Good Day Col. Morris,
Thank you, in advance, for taking the time to read my letter and consider my request.
With regard to the subject of Interns being allowed to telework, as requested, I will be supplying some relevant pros and cons. I have an awareness of some of the obvious concerns, and intend to address each of them, in turn.
I do understand and acknowledge that, as Interns, our primary purpose is to experience OJT (on the job training). We may miss out on some face to face instructional time if we were to telework. I assert that, learning how to telework is itself a valuable skill to be learned and will be an important, if not integral, part of our OJT experience. From my perspective being set up for and knowing how to telework

We have had previous work experience, our ages range from the 20’s to the 50’s, while I do agree that the traditional internship experience is truly beneficial for the traditional student in their initial work assignment, most of us are of an age and experience level to have already benefited from that …show more content…
Many Interns are working full time at ISEC, performing the same duties as other non-Intern employees. Because of that, Recent Graduate Interns qualify for full benefits. Interns deal with the same day to day life issues as anyone else. For example, a contagious illness or an injury which, although preventing an in-office work day, does not necessitate work stoppage, if working from home is an option. Under normal circumstances an Intern would need to take leave, and miss work. They would have to pass off their work to somebody else, who likely knows less about the project subject matter. If he/she could telework the Intern could support their current mission and continue to work and stay in contact with their management team. Many employees enjoy health and fitness. If an intern had the ability to telework he/she could go on a run, lift weights, or do yoga and not need the extra time to drive to a gym, and shower if they are already home. Interns that have commutes of an hour or more can shave two hours off their time and dedicate that to their training and their projects. Within the Intern population at ISEC FDED, the benefit of teleworking would easily increase moral in the work force and increase our retain rate of new employees, with no cost to the organization. Productivity has been shown to increase, with the increased work-life
Beyond getting an insider’s look at their future job, interns and apprentices also gain valuable industry connections they can use to land a job upon graduation.
An internship can also heighten the awareness of community issues, motivates to create opportunities, embrace new ideas, and give direction to positive change. A successful internship can provide valuable information in making decisions about the direction of future studies or employment. An internship is an opportunity to not only use and develop industry-related knowledge and skills, but also to enhance some of the skills that are transferable to any professional work setting. For some people, the internship is the first introduction to the world of work. No matter where the skills and understanding of professionalism lie, internship is a chance to develop them even further.
Recently there has been a growing request for options to telework/telecommute in various departments within the company. I recommend the Human Resource department adopt a policy that will include procedures for selection criteria, approval of planned schedule, work, or project, and managerial oversight. To meet the needs of our employees we recognize having more flexibility in work schedules will alleviate work and family conflict by adopting a policy around telecommuting (Pynes, 2014, pg 265). Having a formal policy in place will minimize any misuse of this perceived benefit and will ensure all requests are considered fairly.
Working in the ITS field, we have been asked to research the plausibility of allowing our 600+ employees the ability to telework. Currently half of our managers have the ability to work from home. With this ability we have security concerns, but we also have the expectation to be available to work no matter what the time of day is or how the weather is outside. When the credit union is closed for snow day’s managers with the ability to
Employers allow telecommuting for many reasons, including the ability to recruit better talent, decrease overhead expenses, increase productivity, expand the employee base to include those with disabilities (Anderson, Bricout & West, 2001; Lipin, 2010; Myungjung & So Hee, 2017), and to support
In the 1990s Telecommuting became popular. (“Wikipedia”, n.d., para.1) It allowed a way for employers to have workers that still accomplished the day to day task necessary to run a business and also allowed employee’s to work without traveling into a dedicate office building or store. In today’s society, I have noticed that there are more job posting for software developers in the United States that offer working remotely versus working at an office building. The purpose of the dissertation is to find out the habits and work ethics of successful remote workers so that a hiring manager could target those traits while interviewing potential candidates for telecommuting work.
Students receive on-the-job experience prior to graduation, and the internship assists them in obtaining permanent employment. Facilities benefit from the opportunity to participate in and improve the formal education process. Quite often, students who complete professional practice experiences are later employed by the facility at which they completed the internship.
Internship is a period of work experience offered by an employer to give people (usually college students and graduates) exposure to the working environment. It gives them an opportunity to get first-hand experience. The growing need for practical learning led to the emergence of internship. It helps to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. Internships in any form- paid, unpaid or co-operative learning has now become a standard practice for college students. It has

The internship, even though it includes actual operation of the facilities of the employer, is similar to training which would be given in an educational environment;
I usually do not telework. I always liked coming into the office, but I’m very thankful to work for a company who offers and encourage their employees to take advantage of this great program. The flexible work schedule could not have come at a better time. It does feel good though to back in the office to see all of my fellow coworkers.
* Everyone is not cut out to be a remote worker. People who are self-starters, savvy with the computer and do not have many distractions are prone to do well with a telecommuting job. When interviewing someone for this position. It should be emphasized that distractions will not be tolerated. Also employees should have a place that is dedicated for their office.
An internship is an opportunity for practical work experience in a researcher’s chosen field of study. This training provides you with hands-on learning outside of the classroom. This training offers students:
One aspect that I enjoyed least about my internship was on somedays my job was to be a telemarketer and call local area businesses. It is safe to say I am not the greatest when it comes to pick up the phone and calling random businesses to try and sale products. I enjoy face-to-face communication where I can personally be one-on-one with an individual. It is difficult sometimes because you cannot read what the person is trying to say based on their tone of
