As solely a student, I will tell you that Lauren is an amazing student. In a classroom environment, Lauren is knowledgeable about many subjects, participates often, and always seeks to learn more. Specifically in social studies, Lauren has an extensive knowledge of international, historical, dates; events; and people. With every book that we read in English, Lauren is able to find metaphors that I never would have noticed.
Twenty-two year old singer/songwriter Dodie Clark has become internet-famous with her cheerful jingles and poetic introspection. However, Sydney also uses the extended metaphor in which he compares the physical blindness of desire and the mental blindness. Desire preys upon the blind and lures the fools because they are easily convinced that chasing after one's desires is all there is too look forward too. The speaker claims that desire can turn men into “dregs of scattered thoughts” which illuminates his feelings towards desire and how it can manipulate people and drive them to insanity. He uses extended metaphor to in the sense that desire can make a man blind to what he is truly doing and make him believe things that he wouldn't otherwise believe. He also relates this to physical blindness in that desire can make someone do unimaginable things to satisfy their desires.
~ The utilization of metaphors and similes throughout Mary Wollstonecraft's piece conveys the argument that she poses to society. The added effect of the powerful metaphors incorporated into her writing is evidently necessary in order to illuminate her main viewpoints. Mary Wollstonecraft compares the way women act to “mere animals” and the way “such children should be expected to act”. The comparison between mere animals and women depicts how society has stripped away women’s dignity by poorly educating them. She further explains that women are portrayed as acting like children and are not able to act like stable adults in their relationships.
Also, she has a certain down-to-earth approach that makes learning fun, thus more interesting to attend her tutoring sessions. Moreover, her personalized attention focuses on the specific needs of individual students.

In this reflective narrative piece, Brooke Logan recounts her mission trip to Cuba. Some use of vivid language was evident in the piece for example, when Brooke was talking about how the roads were made of huge rocks instead of just saying rocks. This could have been improved upon by saying that the rocks were ginormous boulders or something along those lines. She did include at least one form of figurative language by saying that the “teams grew like weeds”. The use of the simile really shows how fast the teams were growing. The main theme of this paper is that even in the hard times, you can make it through with God. Brooke does an amazing job of getting that point across by mentioning several times that she was on a mission trip and the

In The Language of Science by Carol Reeves, she discusses metaphors in science in unit two and how they are an important part of everyday life. We constantly use metaphors in our daily lives and we have become so accustomed to them that we fail to realize how heavily we rely on them. We use metaphors consciously and unconsciously every day to describe things. They help us express feelings we cannot describe so we relate them to another experience. However, metaphors are imperfect. They fail to completely describe the events and never tell the whole truth. Sometimes metaphors make dreary situations seem brighter, or they make us feel comfortable with what is going on in the world.
This was one of my favorite videos. Mitch Anthony explained his topics in a short and concise manner. He explained how his mother lost a lot of money due to bad financial advice. He told his mother that she needed to find a financial advisor to help her with her money. He began to look for a good financial advisor for her, but she turned them down one buy one. After sometime they finally found a financial advisor who met her needs. This financial advisor was able to make a connection to his mother and was then able to explain everything in her terms with the use of metaphors. Mitch then went on to explain how effective metaphors are.

She is a born leader, and works excellently in groups and frequently pushes her groups to reach their goals. Furthermore, I have rarely seen a student more respectful to both teachers and her peers than Georgia. She is a very social person, and is both outgoing and funny. Georgia is also exceptionally creative. She is always pushing herself to look at challenges and assignments in a different way and it always pays off, especially when writing essays and in other written assignments, as she is an amazing writer. The characteristics that Georgia has demonstrated throughout her entire high school career have prepared her for the upcoming challenge of collegiate academics. I am certain she will approach these new opportunities with the same persistency and drive for excellence that she applies to all of her endeavors, especially as she challenges herself with the new learning experiences and community that are available in the college setting. To conclude, Georgia is an extraordinary student and person, and I recommend her to this school with my highest regards. Sincerely, Georgia Beckmann Head of College Counselling Prospect Hill Academy Charter School Collegiate

A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a comparison is done by using words that would normally describe one thing, and apply to describe another. One can normally find metaphors in songs and poems as well as other instances where artistic writing might be suggested. In Silvia Path's short poem Metaphors she uses metaphorical language to describe what it feels like to be pregnant. Path describes herself as one big riddle, she proceeds to describe how she feels about her pregnancy with the use of numerous metaphors, she successfully paints a very distinct picture in the readers imagination on what she might of looked like while being pregnant. "One view is that metaphors make comparisons, the basis for the comparison being the features (or
The word paradigm is derived from the Greek word paradeigma with the meaning of “beside or beyond example.” Joanna Macy connects five metaphors of paradigms to everyday life within societies. The five metaphors Macy connected were world as a battlefield, world as a classroom, world as a trap, world as a lover, and world as self. The paradigm that I relate to the most is world as classroom and in a way the world as battlefield.
Throughout the song, Skyscraper by Demi Lovato, there are various metaphors used to further get her message across. One of the first metaphors found is in the line, “I will be rising from the ground.” This line does not literally mean she will be standing up from the ground, but it symbolizes that she is overcoming her struggles and her past experiences, letting herself grow. Another metaphor used, which is in the form of personification, is in the line “Skies are crying.” Skies do not have to ability to physically cry like humans do, but the artist is trying to compare the sky to something that cries and the raindrops to teardrops. Another metaphor found in this song is, “And untangle you from me.” This line is referencing that the singer
