The book of James is not very tidy when it comes to fitting into any of the other genres of literature. Some consider it to more of a circular rather than an epistle and it is quite possible that both Paul and Peter had read the Epistle of James, at least there are several coincidences between them.7 Because it was written to such a broad audience and because it contains many references to the Old Testament, James hardly fits into any category very neatly. This a particular point that I feel needs to be addressed when trying to understand James, and it is a point I will answer further while also trying to present information regarding other possible questions an individual may have while reading

The second argument is that the referral to apostolic teachings (“the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ”) would make the writing be of a late date, which would not be true if the half-brother of Jesus was writing this book. The third, and final argument is that Jude did not state he is the brother of Jesus. Jude’s role as ‘a servant of Christ’ gave his letter more authority than being the ‘brother of Christ.’ None of the arguments against Jude, the brother of James, the half-brother of Jesus are strong enough not believe the claim made in scripture.
