Lucille Ball was a talented actress/comedian who was inspirational on and off stage (even though she faced much controversy) because of her diligence, determination, and initiative. “Lucy’s first trip to New York was a failure because she lost her job but this did not make her give up (Love Lucy, 69).” Lucy displayed diligence when she lost her job and had to go back home but she kept on trying and ended up going back to New York. Her work paid off and she found more success the next time. “Lucy found more success the second time she went to New York though (“Lucille Ball Biography” 1).” She was a determined actress who was never willing to give up on her dream. “When I Love Lucy first aired, it was an immediate success. With 8.7 million viewers nationwide, the show brought happiness into everyone’s households. (“Lucille Ball Biography” 1).” The show brought joy to millions and showed the country how entertaining a red headed American girl and her best friend getting into trouble could be. The format of the show was a perfect showcase of Lucy’s comedic genius. “Many viewers who watched their show were perplexed when they saw a Latin lover and ditsy red-head American fall in love. (“The Many Sides of Lucille Ball” 1).” Lucile and Desi broke down barriers by showing a Cuban husband and an American wife on national television during the 1950s. Lucy and Desi defied stereotypes and in spite of the controversy, the show was a huge success. “Lucille, even though she was a girl, was considered the greatest comedian of her time.” (“Lucille Ball Biography” 1).” Lucy was an incredibly funny comedian who blazed a trail for future female comedians and actresses. In addition, as a producer and director, Lucy changed perceptions about women calling the shots in Hollywood.
