Leadership Reflection Paper
Leadership truly begins with understanding your strengths and is a continual process of learning how to use those strengths to influence others (Griffiths, 2014). To understand leadership the word leader has to be examined. Webster describes a leader as a guide, a person who has commanding authority or influence. Additionally, a leader must possess specific qualities and characteristics to be classified a great leader. I will future delve into these qualities and characteristic as well as discuss my own personal leadership strengths and weaknesses.
Qualities and Characteristics of a leader
Great leaders should have certain skills and know how to stress specific characteristics to those around them. The characteristics that encompass a great leader are competitiveness, being a change agent, and communication.
Competitive
All great leaders are driven by competitiveness. Intuition drives this competiveness. Great leaders have a natural intuition that guides them through their decisions to succeed. Their decisions are based on past experience, confidence, and gut instinct. Another part of a great leader’s competitiveness is growing and improving. A function of growing is always learning and gaining knowledge that will give them the upper hand in business. Learning how to change others perspective is another aspect of being a great leader.

What qualities make great leaders? Well, to be a good leader, you have to be a good follower. Leaders are the people who are able to think and act under stress. They are the people who others look upon for guidance, support, and safety. There five important traits: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. To be self-aware is to understand the affect and impression one has on others. This leads to self-regulation, taking responsibility for actions and deeds. Effective leaders use motivation to drive others to accomplish a task by showing charisma and boosting morale. Common interest and bonds form within a team creating empathy for one another. And lastly, social
The most important characteristics an effective leader must have are: motivation, selflessness, and have an exemplary character. Many people might say these characteristics are not essential for a leader, but in order to be successful, a leader must think and care about others first rather than themselves. A leader must be passionate and motivated to help the people achieve their goals. A leader must want to lead the people at all times no matter what the circumstances are. A leader must have the ability to persuade others and give them hope whenever times get rough.
There are many qualities that make an excellent leader. One such trait is passion that leads to persistence. The more passion I have for an issue or problem, the less willing I am to give up on solving it. I will stick with it, even when the task may seem too challenging. My open-mindedness and patience are also beneficial attributes. If a leader is open to suggestion, his co-workers are more willing to listen his decisions. This is an important aspect of leadership. A leader is nothing without loyal followers. Finally, a leader must be innovative. If he is not able to come up with new ideas or creative ways to solve problems, he is limited in the amount of
Qualities of a Leader Everyone has their own ideas of what makes a leader, as I do. A leader is capable of inspiring, motivating and persuading people around them to commit willingly to work towards a specific idea. A leader has a clear vision and is able to see where they want to go and are able to communicate it clearly to their team. Some people say that some leaders are ‘naturally born’ while others state that being a leader does not come naturally, but can develop through encouragement from others, being inspired and by means of practice.
place. In the end, these three skills that make a great leader are just the beginning. People will have their own opinions about the qualities of what makes a leader great, and that’s great. Honestly, a good leader needs to have a lot of characteristics in order to lead people for something you believe in. As long as you have a goal in mind, good communication, courage, and initiative, you can become the leader that will help make a better change for your country and our
John Quincy Adams once said “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” There are many qualities that a person must have in order to be a great leader, if all he/she care about is power and control than they are not a great leader. A great leader is someone who is always looking towards the future. He/she has a plan and even when that plan may not be the most popular thing they stick with it and carry it out. A great leader is also always looking to better the society or the group he/she is in, he/she never gives up on making the world a better place and aren’t afraid to stick up for what he/she believes in. Another quality a great leader must have is being patient with his/her peers and always treating them with respect, he/she have to demonstrate a clear understanding of people and be able to understand and accommodate to a person’s needs. A great leader is always willing to put the needs of the group in front of his/her own and is willing to make sacrifices in order to better the society.
Great leaders take a firm stand for their followers, they never gives up on achieving their goals, they are dedicated and they push for excellent. They stay focus, they embrace the needs and wants of other people, they commit to people who stand with them, and those who are committed to them. People that are leader are normally well organized, considerate of others and will set the pace by example.
There are many things that make up a great leader, some are needed more than others. This is a list of what I think are the main traits you need to be a good leader and who had them. The characteristics I have chosen are courage, purpose, wise, good communicator, and motivational.
There are a number of traits necessary for being an effective leader. A good leader must be flexible and work well with others even if they do not agree with them. Also, leaders need to know how to convince people to work with each other. Negotiation is another key attribute of a good leader. A leader should also be able to come to a reasonable agreement that is mutually beneficial to all the parties.
Being a great leader takes more than one quality. To be a leader requires courage bravery social skills and intelligence.
There are some people who just have the drive to be better than others. Many qualities make up a good leader but a certain few stick out to me. A good leader should have a lot of courage to start with, they should be inspiring to other people, finally they should be good business people and give a lot to others.
Over the years, a great deal of time, and research has been dedicate to the study of leadership. Even with extensive data on the topic, many still disagree on what leadership really means. Hence, leadership is a word that has many different meanings and different researched theories associated with it. On a basic level, leadership involves having and establishing a clear vision, sharing that vision with followers, respecting followers, and leading an organization with excellence while ensuring that everyone is part of the team. Leadership is also a method by which a leader uses his or her influence towards getting a group of followers to take ownership or buy into a vision.
A leader is a person who guides a group with through a situation. A leader’s actions and words will determine his or her reputation as a leader. Good leaders possess similar characteristics, such as strong organizational skill, trustworthy, approachable and a visionary. A good leader has the ability to use his or her team members’ strengths to enhance a group’s productivity. Along with being able to successfully manage groups of people, a good leader must possess the ability to inspire, encourage, challenge and support the people around them. Under good leadership people will rise to challenge and surpass expectations.
This class Conflict Management and Negotiation for Leaders has helped me gain knowledge and experience that I can use in my professional and personal life, which I did not have before. I am currently in the Masters of HealthCare Administration program here at Ohio Dominican University and opted to replace my practicum experience with this course. The course allowed for hands on experience where we were able to negotiate with multiple students in our class. In doing so, I was presented with scenarios that we may have faced in the past or could be presented with in the future. This course brought to the surface how often we do negotiate in our everyday lives. With that being said, I am currently in the market for a new position within my company and may be in transition to a newly developed role. If that does not happen I will be seeking opportunity elsewhere, hopefully in the healthcare field. In this paper, I will discuss how I will use the information learned in this class and apply it to make the decision on changing my role at my current employer, or elsewhere as well as better prepare me for future negotiations.
In class, so far, we have discussed many different topics about leadership. One being different leadership theories. The one that I feel most represents the leader I want to be in the future is servant leadership. When we discussed servant leadership it was defined as this leadership model is based on the leader and the followers wanting to serve others. Basically, this means the servant leader you put your focus on the needs of others before your own. The followers goal is to serve clients and the leader’s goal is to serve the employee and implement the organization mission statement. The leader supports other employees by noticing their goals and provide the proper support to help them reach those goals. This
