Kyle Wiens writes that he would not hire people with poor grammar, however, I would hire someone with poor grammar. I understand that good grammar can take you far in business and in life, but if there are people with bad grammar we should help them. If there are more people like Kyle Wiens in the job market, I feel that people would not get a fighting chance. Provided that the applicant meets the requirements for the job. Certainly it is very selfish to think that every person received the same quality education in grammar. Meanwhile Wiens writes that “ good grammar makes good business sense.” In other words he is saying if you do not obtain good grammar you will be worthless in the job market. In addition, people with good grammar isn't
An individual can’t be influenced by their own selves but also the people that are surrounding him/her. It is due to the pressure that others put on the individual which impacts against him/her greatly as they are forced to accept it and go with it. Going with something that is not completely accepted by the individuals will ultimately cause them to feel rejection. A poet, Peter Skrzynecki, speaks of his personal experience which is strongly connected to belonging. An example is St Patrick’s college where he went to a school and felt like he didn’t learn anything from there even though he spent quite a long time there. Feliks Skrzynecki, another poem written by Peter, its where the persona talks about his father who is not Australian living
My reaction to this article is that the information presented is truthful and the article’s information backs it up. I think that Judi Perkins did a very good job at searching and looking for information that this article needed and made very good examples out of them. Perkins is right that in today’s society that there is a lot of grammar errors and most Americans have come to accept those errors as shown in the man wearing a company shirt that said “ Providing quality service since 10 years.” The company shirt represents how the company’s view to little bit of information or what the care about.
How often do we as employees consider our use or misuse of grammar, spelling and punctuation in the workplace? Proper usage of grammar, spelling, and punctuation results in the use of Standard English. Standard English is known as the correct form of the English language. Is our misuse of Standard English in our workplace reflecting negatively upon us? Brad Hoover, the CEO of Grammarly, says, “Companies looking to hire top talent should consider grammar as one predictor of a candidate’s aptitude and success.” (Hoover). Many people may find the use of non-standard grammar trivial however, this is not the case in a professional atmosphere. Non-Standard English in the workplace provides no benefit to either the employee or employer and has only negative consequences. The use of non-standard English in the workplace will negatively affect our communication, image, chance for promotions and even our pay in the workplace.
It is very important that you use correct grammar when communication in a business environment to make sure what is written is understood correctly. It is official; Richard "Bruno" Hauptmann has now been executed by an electric chair. The man hated all around the world is now gone for a crime that has been dubbed "crime of the century". I am just an average citizen of the USA and like many others, I was very curious and passionate about this case. On the night of March 1, 1932, Richard Hauptmann became infamous for the brutal kidnapping and killing of Charles Lindberg's 20-month-old son Charles Lindbergh Jr. How could he have done something so evil to the most loved family in America?
Improvement to my grammar is the second area I’ve developed in this course. “It’s the little things that matter”, said by many people, and the way this relates to my second reasoning is due to the fact little grammatical errors matter too. When writing papers, I learned the skill to reread my sentences repeatedly, and see if it sounds right as an overall sentence. This skill, not only helped improve my writing, but also my texting. Improving my grammar is also useful when creating a resume, and applying for jobs and even scholarships. Overall, it is a skill I am pleased I learned to develop, and hope it improves even more over time.
Grammar is and has been a big deal in American society. It’s so big that we are require to take English classes all four years of high school. What’s the point of grammar if things are always changing and developing in English? The point is to not look illiterate and when a person goes college or decides to join the work force. In the book “I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar”, the author Kyle Wiens states, “After all, grammar has nothing to do with job performance… right? Wrong. If it takes someone more than 20 years to notice how to properly use “it’s” then that’s not a learning curve I’m comfortable with.” (Wiens, 500) I personally agree with Mr. Wiens when he stated that comment. When you have a business and your trying to be successful and every aspect then its right to also be grammar savvy as well. The only thing I think is to extreme is the
A piece of writing is much more than just words on a page. Just as a potter carefully molds and carves every detail and shape into a piece of art, so does a writer. Each comma, dash, antecedent, and fragment is picked cautiously. Each grammatical choice brings to pass a different rhetorical effect creating an irreplaceable and unique piece of art filled with fine detail. Rhetorical grammar is the clay of a potter. One must have it to begin and it has a variety of options to choose from. A person’s ability to understand and use grammar is as the technique owned by the craftsmen. Just as clay can be brittle and weak, so can grammar if used incorrectly or not to its best ability. The most amazing work is not made simply by chance but because of
No one should be mad at this guy for making employees take a mandatory grammar test. People are applying to companies in which their main job would be to write! Why would Kylie ever hire people who easily confuse “to” and “too?” This is basic grammar that not only should everyone have memorized already, but if you don’t, it makes you look really bad. He owns these big companies and he needs people who will represent him well.
(1) Many if not most people grow up speaking a form of regional or social dialect. If you raise your comfort level with grammar, you’ll have more confidence that your speaking and writing won’t betray you among your more literate peers. (2) Many people who are confident that they know grammatical
Ever wonder how good grammar can lead to success? Think about it like this, say you just sent an essay to the college of your dreams, and you’ve worked on that essay for weeks fixing it, making sure the grammar is perfect. Finally the letter you been waiting for is here, and you’re so nervous and scared to see what it says. Once you open it you see that you’ve gotten accepted, and they’re amazed with the grammar used in your essay, and that they’ll love having someone with that good of a grammar at their college. Good grammar doesn’t only lead to good success, but great opportunities in life which is better for our future.
It is not uncommon to say that grammar instruction plays an important role in language teaching. Regarding the status and importance of grammar teaching, a variety of opinions have been made. Batstone (1994) states that “language without grammar would be chaotic: countless words without the indispensable guidelines for how they can be ordered and modified” (p. 4). More vividly, Wang (2010) makes two similes. She compares grammar to the frame of a house, which is a decisive factor to ensure the solidness of it. Additionally, she regards grammar as a walking stick, whose function is to help and support students to learn English. Thus, the nature of grammar instruction manifests its own significance as it helps students
Larsen-Freeman (2001) as cited in Mart (2013), describes grammar as a system of meaningful structures and patterns that are governed by particular pragmatic constraints. This clearly indicates that grammar plays a crucial role in learning the target language. Grammar instruction is one of the most difficult issues that people have encountered in language learning and teaching. Therefore, the best way to overcome this issue is by
Grammar has always been an important issue in second and foreign language learning and teaching. Some hold the view that grammar is not essential for second/foreign language learning and therefore have a ‘zero position’ regarding grammar teaching. On the other hand, some view that grammar is necessary for second/foreign language learning.
