School is one of things that students hate and is a big stress factor for them. Did you know that So then homework should be restricted for all high school students as this would improve working productivity, social life and physical health. To start with, if homework is banned for all secondary school scholars, their productivity would drastically improve. The teachers teaching the courses would easily . If they must work at school, they would be monitored, causing for them to work to be mandatory. Just last year, 87 percent of students in high school were proclaimed procrastinates. Moreover, if homework is banned, work would be done in class and any questions and help would be easily reached for students as, teachers are close by at …show more content…
Students have to use their leisure time in order to do their homework and in that leisure time, some students may pass their dinner time or even skip their dinner to finish their homework. From that reason, homework is a health problem and it would be solved with homework banned. Furthermore, with homework interfering the students physical health, some students must stay up late to finish their work since there are a lot of subjects’ homework to be done which decreases their mental capacity and thinking. According to an article in 2010 by Alina Saminsky, she said, “Over 50% of high school students report that they sleep seven hours or less each night, and about one in five get less than six hours. And 82% of both middle and high school students said that they woke up tired and unrefreshed, and more than half had trouble concentrating in school.” Also, when students are in high school, there is a lot of work to be done, and that causes a lot work to be carried on the backs’ of these students and this would cause many back related problems. According to Rebecca Smith, Medical Editor, in 2012 she said, “A study of 1403 students aged between 12 and 17 found a quarter suffered from back-pain which lasted for more than 15 days.” Continuing, she said that two thirds of them had backpacks weighing ten percent of their body weight and even fifteen
By not giving out homework, students will work harder in class and have better grades. Teachers have to understand that if students are tired from late nights, they wouldn't be able to work efficiently during the day. In addition, students would be much more excited to come to school because they know they wouldn't have to worry about getting any homework. In 2010, a survey was taken and it showed that about 70% of teen ages 11 to 17 get less than 8 hours of sleep per day due to the amount of homework they have to do (Logos). According to Alfie Kohen, students feel forced to do their homework, therefore they aren't learning as much as they should (Ethos). Students lose interest in the topic and do not benefit from what they’re learning. In China, a cry for change by a mother who lost her thirteen year old daughter who committed suicide due to her inability to achieve in math, the mother considers homework is a huge negative factor toward her deceased daughter's tragic ending along with the pressure of society (Pathos). Such a story should leave us wondering, how many more children need to suffer the silent epidemic of school stress. Statistics prove the leading cause for the majority of physical and emotional complaints leading up to diagnosis of depression in middle and high school due to the amount of
Students should not have homework because teachers have seven hours in the day to teach in the day that should be plenty of time to teach us in the day for whatever we need to learn and homework gets in the way of people’s sports. Students also have to stay up late at night to finish their homework and that might cause kids to have sleeping problems and then they wont work as hard in class because they are
However, I still believe that the school should stop homework from being assigned and this is why. In source 3 "Down with Homework", it reads that studies show how homework isn't the cause of a higher grade score or academics of a student. This is because there is no support that homework helps with students of a small age.
Due to the fact, kids already go to school for eight hours and their brains shut down, causing health complications, too much homework can affect test scores, and kids have outside events, family, sports, church, and jobs to worry about. Some people agree with the idea of forcing teachers to have a limit on homework and some believe it has a beneficiary effect on students. But the negative effects are more damaging long-term.Than the benefits of it long-term. By limiting the amount of homework, given to students can increase the overall performance of the student and will leave them physically/mentally healthy. It will also give the children the chance to not miss out on the bonding time with family and friends. A happy child is a happy life for
High school students feel more stress than working adults, and children are beginning to feel aversion towards learning. Both adolescents and children are at risk of health issues due to anxiety and less time is spent with family, playing, and sleeping. The cause for all of this is too much homework that is suffocating students. Homework causes students to sleep less, have more stress, and even forces students to give up extracurricular activities. These negative results can be improved by reducing the homework load.
Have you ever wondered why students get so much homework, and if we can help them get less? Well, I'm right there with you, and that is why I'm going to persuade the teachers that students should have a limit on their homework. There should be a limit so that students can enjoy their life and be more relaxed. This will also allow the students to have more time to get involved with activities that will help them learn skills that are not taught in school. These are just a few things that a limit on homework will do.
No homework ever again? That would be nice. But, perhaps it’s possible. There are many problems with homework that, if addressed, could persuade school boards to get rid of homework for good. Homework has a negative effect on middle school and high school students because it limits their free time, keeps them up at night, and discourages out of school activities.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get home, study a little, and just relax? Well most students have to deal with hours of homework when they get home from school. When I get home, I would rather do a little homework, relax, and spend time with my family. Not spend the rest of the day doing homework, when you already have 7 hours of school. I believe that giving homework is crucial to students who want to have a life outside of school.
Everyday kids are sent home with lots of work, all night they stay up doing their homework to the point where kids are getting too tired to focus on school! We should get rid of homework in schools! There are three big reasons why. Children are overtired, parents are exasperated and usually end up finishing kids homework for them, and finally, the kids are having a hard time coping with time management skills. We need to get rid of this outdated homework policy!
Do you think homework is stressful for students? Some people think that homework is good for kids and helps them learn more yet others think homework brings down the student’s grade down and stresses them out. I strongly believe that we, the students should be given little to no homework because most homework pages are thrown away and paper is wasted. Also homework stresses most kids out. Lastly homework should be given less because the chore of homework can lower the grades of students.
In closing, the banning of distribution of homework in schools should not be permitted. Homework is a necessary tool to keep in schools due to its benefits including: Development in life skills, all the way to improvement in academic achievement. Overall, homework is an extension of in-school opportunities to learn, a teacher of valuable characteristics and habits, and a taxi on the academic road to success. After presenting the facts and studies to support homework being beneficial to schools, one should be able to see why the negation argument of banning the instructional tool is
Studies show that only eight percent of High school students get enough sleep each night. The other 92% are living with borderline-to-serious sleep deficits that could lead to daytime drowsiness, depression, headaches and poor performance at school. “The natural sleep-wake pattern shifts during adolescence, making earlier bedtime and wake times more difficult. The result for students with early school start-times is a chronic sleep deficit” (Most High School Students Are Sleep Deprived. 1) This shows that the claim, Students shouldn’t have more than two and a half hours of homework a night because if they have more than that it will affect their health. If you have too much homework, it can cause your sleep habits to be different which affects your
Although homework benefits students in their education, it should be banned from all schools. Students should not have homework because it causes too much stress on them. The children come home from a long day of school wanting to relax, instead they are up all night trying to complete their homework. Homework is taking away too much time in students day leaving them no time for them to participate in activities or even spend time with their family. Students are only children for a short period of time in their lives they should be able to enjoy it when they are
The majority of students have, at one point or another, wished for less homework. For some student’s homework is not a big issue but for other students it can take hours and even days to do all their homework. That wasted time could be used for enjoyment or learning life skills instead of homework. Nine in ten high school students reported feeling stressed about homework (Galloway 4). So, should students get less homework? Yes, students should receive less homework because it improves their well-being by reducing stress and its impacts on health, increasing leisure time, and showing that homework does not affect grades significantly.
Students, parents, teachers, administrators and other interested parties all seem to have strong and different feelings towards homework. Students complain that they have too much homework to complete outside of the hours they already attended classes. Students feel that they have personal lives to live and blow off homework while some parents and teachers believe that homework is the key to passing classes and preparation for college. This leads to teachers feeling pressured to push their students to succeed and this can easily get carried away. Parents and school systems still often discuss the topic of homework today. Should homework in school systems be stopped?
