Let’s Legalize Gay Marriage Gay marriage is a right. Heterosexual couples are allowed to enjoy all the marriage benefits, so why shouldn’t same-sex couples be able to? Why should other people be able to choose who marries who? If a man and a woman get married, no one seems to care. Gay marriage should be legal because it’s an issue of equal rights, it would save society money, and it will increase the chances for foster children to be adopted into loving families. Same-sex marriage is an issue of equal rights. All human beings should be treated equally and allowed the same options. So allowing gay couples to wed would promote equality for everyone and break this barrier we have between heterosexuals and homosexuals. Straight couples …show more content…
Since the couple’s combined income would be more, the marriage penalty tax would create more revenue than individually taxing two adults. Every year more and more states are legalizing same sex marriage because it can boost struggling state economies. So far 17 US states, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington have legalized gay marriage. Basically speaking, more weddings equal more money. There are thousands of foster children who are in need of loving, caring families. Legalizing gay marriage would allow more chances for these children to be adopted. Gays and lesbians makes great parents because they are planned for and truly wanted. There are many heterosexual parents who feel the same way about their children, but homosexual couples don’t have the problems of accidental pregnancies and situations like that. About 4% of the adopted population, about 65,000 live in same-sex households. There are an estimated 523,000 children in foster care in the United States. If gay marriage was legal in every state of the USA, the chances for foster children to be adopted would increase. Children who do have gay parents are more likely to be more open-minded than other children. “Studies show that children raised by gay and lesbian parents are as emotionally and socially healthy as children of heterosexual parents”(Martin). “The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights
Gay marriage should be legal because as woman and man, all individuals have the same right in society; because same-sex couples can constitute a good based family; because it is just a way to make official a common union nowadays, even with the religious issue; because it is not related to polygamy; and because love matters and it does not differ in nature according to the sex of its object or the person who experiences it.
Same sex marriages have both pros and cons. With this issue, it seems society is more concerned about the physical and moral issues behind it. Same sex partners are trying to seek the same benefits as heterosexual couples. By keeping the DOMA in effect in all states, same sex partners will be
Same-sex marriage should be marriage because everyone is equal, love is always right, and people have a right to choose their own soulmates. First, equality is a basic right, which means everyone should get the same treatment. The restriction against same-sex marriage is an offense to the dignity of lesbians and gays, because it limits the range of relationship options open to them (Mello). The limit of same-sex marriage is against homosexuals to enjoy the same right as heterosexuals. It is not fair for homosexual to get the different treatment. There is a law to declare that legalizing homosexual marriage is to achieve the basis of equality come true. (Albertson).
Over 70% of the country agrees that gay couples should not be allowed to wed. Many have religious beliefs that God made men and women to marry and procreate. Some feel uncomfortable with the idea of two men being attracted to each other as well as two women being attracted to each other. Society has formed the idea that marriage is to be between a man and a woman so seeing anything different seems unnatural to some. However, many of these people are closed minded to the idea of gay marriage because it is different from their own personal lifestyle.
I support same-sex marriage because I see no valid arguments against it. The majority of arguments against gay marriage are based on religious perspective. In the United States, the First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees separation of church and state. Therefore, religion should not have a place in either the formulation or implementation of legislation, including questions of who has the right to get married in this country.
Additionally, the wedding industry is set to benefit as it would get business in the industry with a large market access. Legalization of the same-sex marriage has seen an injection of nearly US$260 million into the state economy. The economy also benefits from gay marriage tourism by attracting gay couples from other states and countries where same-sex marriage is illegal. In states where same-sex marriage is permitted, businesses understand that it is important to recognize gay marriage since it makes it possible to retain gay customers and
4. Gay marriage allows both gay partners to have equal rights and they get access to the benefits for married couples. Earlier, gay couples could not enjoy any of those since they were not even recognized as couples by the state or country. The couple is able to access all of the same marital benefits as their straight counterparts. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) couples who are able to marry can receive the same tax breaks that straight couples do and are also able to adopt children. Married LGBT couples can access the same assistance as heterosexual couples and are afforded the same amount of protection
Same-sex couples should be able to have the same benefits as hetersexual couples since there are 1,138 benefits rights and protections that married couples automatically receive once married. Also, taking these rights away from them will make things unfair. You might think, “Who says that we have to be fair?” Well the bible, the bible says to treat everybody fairly. With that, a huge amount of homophobes are christian since what they believe in is god and he made a man and a women. But, he also said to treat people fairly. If that's not enough, equality is a big protest all around the world and not allowing these people the rights and protections of marriage could not only lead to homosexual anger it could lead to anger all around the United
It will foster acceptance of gay couples and individuals, as well as completely eliminating the negative impact marriage inequality has on the health and wellbeing of same-sex attracted people, and increase the amount of children successfully adopted.
Studies continue to demonstrate that people who marry tend to be better off with financial and medical health. One of the most important aspects of gay marriage is that it establishes legal rights for couples which makes it easier for people to make social and legal commitments for one another. Most of the rights and privileges that go with marriage are the ways spouses can support one another. Married couples are in a better circumstance together than unmarried couples allowing the ability for those relationships to develop stronger and deeper
Marriage provides both physical and psychological health benefits and banning gay marriage increases rates of psychological disorders. The American Journal of Public Health found that after their states had banned gay marriage they had a 37% increase in mood disorders, a 42% increase in alcohol- use disorders, and a 48% increase in generalized anxiety disorders. Banning gay marriage is against the constitution. It’s protected by Constitutions commitments to liberty and equality. The US supreme court ruled in 1974s Cleveland Board of
Same-sex marriages have been very controversial since becoming an issue in Canada regarding the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Several people state that same-sex marriages should be legal, while others disagree, saying it should not be permitted. There have been many debates and inquiries about this issue for several years; the MP’s and Parliament will finally settle the problem within the next year or so. Many are in favour of legalizing same-sex marriages in all of Canada due to the violations and infringes upon the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Problems revolving around same-sex marriages have upset many religious groups. These groups believe that same-sex
Same sex marriage has been widely looked down upon for ages. People say, “It’s not the traditional constitutional marriage”, or “Children need a mother and a father”. It honestly doesn’t matter. If two people love each other, they should be allowed to marry. It’s just as simple as that. What other reason do you need? If two complete strangers of the same sex want to be together for the rest of their lives, we should let them.First, denying some people to marry is discriminatory. Judge Sarah Zabel of Miami-Dade Circuit Court ruled the gay marriage ban of Florida unconstitutional. She stated that it, “serves only to hurt, to discriminate, to deprive same-sex couples and their families of equal dignity, to label and treat them as 2nd class citizens, and to deem them unworthy of participation in one of the fundamental institutions of our society.” In other words, you’re looking down upon same sex couples that want to get married as if they’re lower than you; that they don’t deserve the same rights as us. Same sex couples would be able to enjoy the same benefits as heterosexual couples if they were able to be married.Furthermore, the General Accounting Office made an assessment in 2004 about the benefits that heterosexual married couples have that same sex couples could not. Some of these benefits include hospital visitation during an illness and the option of filing a joint tax return to reduce a tax burden. Imagine not being able to see your significant other in the hospital
