A lack of understanding of these two key components, might put at significant risk the children's welfare, leading professionals to overlook certain situations and to offer inadequate support or lower standards of care (NSPCC, 2017).

In many cases according to Doyle (2006), children and young children are more dominant to abuse than the older children, and most of the children abuser could be relatives, close friends or parents. Children who have been abused are likely to be affected in their adulthood, some having depression, antisocial behaviours, and unable to sustain relationship according to (NICE, 2013). However, it is very important for all the professionals working with children to be able to recognise the signs of abuse, what is abuse and how the effects of abuse can affect children in their lives. In Amie’s case she is going through some of the abuse, and she is 4 years old and the youngest of four children and she lives with her mother and father (Mr and Mrs Newton).

Children and young people who have been physically abused may be fearful, submissive and aggressive after the abuse has stopped. The abuse has taught them that hitting is a way to control others and solve problems. The beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours that appear after physical abuse can cause problems with friends, struggling to maintain and keep friendships. They may be distrustful of authority figures at home or school becoming fearful of their carers and those there to help them. They may feel guilty, ashamed, angry, helpless or hostile resulting in anxiety disorders or depression.

Each week Child Protective Services receives more than 50,000 allegations of child abuse. Two-thirds of the allegations have enough evidence to start investigations. The results of these investigations showed 2,450 children are abused everyday (Ianelli, 2006). In 1999, CPS, nearly four, confirmed an estimated 1,401 child abuse and neglect fatalities every day. Most parents and other caregivers do not intend to hurt their children, but abuse is defined by the effect on the child, not the motivation of the parents or caregiver.Tens of thousands of children each year are traumatized by physical, sexual, and emotional abusers or by caregivers who neglect them.Child abuse as common as it is shocking. Most of us can’t imagine what would make an adult use violence against a child, and the worse the behavior is, the more unimaginable it seems. The rediscovery of child abuse can be largely contributed to the news media for highlighting the inhumane treatment of children by parents and guardians. Many children were being viciously punished by parents and guardians as a form of corrective training. The harsh punishment and beating would have resulted in severe injuries to the child and their wellbeing. The disturbing circumstances reported by the media drew strong condemnation from people and organization around the nation. The highlighted problem by the media helped mobilize a very strong social movement to deal with the problems and issues relating to child abuse. In assessing Emma’s case, an analysis of her dynamic systems and the interrelatedness between the biological, social, psychological, and developmental factors, reveals that Emma has had major deficiencies, effecting her early/middle childhood life span development. Thus, the traumas in which Emma has experienced, will nevertheless negatively affect her continued development into adulthood, if her undesired, aggressive behaviors do not produce successful and consistent interventions.

INTRODUCTION: “Child Abuse occurs when a parent or a care taker physically, emotionally, or sexually mistreats or neglects a child resulting in the physical, emotional, or sexual harm or imminent risk of harm or exploitation, or in extreme cases the death of a child,” child abuse is a big deal because in today’s society many children face abuse, there are many effects and reasons as to why a child may be abuse.

With child abuse and neglect being so prevalent globally, it is important to recognize why these types of maltreatment occur and is a relevant topic for all to explore. Many are interested in how child abuse and neglect affect the individuals who are victims as well as the use and efficacy of treatment procedures. Child abuse has serious physical and psycho-social consequences which adversely affect the health and overall well-being of a child. There are long-term consequences of experiencing these forms of maltreatment. Awareness and understanding needs to be brought to this devastatingly common crisis and the advancement of child abuse and neglect prevention needs to be encouraged.

In a study conducted by McIntyre (1990), twenty-one percent of the teachers that participated in the study reported that they would not be able to see signs of physical abuse. The majority of participant stated they would be able to notice the signs of abuse if these signs were made obvious. Physical signs of physical abused are not always noticeable; the perpetrator will often cover up any physical sign. This means that teachers have to pay more attention to the psychological signs of physical abuse. Psychological signs may include extreme wariness of parents or adults, watchfulness, apprehensiveness when others cry or complete wariness of physical contact. If the perpetrator covers the physical factors, teachers need to become more aware of the psychological signs of physical abuse.
