“Prince was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor, he served as a major figure in popular music for over three decades,” states Evita Gorgorni from Useless Daily. Prince Rogers Nelson was born June 7, 1958, and died April 21, 2016. He self- taught himself to play the piano at seven, guitar at thirteen, and drums at fourteen. Prince has won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, an Academy Award and sold over 100 million records worldwide. One song of his, “Kiss” was nominated for Favorite Soul/R&B Single, and actually won an award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The song is important because it tells of a man who is explaining his intentions with a woman. The song displays this by the instruments, lyrics, and arrangement. “Kiss” uses literary terms and is highly recommended rating almost 4 of 5 stars.
The song “Kiss” originally started as a short one minute demo with a single 12- bar blues verse. Prince gave up the song to the funk band Mazarati for their debut album because he was not quite sure how to complete it. Mazarati and producer David Z put forth much effort to rework the song to sound minimal. On this track the three instruments used were a guitar, bass, and drums. When Mazarati brought back the song to Prince, he was dumbfounded at their work and made the decision to take back the song for himself.
