Leadership plays an important role in organizational life and ultimately makes the difference between an effective and ineffective organization (McSweeney-Field & Oetjen, 2012). Each facility used different styles of leadership that contributed to the results of their study. In this scenario, the leaders in Facility B decided to use a democratic style of leadership. The utilization of this form of leadership allowed for the employees to work in a stress-free environment. With this type of leadership, it created a relationship between the employees and management that allowed for them to realize the importance of their roles in patient care. When the leadership and facility owners appreciate the staff and provide an environment for them to be happy, it also allows the staff to pass that happy energy onto to the patients/residents.
Facility B was able to create an environment that made the staff care not only about the patients but also for the facility in which they work. The staff took pride in making sure that all things equipment and structural details were up to par and in good condition. Being able to make the staff feel comfortable and appreciative helped improve patient care, team moral, steady employment rates and always receiving a passing test on their survey.
