Introduction
Leaders at all levels have a responsibility to assist and develop team members through coaching and guidance (Performance Coaching, Counseling and Leadership Principles - Leading Concepts, 2014). In order to be an effective leader, one has to focus on helping the individual with basic developmental needs and providing them with the tools to develop a plan. This plan will assist the individual with initiating a self-assessment to determine where they are now and where they see themselves in the future. It could also be a way of determining what it would take to reach these goals. Leaders have different personalities and leadership styles but serves the same purpose. According to a passage in a book written by Stephanie Stevens (2013), one of the former U.S. President John Quincy Adams described leadership this way: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” I can appreciate this statement because when assessing yourself as a leader, it requires a leader to consider the following: values, leadership style, motivations, and competencies. Values Values are important because they can be used to gauge the level of happiness an individual may have for their profession and personal life. Values that are important to me in my life are my family, job, business, friends, and service to others. I chose these values and in this order because my family has helped me through many
I believe that a value is something that is important to an individual and the values that I believe in play a very important role in my life. My values are greatly influenced by my family. My values include family, health, being respectful and non-judgmental. I also value my daughter, my friends and being honest. I believe that a value is something that you should assign love and
Leadership comes in different forms and an effective leader will use their power conservatively and strive to share their power with other group members. Leaders should strive to enhance work ethic and abilities of those around them. They should have high expectations and set challenging goals for those on their teams. It is crucial for a leader to create a positive
When exploring my values, I found that there are quite a few things that are truly important to me. The following values are essential in my life: Achievement, attitude, awareness, caring, commitment, compassion, competence, courage, creativity, family, forgiveness, friendships, future generations, generosity, health, honest, humility, humor/fun, independence, integrity, making a difference, patient, personal fulfillment, personal & professional growth, safety, success, trust, well-being, and wisdom.
Values relate to our personal principles, morals, and ideals—that is, what we consider to be important. Each person is unique, with their own personal values and beliefs shaped by a number of factors that include culture, religion, and personal experiences. We value each person as an individual, respect their aspirations and commitments in life, and seek to understand their priorities, needs, abilities and limits.
Leadership is multidimensional. There is no straightforward way to describe what a leader is or explain who makes a great leader. The description will be shaped by the purpose of the work being done and the followers one achieves. Dye (2010) states that leadership is a “living phenomenon” (p. 14) and supports the need to provide personalization to the leadership style. There is much discussion on the development of a leader. Some believe that you are a natural born leader who fine-tunes those skills through “persistence and perseverance of failures and successes” (Blanken, 2013, para. 5). Others, like Blanken (2013), feel that exposures early in life begin the development of leadership traits, and “education, jobs, and life experiences then shape the leader’s philosophy and psychology” (para. 7). A dominant style might be apparent in a leader; however, the adaptability in leadership approaches allows the leader to be focused on
Leaders, worldwide are judged by their ability to conduct themselves appropriately as well as manage a team. A leader with vision and passion can positively influence persons by injecting enthusiasm and energy. “Today leaders are expected to guide, motivate,
Values are intangible things that are important to us, and that guide us, individually, to make decisions. Each person has a different set of values, morals, and ethics, which is the reason that each person handles a situation differently. Here, I will discuss my top 5 values, and why they are important to me.
Values are significant because they subconsciously shape our behavior on a day to day basis. A good leader value his family as much as his organization. I care about all the people in my organization peers and subordinates alike. The atmosphere in my work environment should feel like a family. It is vital to laugh and have fun while you doing your job. This is how you boost your Soldiers moral and motivation in your organization. As longest I have this value in my life I know I can better serve my organization.
Values are used to describe what you are most interested in and find to be appropriate, my top five values are: achievements, honesty, respect, loved, and family. To make achieve something can be a good thing, as in it can get you a step closer to where you want to get in life. Honesty fits into having achievements, to be honest, helping you out in a situation in which it would lead you in major achievements. I feel like to be honest with someone it gets you some leading advantage because you will get
The article I chose attempts to define a leader, the types of leaders, and the ways in which a person can be an excellent leader. The author, Tom Decotils, lists three types of leaders: An appointed leader or someone who is a leader in name, an accepted leader or a leader in practice, and an authentic leader. Decotils suggests that when obtaining a leadership role, one must strive to be an “authentic leader,” whose focus is on results by moving followers forward through teamwork and insisting on personal excellence. (Decotils, 2015, para. 1) Decotils states that an authentic leader has good intentions, grit, and a constant yearning for improvement. (Decotils, 2015, para. 5) Additionally, an authentic leader must have a good
Values are the traditions, ideals, goals that are believed to be important individually, as well as specific to groups and organizations (Burkhardt & Nathaniel, 2014). They are standards of behavior and the principles that guide us personally and professionally in the way we conduct ourselves in our personal and professional lives.
I personally value GOD, my well being, happiness, and integrity. All of these values shape how I live and conduct myself in interactions with others as well as how I operate as an business woman. My values keep me grounded so I am able to easily make decisions in the best interest of my family and myself. Everything I have accomplished in life truly goes back to what I value in life and how I was raised.
Values are the fundamental beliefs of a person, and they help guide us in making decisions and how we live our lives. Values are a part of our everyday life and in the workplace. In the workplace, these are the guiding principles that help to define how the corporation would behave. In this essay, the author will identify personal core values and discuss how we acquire and change values throughout life. Also will discuss what values do for us and the importance of values in the workplace.
Who comes to mind when you hear the word leader? Do you think of your president, your teammate, your classmate, your coach or even your teacher? How would you define their leadership? Everyone has their own definition of what a leader is or should be. There are many different leadership styles that one may need to share, or prefer to use, depending on the situation or what the leadership is used for, such as, a captain of a team is going to have different styles of leadership compared to a president of a country. To be a leader, one must guide and inspire with the use of words, but most importantly guide with actions. It is important as leader to be mindful of how actions set an example to those that they lead. If a leader says one thing,
The word ‘values’ is often used in our daily language. When we listen to someone that is talking about her or his values we understand that that person is talking about something that marks out what characterize her/his own concept of ‘what is important,
