LGBT people have been mistreated for a long time now and it remains to be a thorn in the side of the U.S. With that being said, the thorn doesn’t seem to be big enough for the U.S to take action. Statistics from Human Rights Campaign, the biggest LGBT civil rights advocacy group that has support from influential people such as Katy Perry, tell a lot. It shows that 4 in 10 LGBT youth (42%) say the community in which they live in is not accepting LGBT people. This is something that should not happen as just imagine what the young people that are excluded are thinking. They are most likely very insecure with their sexual orientation as the threat of negative comments scares them. A kind of problem as this shouldn’t be one as people all over the world should be more open to LGBT ideas and it should start in marriage, work, and school. People are also resorting to violence against LGBT people just because of their choices. Statistics from HRC say that LGBT youth are twice as likely to be physically assaulted. There aren’t any laws or type of enforcement being taken to help these kind of people. In addition to that, people already in school don’t feel welcome enough to open their true selves. Statistics from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, says that homosexuals having sex in the span of three years increased from 57.6 percent to 61.2 percent also caused a trend of condom usage going down from 69.6 percent to 60 percent overall.
