Literature Review
Teamwork is generally considered as the willingness of a group of people to work together to achieve a common aim. Teams play a major role in our lives. Working in groups is probably an inevitable life experience. Teams are everywhere: in educational places, workplaces, and neighborhood. This review will focus on three themes which emerge repeatedly throughout the literature reviewed. These themes are: student’s benefits from learning in groups, the importance of teamwork skills in work and school, and teamwork as a key to success for teachers and paraeducators.
Teamwork has a big amount of advantages which can be got by every member of the team. The article “Student’s benefits from learning in groups” (n.d.) illustrates the positive sides of group working and things that should be done in order to achieve benefits. Harvard publishes a guide to working in teams, with information significant to both tutors and students. Methods are the following: organizing the work and managing team activities; including everyone and their ideas; leading the group and focusing on a direction. As Hartley and Robson assert (1999, as cited

The article by Elrick (2015) has the same argument about effectiveness of group work, specifically at school and workplace. Profitable teamwork and collaboration not only help with completing tasks but can also open your eyes to new ideas and widen your outlook. As Wagner (2015) asserts, students preparing for future careers will find that skills obtained in college can support cooperation attributes that are very much required at places of employment; they also gain experience and learn how to advise. Moreover, the writer claims that knowledge and technical skills are not enough, not being willing to collaborate can be a red flag for an employer. Consequently, there is no school or workplace without teamwork because it leads to benefit and
Team work in schools is important as it’s a development not only for you but also for others. It helps to build a positive relationship with those that are within your team, as well as showing that there is support for one another within the structure. When there is team work, responsibilities and tasks are shared and are completed more effectively and also in a good time scale. Each member or person has their own skill and or expertise, communicating with them helps you to learn, build up your own knowledge and know your own responsibilities. Communication is an invaluable tool in team work; you can ask for advice or even give advice about certain subjects or topics, as well as
This plays a part in your classroom also. When the teacher says to work in a group then everyone needs to play a part in getting the work done instead of one person doing it. Also when you use team work you have a better chance of getting your assignments right the first time. This is also where communication plays a part in teamwork. You have to be able to communicate with your group and express your opinions and ideas effectively.
One of the more important skills students will learn outside the classroom is teamwork. This quality can not be taught it must be learned by experience. Members will be on teams to compete in competitions. Students must learn the limits and strengths of their team member if they wish to succeed. This skill prepares students for the team work assignments which will be required in classes, as well as in everyday
In many aspects of life, it is essential that you work with other individuals as a team. You can work in a team whether it is school, work, or your personal life. This year I started working for Inner City Education Foundation public charter schools, specifically ICEF Inglewood Elementary Academy. The school has approximately 40 staff members that were all placed together by the director of the school. There are multiple classifications at my job such as instructional assistants, teachers, office staff, intervention specialists, operations, and janitors, but we all operate as one unit. Through the five stages of team development, our team developed and continues to develop into a successful team.
Society has been evolving as of late. Individual work is no longer encouraged and has been labeled “out of fashion” (14). Environments like school, work, and religious institutions have been implementing teamwork as of late. The idea is that teamwork allows the transfer of ideas from person to person, but at the same time allowing
Since much of our time is spend in groups, it is helpful to work in groups because it will give an opportunity to improve their human functioning. Group work helps to develop individual skills in communication, relationship building and asserting oneself
In Case Study 5.1, Mrs. James not only effectively started her class with sharing her own experiences and building relationship with her students but also emphasized the importance of group work, which is in helping and learning from each other. She illustrated the following strategies and routines that supported cooperative learning: room arrangement, talk and movement procedures and individual accountability by building students’ social, explanation and sharing skills.
Throughout life there are many instances in which an individual has to work in a group to complete a task/project. The importance of group work is to have teamwork with each member of the group. Humans are driven to connect with each other and by working as a group ideas become much more enriched and the ideas or thoughts that each person ‘brings to the table’ each individual is able to add onto that idea or it can trigger one to think of something completely different.
First, learning to work, as a team, can be difficult if the person you’re working with always has to have the right answer or nobody wants to agree on something. It takes everyone in the group or on the team to work together to be successful in whatever it is they are trying to accomplish. The term
With the heterogeneous groups the level of discussion and cooperative work is increased, providing benefits for every student partaking. According to Paul Burden and David Byrd (2012), “Having students work in groups generally has a positive effect on their achievement when compared to their work as individuals.” Small-group work and discussions allows for students to improve their communication skill, cooperation skills, and gain new insight and understanding from their peers in a way that could not be achieved working alone.

In work, at school, in our daily life we deal with many different humans around us , teamwork is essential for humanity. In Source number 2 states that ¨kids learn the value of teamwork when they play musical
“Group work is a form of voluntary association of members benefiting from cooperative learning that enhances the total output of the activity than when done individually”.
Teamwork is the backbone of effective communication and the crucial cog that keeps the wheel of successful project management turning. The role of teamwork in enhancing problem solving skills, cohesion, learning, and productivity can no longer be ignored. Proper teamwork plays an integral role in promoting the effective implementation and fulfillment of shared goals in a team project in a manner that is better and quicker. Team work also provides a solid platform on which team members can take on different responsibilities and contribute in ways that together makes the entire team an effective unit.
A team is a group of people working together to achieve the same objectives. Katzenbach and Smith state in their report The Discipline of Teams (1993) that ‘the essence of a team is common commitment. Without it, groups perform as individuals; with it, they become a powerful unit of collective performance.’ Throughout this study, I will analyse the many different advantages and disadvantages of working in teams and its effects on team members and their performance and commitment within the team. I will consider many different aspects of team work and refer to certain established theories in
