Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) are a pair of often interdependent industrial computer applications that have greatly influenced the chain of processes between the initial design and the final realization of a product. Many would add to this duo a third technology, computer-aided engineering (CAE). Ongoing refinements in CAD/CAM systems continue to save manufacturers tens of millions of dollars in time and resources over non-computerized methods. As a consequence, CAD and CAM technologies are responsible for massive gains in both productivity and quality, particularly since the 1980s. For some purposes CAD and CAM

The development of CAD and CAM and particularly the linkage between the two overcame these problems by enabling the design and manufacture of a part to be undertaken using the same system of encoding geometrical data. This eliminated the need for a tape encoding specialist and greatly shortened the time between design and manufacture. CAD/CAM thus greatly expanded the scope of production processes with which automated machinery could be economically used. Just as important, CAD/CAM gave the designer much more direct control over the production process, creating the possibility of completely integrated design and manufacturing processes.
The rapid growth in the use of CAD/CAM technologies after the early 1970s was made possible by the development of mass-produced silicon chips and the microprocessor, resulting in more affordable computers. As the price of computers declined and their processing power improved, the use of CAD/CAM broadened from large firms using large-scale mass production techniques (the automobile industry, for instance) to firms of all sizes. The scope of operations to which CAD/CAM was applied broadened as well. In addition to parts-shaping by traditional machine tool processes such as stamping, drilling, milling, and grinding, CAD/CAM has come to be used by firms involved in producing consumer electronics, electronic
CAD systems are used for the graphic design, it generates three dimensional graphic designs, and the knowledge worker can check the design from different angles. The analysis of design via this way is much faster and more accurate than the traditional ways. It is accelerating designing phase by which it not only save time but also save cost and production phase can start sooner than expectations.
In my robotics team, I learn all about programming in languages such as Java and C and the engineering design process. I am given the opportunity to design in CAD and to formally document our process in a professional Engineering
In the article “Alien World” by Alexander Zaitchik (2009), the author makes a logical argument about how Mexico’s impoverished economy is heavily dependent on migrant workers and how it has affected an indigenous people. Zaitchik is a freelance journalist who is affiliated with Poverty Law, a U.S. organization that supports ethnic and racial tolerance. Zaitchik’s article attempts to convey the idea that Mexico’s economy is forcing people to take desperate measures in order to survive. He uses his
The Polymold Division case is answering whether or not the CAD/CAM is a good investment. We are looking to answer how it benefits the company, financially. Mr. Martin, the Polymold Division manager felt that sales would continue to decline if Polymold did not invest in the new computer-aided designing and manufacturing system and it would lose market share on its remaining products to its more technologically advanced computers. Mr. Martin feared the marketplace. Polymold manufactured high-quality precision molds with interchangeable parts.
JD sports, John Lewis and Mcdonland have some things in common when come to technology. They design their products and marketing their brand sometime by using computer aided design (CAD) , the programs are used to complete designs on computer rather than on paper-based. Computer numerical controlled(CNC) the program is used in millions of machines and its very useful has its numerical do the necessary calculations.Computing aided manufacturing (CAM) link with CAD and CNC ,it normally progresses to store information and financial accounts.
The process was labor intensive, but fully integrated manufacturing only required a $1 million investment in machine tools. Prefabricated parts were available for assemblers, who could enter the market with an investment of just $300,000. Furthermore, no competitor held any significant patents.
With the background and preliminary work complete, the remaining work in this contract is concentrated in constructing and presenting the proposed design. After the proposed design is modelled on AutoCAD, a physical prototype will be constructed. The prototype will require testing and improvement over several iterations. Upon the completion of the prototype, it will serve as a visual aid to the project presentation.
The title of my paper is called, “Life on Another Planet.” The purpose of my essay is to explore the question of do aliens exist? I explained the possibilities that there could be other life out there in space. My conclusion was that in the future scientists could discover a planet where we can move to and live in, and even meet new species of life. As a result, scientists should develop more tools
CAD/CAM technology an innovation in the production of dental prosthesis. CAD/CAM is a technological advancement in dentistry, the production of dental prosthesis can be done at the dental office instead of dental laboratories. Going to get a restoration for example a crown can be a long process which requires a pair of visits to the dental office. The process may be going to get the tooth prepared, impression, and placing of the temporary crown. The second visit requires cementing the crown and adjusting the bite. In contrast the CAD/CAM technology can provide a quicker method. Today you can visit a dental office that has a CAD/CAM Cerec machine to get your restoration fabricated and placed in one single day. This advancement in dental technology
The current software, AutoCAD was currently being used with a combination of MasterCam. AutoCAD would support the design work while MasterCam would be used to program the CNC router. The new program, SolidWorks would be used to convert all of the flat models
In the area of defect, the mirror image model can be exported to a computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) system for preoperative processes (wrapping, fitting errors, and shape) [3].
Based on the changing electronic industry and business demands, Custom Molds should correct major issues by adopting the following recommendations. The molding process should focus on small batch sizes and purchase more small and customizable machines. More workers should be hired to oversee the production since there is more labor needed to prepare the machine for each customized mold. The plastic parts process should focus on few but large capacity specialized machines. Fewer workers will be needed to oversee this process because there are few setting changes needed. To control the problem of late deliveries, a better communication system between offices should be implemented so workers do not need to walk back and forth between offices. Orders should also be accepted based on the ability to complete the product in the time that is promised to the customer. More efficient communication between all departments would result in a more accurate estimated delivery time. To control errors resulting in defective parts, Custom Molds should invest in moving the testing center to a more centrally located area. More frequent testing and less walking will increase efficiency and decrease defective products. An alternative option to the recommendations listed, is for Custom Molds Inc. to evaluate the market for the products they produce and to decide to make either molds or plastic parts. The key factors that should be considered while

NC Machining is a process used in the manufacturing sector that involves the use of computers to control machine tools. Tools that can be controlled in this manner include lathes, mills, routers and grinders. The CNC in CNC Machining stands for Computer Numerical Control. On the surface, it may look like a normal PC controls the machines, but the computer's unique software and control console are what really sets the system apart for use in CNC machining. Under CNC Machining, machine tools function through numerical control. A computer program is customized for an object and the machines are programmed with CNC machining language (called G-code) that essentially controls all features like feed rate, coordination, location
One of the major drivers of success at Tata Motors Ltd. (TML) was its ability to fully exploit information technology to drive business goals and reduce cost. The company was an early adopter of CAD and CAM systems
