I really appreciate your concern of the safety for the employees that you are responsible for. A lot of times individuals are so task focused and they are concerned with wanting to get things done, that they will sometimes jeopardize safety. Many employees that have repetitious assignments that they complete everyday, are so comfortable with the process that, they have to be reminded of the dangers associated with the job. I can also tell that you have passion for managing people, by you responding that you listen and take the advice to heart. Trust me it is very important when you take the time to consult with the person who is the lowest on the organizational chart. Sometimes just listening to a person, increases their sense of value and
There are many other jobs that need to ensure Health and Safety is important and some of these are: landlords, contractors, emergency services, trade union representatives and consultants. They have to make sure Health and Safety is an important role whilst doing their job as they don’t just have to think about themselves and the people who work for them, they also have to consider the people who are putting their trust in them to help them.
Outcome 1 – Understand own responsibilities, and the responsibilities of others, relating to health and safety in the work setting
Training should be given in such a way that hazardous situations can be avoided. For example: Lengthening of working day, removal of taking screening breaks etc for meeting deadlines should be avoided. You must ensure that the significant hazards are identified, and that the actual working practices are addressed and if need be, changed so as to reduce any risk. This is both the responsibility of the employer and employee, for example it is the employees responsibility to familiarise themselves with the hazards and risks in their workplace.
Safety on the job should always be the main priority for this company, complying with laws regarding safety can save the company lots of money. Training our employee that safety is our top priority can be the difference between major success or failure. At Jones Feed and Seed we need to makes sure as we are hiring a supervisor that they are tediously trained all safety issues
Ability to communicate with patients confidently – By constantly being around and talking to residents, patients and nurses in the retirement homes I have been able to develop great communication skills. This skill would be extremely helpful during medical training when working with real patients.
Everyone in my company must comply with the health and safety procedure. We have to go on mandatory training to complete our health and safety certificate. This includes manual handling and fire safety. We must make sure our work environment is a safe as we can make it. If any accidents do occur i have to report them to my office or to the out of hours office, I must also record all accidents in the communication book so that other carers know what has happened this includes the nature of the accident, treatment received and where and when it happened. If any health and safety rules or procedures are breached then this may become a disciplinary for care staff. My line manager will always advise all care staff on and health and safety concerns that we may have.
Hi Alva, I found some similar awkward moments as well. When talking to people that I am familiar with, they tend to have expectations with respect to how much I talk and how much I listen. A sharp change in my communication style did cause a lot of surprises, and these surprises interrupted our presumed communication pace. Since I could be quite talkative as well, when I started doing more listening and less talking, family and friends were not used to it. I think it might be a good idea to practice these listening tips with strangers or people who we are less familiar with.
Safety is an important function of our daily lives and requires the same attention we give other functions and processes within our daily job routines. Over the years as we continue to do our jobs and the same processes we can become less safe by using short cuts to make a process easier for ourselves. Also, the equipment we use begins to age and breakdown and cause unsafe conditions. Safety professionals use many different types of safety programs to combat safety related issues or problems one may encounter on a job site. Employee involvement is the most important part of any safety program. Without employee involvement safety programs are not as successful, because employees are sometimes not aware of the process and steps in place to protect them.
So, plan effectively it is important and place the best techniques for training and motivating staff to work safely into practice.
I was not taught any health and safety at my workplace until I asked however I would have asked earlier in the week but my immediate supervisor was on vacation. I called my immediate supervisor Dahlia Nicholson on Wednesday October 18, 2017 to go over some health and safety information at 2:00pm as I was informed by Michael Day, my other supervisor that Dahlia would be back on this day. I met Dahlia at her office where we had a brief conversation about health and safety and what to do when I am injured at the workplace. In addition Dahlia gave me some tips and instructions on what to do when I spot out a hazard in the workplace. For instance, if I see a telephone or any wire lying around I am not to approach it and then I must inform one of
Accidents in the workplace is a serious issue, and you pay dearly if an employee is injured or killed due to an unsafe or dangerous working environment, especially when it's caused by company negligence. You and your management team must understand the laws surrounding the safety of the workplace, and put education training in place for "what if" situations that protects your employees and
It's highly unlikely, regardless of how good you are as a key account manager, that you will never face the prospect of an unhappy customer in one of your key accounts. Issues happen. There are always aspects that are out of your personal control, so being prepared to deal with one of your key customer's unhappiness ahead of time is well advised. In the heat of the moment is not when you want to strategically try to come up with a plan to diffuse your customer as quickly as possible.
“Our Duty to People demands a safe and healthy work environment (Zukunft)” Duty to People is one of the Commandants three guiding principles that addresses work place safety as a top priority. In District Seven, Unit Safety Coordinator’s (USC) are not properly trained in eliminating work place hazards. Unit Safety Coordinators are ill-equipped to perform their duties because of the limited seats available for the Unit Safety Coordinator course, no in-depth training for their responsibilities and the lack of training on how to use the Health, Safety & Work-Life Service Center to enter critical unit information. The importance for USC’s to attend the Unit Safety Coordinator Course cannot be overstated.
Based on the Listening Skills Assessment, I have room for improvement in my listening skills. If you were John's manager, I would you counsel him to improve his listening skills by first explaining what it is and how important it is to become an active listener. Effective listening is not a passive undertaking. Rather, to properly perceive what is being said in a conversation requires that people focus on what is being said, block out distractions, concentrate, watch for nonverbal cues, and apply both experience and intuition. In other words, people need to learn to listen assertively (Goetsch & Davis, 2013). Learning to listen helps to block barriers that may have been created over time. As a member of management it is important to teach your
This commitment from the top management is crucial to the success of any program, especially safety. Employees that observe managers disregarding or not reporting safety violations, create an environment where safety will be disregarded at all levels.
