There are respectable and depraved parents all over the world. More and more everyday people see how cruel parents can be to their children. All over society kids become abused. Even mistreated and neglected by their parents. It does raise eyebrows, but that doesn’t necessarily mean parents should need to get a license to parent their kids. First, if the government implemented a law that required parents all over the nation to require a license to parent, people would break the law left and right. Some parents might not want to obtain a license because it might go against their morals. This would result in the government creating penalties for families not wanting to obtain a license. Penalties like the government-taking babies from their
Not only would this determine the competence of a parent on a test, but it would create an exact process to how to be a parent. The large amount of parents would be overwhelming to government agencies and undocumented children and pregnancies would go either unnoticed or undocumented. Every child is different and requires separate rules and boundaries from other siblings and other families; this cannot be regulated on a test. Parenting is a learned process as many parents become parents expectantly. This new regulation would significantly increase the prevalent of abortions and fetal homicides as a quick answer to unplanned pregnancies and the paperwork that goes along with it.
parents are treated harshly by their peers when the truth of the matter is less so.
There are many problems with abusing and neglecting children besides the obvious reason, hurting the kids.
In this essay, I will talk about why it is okay for the government to required that all parents should be licensed first. And I will examine Hugh LaFollete’s article on “Licensing Parents” which was published in Philosophy and Public Affairs in Winter, 1980. Furthermore, I will also discuss another argument that support the idea of “licensing parents” and answer one of the counterargument against the idea of licensing parenting. According to Independent news article, In October 2017, mother accused of killing her four-year-old son by setting him on fire in bathtub. This case is a clear example of how not everybody is ready to be a parent. Not everybody has the mental stability, the patience, and the knowledge that is required to raise a child. This is just one of the many incidents that occurs. Majority of people think that they have the right to procreate and raise children and that is the most important right they have, and it should not be taken away from them. They also think that it is hard for the government to deny their citizens the right to be parent. At the same time, most people think that there are some
It was the parents/caretakers responsibility to take care of the child and supervise him/her. The parent is responsible for teaching the child what is right and what is wrong. They shouldn’t let their kids go off and do whatever they desire because children, like stated previously,
Another sad aspect about child abuse is that the people who commit child abuse are not always the parents. In this instance, the mothers of several children gave permission for two strangers
Child neglect and abuse has gone on for a numerous amount of years, there are three different types of child abuse such as emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. People have been trying to change things to make a difference to protect children from abusers. Children haven't been able to receive the protection they need to stay safe from these offenders because some people argue that offenders have rights, and that some of the laws and new regulations violate these offenders rights and privacy. These people are taking a priority to offenders rights first, when they should be thinking about the children's rights and prioritizing their needs. Offenders have already abused and basically taken away the rights from children when these abusers have
In the essay Licensing Parents, LaFollette argues that the state should require all parents to be licensed (182). Though LaFollette considers some theoretical and practical objections to his claim, he gives no particular attention to how an activity could be precisely defined as potentially harmful to others, what specific competence would be required for an activity to be done safely, and how reliably such competence could be determined. In this paper, I will argue that the difficulty of clearly defining the three criteria for an activity to be licensed undermines LaFollette’s assertion that parenting ought to be licensed. After describing LaFollette’s basic rationale for licensing parents, I will indicate that parenting may not meet the
The idea of requiring a license to have children at this time would have no chance of being implemented at this point in time. There are many objections and seemingly insurmountable obstacles that would be nearly impossible to circumvent. With the rapid advancements in technology as well as the evolving points of view of people throughout the country and around the world it is not impossible to think that this may be a viable option at some point in the future.
They strive to be the best they can be, in order to have the best. But, it is sad when they do not realize how much is too much. Usually a small mistake is looked over, but these parents’ can potentially have long term effects on their child’s behavior. If their child happens to not become mentally ill and seeks love, they might have a hard time showing it. If they wish to seek their own family, they will also have a hard time showing love towards their children. This is all due to the lack of a great role model in their life. Additionally, they ruin the opportunity for great, childhood memories to talk about later in life. Hopefully in the future, there can be enough awareness raised consisting of this matter that it will not be in existence
It could be assumed that those with a criminal background have the potential to hurt children, but this is a specific group of people that have committed a specific crime. While this is a bad way to go about this, the law has been put into place to reduce the likelihood of those people relapsing on the crime they have done in the past. It is a way to protect children, therefore comes from a good set of ethics. Children cannot protect themselves, therefore, they need someone looking out for them. In the end, it allows parents to have a greater peace of mind when their kids run out to the street with their hard-earned quarters following the alluring
In Hugh Lafollette’s paper “Licensing Parents” he talks about the need for government licensing of parents. His argument states that for any activity that is harmful to others, requires competence, and has a reliable procedure for determining competence, should require licensing by the government. This argument relates to parenting because it can be harmful to children, requires competence to raise children, and we can assume that a reliable procedure can be formulated. Therefore, parenting should require licensing by the government. I agree with Lafollette and shall focus on supporting him by addressing the most practical objections: “There is no reliable procedure for identifying competent
Defining child abuse can mean different things to different people all around the world. This means that it is the society in which we live that comes to a broad agreement about acceptable or unacceptable behaviour towards children. Our society is not a homogeneous culture where the same values are shared by everyone, what is usual family life for one group of people will be far from usual for
Kids being maltreated and parents getting licenses to be a parent. Kids that have been verabally abused or physically have been known for their personality to change and for them to think less of their self, thinking that its their fault. Children that have been abused in any way sometimes become bullies and treat people how they’ve been treated at home, they can be involved in violent activites and in extreme cases, crime. Do you think a kid should live the way they do? A normal family, no arguments? A kid that is age 10 being knocked on the side of the head for not folding his clothes properly?
Inarguably, parents are one of the, if not the most, influential factors in young people’s mental health. For example, Dr.Robert Young, a psychologist, analyzed the children’s perception of parenting and their mental health, and the result showed that children who perceived their parents as “being controlling or neglectful” had an increase in the probability of a psychiatric disorder at age 15 (Young). According to another study, hopelessness had a positive association with both suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. Psychologically controlling parenting, such as treating a child differently for disagreeing with parents, had a positive association with suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and hopelessness (Li).
