I believe that children learn best through movement and believe that the learning style that has proven to be the most effective based on assessment results is the kinesthetic learning method or teaching style.
According to Sprenger(2002):
“Every lesson should contain movement. Take that movement and repeat if often enough and it becomes a permanent memory. Along with that movement, the learning associated with it become permanent.” Sprenger (p.17)
As a special education teacher, it’s important that I use and apply various teaching techniques, strategies, learning styles, methods, and the latest innovative practices to make certain my students’ meet the yearly goals I’ve set for them and the goals they have according to their IEP’s. These

It has been proven that biologically, students can’t attend to a task or assignment for a long period of time and will often create problems in the classroom.
I often observe students in grade K through 3rd who are expected to sit for 30 minutes or longer and, unfortunately for them, end up being reprimanded for talking or creating some type of disturbance. Teachers have to be aware that students who are expected to sit in a chair or on the floor in a group for more than 10 minute intervals are likely to exhibit negative effects whether it’s emotional or physical, it will generally occur.
When I do plan my lessons, I focus first on my student’s interests, readiness skills, and learning profile and take into consideration that their interests, readiness and learning profile follows in the content that I teach. I then apply my teaching lessons with various activities to keep their brains active and engaged in the learning

For example, when I recently taught a lesson on coin amounts I had my students count out ‘real’ money of various coins rather than the teacher directed worksheet. They were all engaged in this activity. Then, they counted their coins and recorded the amounts on their paper. They worked in groups to do this activity in my classroom. Another example, of course, is using various manipulatives to teach my lessons. Whether they’re counting out objects such as the mini gourds for math, or the recent Halloween boxes of various shapes, or the shaving cream to write names, numbers, letters or words, my students are learning by doing and that’s what counts. They are learning and the evidence is proving just that through teacher assessment and observations. I also believe in using Brain Gym activities and brain breaks to help improve academic performance. They also enjoy the online programs such as “Gonoodle” activities
Beakstead, personal communication, October 31, 2013). Alternately, another student’s area of concentration might be based solely on independent living skills at home or with caretakers, and less focused on academic goals. As the goals are implemented by the special education team the student’s achievements can be evaluated daily, weekly, or monthly and in independent and group settings until mastery of the IEP goal is achieved, and where the learning goals of the IEP are age and skill level appropriate and address the future needs of the student. Additionally, these experiences encourage opportunities to practice new knowledge and skills, where teacher-directed and student feedback is available, and where instructional practice and student expectations can be reflected on and adjusted if necessary (Johnson-Gerard, 2012).
In five years, my goal as a special education teacher is to continue to learn and develop various techniques that will allow me to effectively manage and teach special education classes. I will focus on effective class management and teaching techniques congruent to learning. I will endeavor to make continuous improvements and adjustments as I gain knowledge and experience to become a more effective teacher to my special needs
After hard work I finally found out I am a kinesthetic, right brained learner. To begin, I used many tools to figure it out including a computer test and survey sheets. My favorite one was the computer test, it said i was a kinesthetic learner. On the characteristic worksheet it stated that I am mostly right brained. That made me confused because for left brain it said, “Good at math” and I’m very good at math. I am right brained because of the way I can be successful. I am better by having a partner to help me work. I always work better with a partner because I can talk through things. I love to learn when I can do it having fun. I can finish work quickly if I focus on the work. If I do my work around tons of noise I can’t do my work. I use
A kinesthetic learner learns best by moving their bodies to activate their large or small muscles as they learn. This definitely fits me to the T. I never sit still; my hand and mouth have to be constantly moving in order for me to focus and retain any information. It also explains why my first grade teacher sent me home with multiple letters stating that I needed to be put on Ritalin. But that’s not all. I also learned from
Gneeve Thomas November 3, 2015 The learning style that I identified with is kinesthetic. Kinesthetic is learning
I think I am a kinesthetic learner which means I have to feel you learn or exercise to remember pe is easiest for me I always have to be moving to learn like if i am doing push ups I will remember 2x2 =4 I have trouble sitting in one place for too long I start squirming and moving.I need to learn how to learn to sit down and learn. I need something that will help me sit still and shut up because I need to try but for now I am okay with being kenith edic and I am going to learn to get a 1000 word essay done and feel good because I sat through it and got it done I try for complex sentences. I think it's easier for me If I get a good grade on school because i try my best to do what i do and dont give up on what I do best , exercised be ready
Your child/student took a “Learning Styles Inventory” last week to determine how they learn best. They discovered that they were a visual, an auditory, or a kinesthetic learner.
I explained to the kinesthetic learners that when learning information, they usually are most interested in how something works and so hands-on activites are very important to their learning. I explained that they could use information to construct very concrete representations of what they are learning such as charts, models, or diagrams. In addition, I explained how sometimes body movements or choreographed movements could help in remembering information. I gave the example of using Dr. Rich Allen’s series of hand motions to memorize up to twenty facts. In addition, I explained how I use manipulatives in my classroom to aid instructional practices. I also said that actually doing a task is usually their best learning process. Instead of reading about a task or watching it done, it is important for their own learning style that they involve themselves in a task as much as possible. I explained project-based assessments, and concluded that these types of assessments would best be suited to their learning styles. One of the participants said that she has to transfer her teacher’s words into their own learning aids. When her teacher gives an assignment or lesson, she makes her own style of notecards and uses these notecards to study. Even when the teacher gives her a paper with the information (graphic organizer), she still uses her method to study. It helped this student understand why doing the work over again was important. She continued to say that she sometimes
For so many years, I thought I was a visual learner. Once I read the different learning styles and took the Learning Styles Characteristics Quiz, I learned that I am a Tactical/Kinesthetic learner. Tactical/Kinesthetic learners learn through touch, movement and space, get restless during long lectures, tend to collect things, enjoy feeling, discovery and action, like to move around, enjoy working with tools, and learn the best through hands-on approach. Some of the learning strategies for this learning style are, sitting in a comfortable chair, study while listening to music, squeezing a stress ball instead of fidgeting, color grounding, try to hear words in their head, and when learning new information, makes flash cards to help process the information. Tactical/Kinesthetic learner’s strengths are that they enjoy using tools or lesions that involve active participation, have good memory, and have good motor communication. Amongst the three learning styles in this activity, Tactical/Kinesthetic learning appears to be the most hands on learning style.
I learn best by using the kinesthetic learning style, which is usually associated with handcrafting things such as models. I know this is my best learning style, because when I study for a spelling quiz I get the best grade by writing the spelling vocabulary words over and over again.I think that projects help me learn the most because I learn from making things, not looking at papers. I benefit from knowing my learning style because I can grasp the idea and concept faster when I make something. I can also tap into my creative side. I can use this knowledge to get a higher chance of getting a good grade. In school when I’m loaded with projects, I can use this skill to my advantage and not get behind. Since I know my learning
When choosing a LEARNING STYLE that best allows me to learn at a rapid pace would be Kinesthetic learning or FIELD DEPENDENT. According to the dictionary, The kinesthetic tactic techniques are used in combination with visual and/or auditory study techniques, producing multi-sensory learning. With this being said, I prefer to learn when I am actively performing the transaction at hand. An example that can be given is when I first started working at my current job the training was primarily on hands training in which allowed me to perform trial-error. Trial and error are key when learning due to the fact that it allows individuals to learn from their mistakes and allow growth. However, when faced with the scenario that kinesthetic learning is
The article gave me a better understanding on methods I can implement that my special education students receive learning experiences which will assist them in being successful throughout school. I feel as though the six positions which were addressed have the potential to allow all students to be successful in all educators and administrators attempt to implement them. As a current educator I have experience first hand the power of setting and maintaining high expectations for all students. It has been noted in my experience that students will rise to the level of expectation which is set upon them. Educators must consciously and consistently encourage student to reach their highest potential and beyond. Educators must provide confidence and a means to succeed to enhance all student self efficacy which will in turn aid in students’ overall success. The information within this article give me a more concrete understanding of the Georgia Department of Education’s Teacher Keys Effective System Standard 9 which calls for a positive learning environment centered around high expectations, care, and respect for all students (GaDOE, 2017).
A learning style is an individual’s unique approach to learning based on strengths, weaknesses, and preferences. There are three primary ways in which a person can learn. Those include visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. A visual learner is known to absorb more information by utilizing visual aids such as graphs, charts, or index cards. Auditory learners prefer to hear the information to learn it. Kinesthetic learners use more of a hands-on approach by touching or doing. I considered each of these learning styles before attending the American Public University System to get a degree online.
with the use of visual stimuli. So the objectives for each specific lesson work together over the unit deepening pupils understand of the way dance composition works. Also, the same set warm-up is purposely used over the span of the three lessons to allow pupils to the opportunity to improve and although a shortened version is seen in lesson 2, pupils are asked to recall the previous weeks work instead. The reason for the alteration in lesson 2 is setting a recall task will improve on their movement memory skills but also keeping them moving and focussed (the sole purpose of the warm up in this instance) without impinging on time. The movement phrase taught by the teacher in lesson 1 is intended to add to
The subjects for this research will include approximately five to seven seventh and eighth grade special education students. The male to female student ratio is approximately six to zero. These students receive services in the special education program for mild to moderate learning disabilities in the areas of reading, writing, math, and/or behavior disabilities. The students receive specially designed instruction targeted at their individual skill levels in each goal area. Students are progress-monitored weekly in the special education setting based on their goal areas, which may include reading, writing, math, and behavior.
