King George the third was known as the king that lost America. He was born on may 24th, 1738 in London England, and he lived in England his whole life. He ruled over Britain, and the American colonies. King George shaped our country's past by tightening the colonists freedom this motivated the colonists to win their freedom. King george also had many personal problems like mental sickness and depression, sadly on January 24th, 1820 king George the third passed away. King George the Third was raised in London, England. Many think that King George was all bad. Some of his decisions were awful, they killed families, and oppressed colonies. These decisions also made the colonists come to a realization that having a king to rule them was a very bad idea. One person with all the power in their hands could lead to destruction. They needed independence from Great Britain. “Once vigorous measures appear to be the only mean left of bringing the Americans to a due submission, the colonies will submit.” King George said this, and he was determined to win the war, he was not going to be defeated easily. Through many tough battles and disputes the American revolution was over. Britain had surrendered. On September 3rd, 1783 the Treaty of Paris was signed. This document gave independence to the colonies. This lead to the decision for three branches of government. This would divide up all the power, and it would guarantee more than one opinion. All the power would be distributed through many people and colonies. Without King George Americans may have never realized this, if King George never lived, Americans might still be living with …show more content…
Britain needed money. Instead of sleeping with silk sheets he decided to sleep with cotton ones, this is just one of the many sacrifices that King George made to benefit Great Britain. He with the help from parliament he also decided to benefit from the colonies by taxing them. The colonies did not agree with the many laws and acts that were made to tax the colonies and to tighten their freedoms. The Colonist started to revolt. This started the revolution. King George has influenced many lives including mine. Without him there may still be monarchy. There might not have been the American revolution. Without King George the third future generations might still have been living with the power in one hand. It is very important to learn about King George because now we know that other opinions can benefit us. King George only had one opinion, his own. There were never any other ideas, that could have changed the way Great Britain and The United states could have cooperated. We can also take other people's opinion into consideration, so that we don't put our country in jeopardy. Although Winning the American revolution was a great surprise, and reconstructing our country payed off. Americans would have been better off as a nation without King George the third America would have started out construction with more money and more organization. The colonies lost millions of dollars fighting the war. They
He has first gained public notice when he went to persuade the French the leave the Ohio Valley as they threatened to drive out the English (“George Washington”). This began to what is known as the Seven Year’s French and Indian War. After this war, many taxes were created to pay for the debt of Britain Protection. New Englanders felt the taxes were an abuse of power and began an American Revolution at Lexington and Concord in which Washington joined the Continental Congress and was named the Commander in Chief of the Continental forces. He led the forces to a moral boosting victory at Valley Forge against the British. After the war, he became the most important man in the country (“George Washington”). Washington retired from the army and became elected the first president of the United States after the new government was formed. When he retired from office he had given his ‘Farewell Address’ speech that included two main priorities for the success of America: no political parties and no foreign affairs (Williams). Although tensions between the French and British were inevitable, Washington was vital in the victory of the later Revolutionary War from the military knowledge he gained from the Seven Year’s War. Washington was extremely influential; thus, without him the ratification of the Constitution would not have been possible. The checks and balances system would not have been created resulting
The colonies decided to elect a president on the year 1789. Washington was the first choice for president. During the American Revolution , he was one of the best generals. For example, he was usually fighting along with his soldiers, not just giving orders. Also, Washington was never severely wounded in battle. Many people believe we would have lost the war without George Washington.
On July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was established and many of the U.S. citizens toppled down a statue of King George the III. In response to this, King George sent over a thousand troops over to “tame” the rebels in the U.S. George Washington was a short-tempered general but he had much courage, and his troops respected him. The American Revolution lasted for eight years with Washington having three wins, four losses, and one draw. His tactics persuaded the French Army to help Washington’s troop with the war. The war finally ended when General Howe surrendered to Washington and his troops on November
June 1755, George Washington Became Commander in Chief but to many patriots he was much more than the Commander in Chief. He became the calm voice to those who needed it, George Washington was known to be strongly determined and held a heavy load of the patriotic duty to country. George Washington was the real backbone into the Revolution war and kept it from going under during the hardships and unexpected trials and tribulations that occurred during the long years of war. Without General Washington as the commander and chief, it’s believed that the unthinkable and imaginable could never have succeeded. His faith in the cause and his devotion to the ideals it embodied made him the symbol of America — the spirit of the Revolution. http://www.ushistory.org/valleyforge/washington/george2.html
To have presidents and not kings was the next important thing to the Revolution. After America had become a country the leaders would go to meetings and they all decided that their would be no king to rule over everyone but a president that could help lead America. This is important because think if we still had a king America would be so different and so many different outcomes would have happened and be happening. I’m not sure if America would have
King George III might argue that the american revolution was really bad for King George III because colonists foght really hard for the independence from him. It is true that american the revolution was really hard for the King during the fight for independence, However this does not discredit what i have shown above because the King george II was a bad men and colonists didn't like
The American colonies were originally loyal to Britain. Early on, however, King George called for some actions that sparked feelings of revolution. The French-Indian War had left severe consequences for Britain such as debt. The colonists were angered by the taxes and unjust treatment they were given so they decided to declare war on the British to become independent. Although some argue that King George’s power protected them, the American colonies were justified in breaking away from their British forefather because of the tyrannical acts of King George and his levying of taxes on goods in the American colonies.
This can be evidenced by document three, which shows Thomas Paine’s pamphlet called “Common Sense”, and through document six, which shows the Declaration of Independence. In “Common Sense”, Paine states that if the powers of governing remains in the hands of the king, he will have a negative effect over the whole legislation of the continent. He later states that the King has imposed laws on the colonies that have benefitted no one but himself and has caused the bloodshed and slaughter of the colonists, despite having a pretended title of “Father of his People”. The Declaration of Independence displays all the grievances of the colonists toward the King; in other words, all the negative impacts the King has imposed on the colonists. Some of these grievances include: “forbidding his Governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance”, “dissolving Representative Houses”, and “quartering large bodies of armed troops”. King George III having little consideration for the colonies is a strong argument for a revolution and independence because the applied to almost everyone in the British colonies, whether it be the colonists, the Africans, or the Native Americans- therefore they could all empathize with the cause. The strongest argument made by those who were against the American Revolution was that the American colonies would be weak without Britain. This can be seen in document nine, which shows the loyalists plead their cause to the King, in which they state that Great Britain will prevent the ruin of “her American friends” because it is in their best common interest since they are also British subjects. They also state that the British have provided them with the aid of powerful and good allies and relief which has helped them in the past. This is a strong argument
Do you know what would have happened if King George III was more reasonable and listened to the colonies? The American Revolution could have been avoided. The British government could have had a better and productive role in the British colonies and King George III could have been more reasonable to the British colonies and not tax as much as he did. If these things had happened, America would be in a state of dominion under Great Britain until they gained their independence in a more peaceful way.
The American revolution was greatly affected by King George III and most of its major events would not have taken place without his kingship. Though he was across the seas, he managed to impact the colonists lives heavily. George William Frederick was the son of Frederick Louis Prince of Wales, and grandson to King George II of Britain (George III). At the age of twelve George suffered the death of his father, Frederick Prince of Wales (Death Of Frederick, Prince of Wales). Thus making George the next in line to the throne and now George, Prince of Wales.
George Washington (1732-99) was commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War (1775-83) and served two terms as the first U.S. president, from 1789 to 1797. The son of a prosperous planter, Washington was raised in colonial Virginia. As a young man, he worked as a surveyor then fought in the French and Indian War (1754-63). During the American Revolution, he led the colonial forces to victory over the British and became a national hero. In 1787, he was elected president of the convention that wrote the U.S. Constitution. Two years later, Washington became America’s first president. Realizing that the way he handled the job would impact how future presidents approached the position, he handed down a legacy of strength, integrity and national purpose. Less than three years after leaving office, he died at his Virginia plantation, Mount Vernon, at age 67.
Due to the fact that the people in America wanted to split from Great Britain, it demonstrated that they wanted freedom and democracy. With what Washington did, it contradicted with the whole idea of freedom and conflicted the purpose of the Revolutionary War. His action was not favored by the people of America. What happened to him was similar to Louis XVI, the last French king, during the French Revolution. The people of America overthrew the the monarchy with the help of the government and the military. He was executed for treason at the place where now is The White House. This was why The White House was built, to commemorate the victory of American people gaining their
After the American Revolutionary War was finished, a new leader was needed to run the United States of America. The colonists of New England had just won their independence from the monarchy of Great Britain, who had not represented the colonists in a way the colonists deemed fair. The leader of the Continental Army, George Washington, was inaugurated in 1789. By following the outline of the presidency that the Constitution described, setting different traditions, and helping to create a stronger government, George Washington helped shape the office of the Presidency and helped shape early American government.
Firstly, the King’s absolute power was a reasonable grievance of the colonists. King George prosecuted the making of laws that were to bind the colonists despite any circumstances. Although, the colonists believed that his power was too unlimited to apply defeat on. This meant that Americans would lose everything if they were to oppose him. Moreover, the Quartering Act portrayed how people’s own homes were resided by militants under the king’s orders. This was a violation to their rights of property. Similarly, the people demanding their laws of nature are in no way for the King’s personal benefit. As a matter of fact, the King should be considered the servant of the people, as his purpose is to serve their injustices. Moreover, the colonists’ rights by nature averse to King George’s beliefs. As expected, his beliefs only respond to the
King George was affecting how the colonists lived by imposing high taxes. The colonists did not like these laws. Parliament was passing laws such as, the Sugar Act and the Stamp Act. Both these Acts were established to get money from the colonists to go to Great Britain. The Sugar Act, set a tax on sugar and molasses imported into the colonies and The Stamp Act, taxed all paper and documents. Great Britain was taxing the colonists because they were in debt that stemmed from both the French and the Indian War. Parliament felt that they could tax the American colonists because Great Britain was protecting them in the war. Another Act, The Boston Port Act, closed the port of Boston until the East India Company was paid for the lost tea. This created a great hardship for the people of Boston whose livelihood depended on trade. All of these acts made it hard for the colonists to live independently and was one part of why it was so necessary for the colonists to fight for their
