Have you ever thought about being rich? How about finding gold where you least expected it to be? In the passages “Klondike Gold Rush” and A Woman Who Went to Alaska and City of Gold each author or narrator discusses the same topic which was that people went out on a challenging trip to find gold, but only some people were successful. In the two passages and the one video the authors or narrator were using different points of views. Each person’s point of view shapes the reader's understanding of the miners’ lives is because each person has there own situation, so they have to act and talk differently than some of the other characters.

One of the better known and first documentations found pertaining to the gold rush would be the account of James Marshall, in which he had been looking for the right piece of land to build his sawmill. Once he found the right area to build the sawmill, he set up camp. After a day or so went by, he had noticed shiny pieces of some unknown substance in the river near his encampment. As it turned out, these pieces were gold,"Boys, by God I believe I have found a gold mine.” (Holliday, 58). This story circled the globe far and wide, causing many to flock from all corners of the world in order to experience what James Marshall had gotten by pure accident.

The California Gold rush of the years 1848-1849 changed the America financial status and the American population. It all started when James Marshall found some shiny metal near the river and he took this to his boss John Sutter and after testing of this metal they found out that this was Gold, But Sutter advised Marshall not to tell anyone about this because this might ruin Sutter’s chance to build a successful agricultural empire in California. But there were rumors and whispers that there was gold in the hills, and this all came to an end when a merchant named Samuel Brannan took some of the gold from the river and showed it to the town of San Francisco, and this caused almost all the residents in San Francisco to move to the hills to find

The environment in the Klondike Gold Rush had very harsh conditions on the people. In a nutshell, the Klondike Gold Rush was a movement, where people would travel to the North, which was Yukon, in search for gold. Prices of gold were very high at that time, so the people decided to start on the harsh journey of the Klondike. This all started when three men by the names of Jim Mason, Tagish Charlie, and George Carmack found gold in Dawson City on the August of 1896. Eleven months after that, in 1897, a steamship travelled home from Yukon, carrying "more than a ton of gold", according to a local newspaper, and so it began.

The Alaskan Gold Rush (Klondike Gold Rush) was a migration of an estimated 100,000 prospectors to the Klondike Region in search of gold. Gold was discovered by local miners in August of 1896 which caused the prospectors to travel in. The gold rush ended in 1899 with very few people actually striking it rich.

After this speck of gold was found the word spread around California. Once the word was through California and other people started finding gold the news got to the 11th U.S. president, James Polk. One year earlier Mexico gave up the California territory at the end the of the Mexican-American War. The sudden change of land ownership caused conflict between the Mexican Americans and the Californians.

Though James and Sutter tired to keep this news as secret, there was one newspaper reported it.
