the past 3 years, I have become very interested and passionate about topics pertaining to politics and legislation. I want to one day make a difference in my community through these means. I see this as the first steps toward accomplishing the goals that I have set forth for myself. I cannot sit idle and turn a blind
All during my middle to late teenage years I was involved in the politics of our city. My hometown was small, so there were many opportunities for youth to participate in events. From attending city council meetings that were held twice a month, I learned how I could actually become involved in the legislation process. By getting involved, I, along with some other members of the town, were able to pass a local ordinance, and I was also involved in the process of passing Utah Senate Bill 60, which became a law in March of 2015. Getting involved in the law making process taught me not just about the actual process of passing a law, but also about how normal citizens can and should take part of the legislative process. It also contributed to my desire to continue working with government and the
Every job I have ever desired has had one common theme: I have always sought to help people. The first job I ever worked towards was that of an entomologist; I wanted to help people cope with the destructive power of insects. As I progressed through my life, I explored a variety of careers, but I never once deviated from the path of seeking to serve those less fortunate than myself. At the same time I realized that I needed to help people to feel fulfilled, I was inspired by the words and actions of politicians I admire. I grew to be fascinated by politics and the US Government. As a result of my fascination with policy, I began to attend demonstrations, including the 2017 Women’s March in Saint Paul, Minnesota. My presence there gave me the
Academically, I want to make the most of the incredible opportunity of receiving a higher education; however, I also hope to grow and develop as an individual. I will be also be joining the men's soccer team at Wofford College, which will present additional challenges as well as opportunities. College will undoubtedly present a plethora of new experiences and open a number of new doors and opportunities. I want to soak it all in and make the most of every minute. My ultimate dream is to work in a career that I feel passionate about. Ensuring that I feel strongly about my work is very important to me and I believe it is pivotal to maximizing my potential contribution to society. My greatest interest and passion currently lies in learning and better understanding politics, economics, sociology, and other social sciences. A career in public service is where I believe I can thrive and flourish. Whether it be in education, economics, healthcare, or any other outlet, I have no doubt public service is where I belong. Throughout my life, I have constantly looked to fulfill positions of leadership and I plan on continuing to do so in my professional life. As my generation becomes the leaders of America's future, I hope to be a leading figure that can assist in moving us in a promising
During 8th grade at Howard D. McMillan Middle, I believed one person could make a difference if they just set their mind to do so. Our school had many restrictions and few student activities. Early that year I became interested in Student Government (S.G.) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), so I decided to run for President of both clubs hoping to make a change.
My most enduring passion is the care of foster children. This interest sprouted several years ago when my aunt and uncle first became foster parents. Since then, as I have loved and tended to the children in their care, it has grown into a full-fledged desire to base my career on ameliorating these children’s lives. I aspire to pursue a career in law so that I may one day fight for their prosperity and facilitate their adoptions into loving homes. Studying Political Science would allow me to achieve these goals by preparing me for law school. Along with the ability to lead me towards my desired career path, this major encompasses a plethora of captivating subjects: government, problem solving, critical thinking, writing, philosophy and ethics,
I believe acquiring a PhD from the Hunter College Silberman School of Social work will enable me to strengthen these fields, regardless of me becoming a social worker or a politician. The correlation of my professional and community experience demonstrates to me how imperative the social work is needed within our society. Social work can be utilized to treat communal issues or generate enough support for effective policies. Social work protects, heals, and creates solutions within communities. In correspondence, social work and its different utilizations intrigues me into pursuing my career in government. Social work itself is a dynamic field containing many virtues for professional and social development. Most importantly, I believe that I have the integrity, perseverance, professional experience, and dedication to be a great asset to the prestigious Hunter College Silberman School of Social
Though I haven’t had the most involvement in extracurricular activities, I have been trying to turn that around. I joined FCCLA at the start of freshman year. FCCLA was an excellent experience to improve my leadership skills, as well as getting engaged with the school and community. This ranged from helping out with school activities, to collecting and organizing books to be donated to children, and crafting dog beds to donate to the Cedar Valley Humane Society. I ended up not resigning up for FCCLA the following year due to my dealing with a difficult death in my family. However, since then I have gotten stronger and want to expand my community involvement. For that reason, I joined Student Council after the end of my junior year. As a representative, I help in school activities and decision-making. Though I’m a newer member, I’m excited to be a part of the Student Council. I have also recently joined the Science National Honor Society. I was able to join this club because of my accomplishments in science. I doubled up biology and chemistry my sophomore year, challenged myself by taking AP Chemistry my junior year, and am currently enrolled in the Pharmacology Technician program at Kirkwood as a senior. I am eager to see guest speakers and have already signed up for a couple of community service activities in this
Since, arriving at Rowan University I became at-home with Rowan’s diversity and efforts to make an impact on not only its students, but the local residents living in Glassboro too. Early in the Fall semester, I tried-out for the school’s Rugby and Ultimate Frisbee athletic teams, and ran for the Student Government position of Freshmen class Senator. I was trying to find my niche at Rowan and I found it when I joined the Pre-Med, Medlife and Pre-health society clubs. In addition, I ran for another student government position, Senator At-Large. I was elected into student government on November 7th and since then, I have felt like an active member in Rowan’s community. I first learned that Residential Learning and University Housing was looking for students to fill new Residential Assistants positions in a Senate meeting. Additionally, I’m very keen in becoming a Residential Assistant.

When I was nine I told my mother I was going to be the first female Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, and since then my passion for law and politics has only grown. I enjoy being in thick of things and using my energy to move ideas forward. I love persuading others on topics that I see will make our community better for all of us. Participating in activities and events such as Buckeye Girls State, and the National Speech and Debate tournament have broaden my horizons immensely. However, something not listed on the resume is the conversations that happen outside of the rounds, where people come together to discuss different issues because it excites them. I love the political process, it drives the activities I do, the classes
By the time I got to college, my decision to major in political science came as a surprise to absolutely no one in my life. But I knew that my major was more than just a field of study, it’s essentially a lifestyle. Studying political science requires so much more than reading textbooks and writing papers and doing quantitative analysis, at its very core it’s about how people live their lives. I knew that I would have to make concerted efforts outside of the classroom in order to truly understand the way things worked. My first effort at this was serving on the planning and zoning commission for the City of Coffeyville while attending Coffeyville Community College, which gave me a chance to understand local government at a level that most
I am energized by lively discussion, value diversity of opinion, and am one who will always work hard to ensure we accomplish our goal. I have had the opportunity to serve as a board member for several organizations at Georgetown, have led fundraising efforts that have totaled more than $150,000, have planned large-scale events and conferences for Oxfam America and Georgetown Residential Life, and have overseen budgetary appropriations for several clubs as President of the Georgetown University InterHall Council. During my two years as a Resident Assistant, I prided myself on planning activities that appealed to residents from a variety of backgrounds, and I worked tirelessly to build communities where everyone felt included and supported. More recently, I became one of 40 SERVE Leaders at Fannie Mae working together to plan and organize company-wide volunteer opportunities, brainstorm and direct fundraising for the “Help the Homeless” campaign, and partner with local non-profit organizations to create strong relations in and with the communities we serve. I thrive in dynamic, consensus-driven environments that leverage my desire to solve problems and reshape perspectives, and my passion is epitomized in empowering and working closely with others. I hope to have the opportunity to bring this same dedication

I am a patriot who has served my time honorably defending the freedoms of our great nation. Now that my military service on active duty has concluded, I now serve in a different way as a community servant. I believe I owe everything to the community that has served me. I put in as much time as I have into youth groups, and anything involving veteran groups. When my college career is over and begin my career as a lawyer, I hope to help people in a bigger way. A career in politics is something that I have great interest in, to become a servant to the people and pave the way for the younger generation to come in and
Working with nonprofit agencies and AmeriCorp V.I.S.T.A. (Volunteer in Service to America), I had the opportunity to learn firsthand at the efforts given within agencies to service the environment and the public by making changes, and implementing reforms on different issues. I found I have a passion for people, legal policies, compliances, and I am very good as a spokes person, or advocate speaking on change. During the time when I was facilitating as a General Education Development instructor for
