I was born at seven-thirty in Manhattan, New York on October 14th, 2002 to seventeen-year-old, Samantha Souchet and eighteen-year-old, Luis Soto. They were kids having a kid. I was raised by many women on one block. Such as my two great-grandmothers, my grandmother, my mother and my three aunts. I was the only child in the house so I kind of grew up acting like a little adult, which I still kind of act like. You tend to learn a lot of things from living with a bunch of women your whole life. I always speak of all the lessons they taught me but I hardly ever speak of my father. My father is my hero and role model.
I believe in family, love and selflessness. I believe in being able to do what you love and dedication to doing what you love. My
Alternatively, Chavez was born in Yuma, in the state of California. Likewise, Chavez moved to California with his parents to work in the fields. Poet, author, and filmmaker Gary Soto did not always have an interest in literature. In fact, he wasn 't interested in learning about literature until his college years, when Soto took a look at a poetry anthology while pushing off a research paper (Fabiano 279). According to author Charles Tatum, Soto grew up in Fresno, California with his two parents and two siblings. He also lived a childhood filled with sadness, loneliness, and poverty. (Tatum Vol. 1). Gary Soto got past his isolated and upsetting childhood and became not only a successful poet and author, but would also become known as one of the most multi-talented and elite writers of his time.
Twenty year old Queens, New York native, Edwin Torres is on his third (non consecutive) year at York college. While undecided about what he’d like to do after college (he’s the first to disclose he’s extremely easy going and lazy) he knows one thing. He’d like to graduate. Currently Edwin is working on a B.S. in environmental health science. EHS is the study of human disease in connection to the environment. For those that meant to google it and now won’t have to. Yep, his guy is looking to improve the quality of the earth and the people inhabiting it.
De Soto’s exact date of birth is unknown. Based on my sources it was some were between 1496 and 1501. He was born in Jerez de los Caballeros, Spain. His parents were Leonor arias Tinoco and Francisco Mendez de Soto. In 1514, he was sent to the port city of Seville, by his father. De Soto started working for Pedro Arias Davila. While working for Davila, de Soto got his shot at the adventure he had been wanting. In 1514, de Soto joined the expedition, run by Davila, to the new world. In 1514, on April 11th, with a fleet of 20 ships and 200 people, Davila’s crew set off. They landed, 2 or so months after they set of, in a rainforest in central America. The areas they encountered were inhabited by natives. De Soto led many raids on the natives. Due to this, his reputation grew. He became a captain, because of this in 1520. As Davila’s representative, de Soto was expected to explore for land and riches. De Soto explored many areas, including present day Costa Rica and Honduras. In 1524, de Soto conquered Nicaragua and became alcalde, Alcalde means mayor, and of course his adventures didn’t stop there.
This morning we went exploring in Georgia and found a village to stay in. When we first arrived, the Indians were being extremely aggressive and made it clear that they were not happy about our presence. That’s when Hernando de Soto did something that I did not approve of, and he led the Indians to believe that he was a god so they would allow us to live there for a few months. Personally, I believe it is selfish to trick people simply to get what you want out of them.
Benito Juarez was a lawyer, judge and later the 26th President of Mexico from 1858 to 1872. Juarez as the Secretary of Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Justice of Mexico introduced reforms that limited the power of the Catholic Church. As the President of Mexico, he kept the nation together against a foreign occupation. He also brought forth law that declared equal rights for all in Mexico. His legacy is one of being a great liberal reformer and dedicated to democracy in Mexico.
His success in school and educational attainment was aided by his parents support, mentor and teachers help, and his self-driven personality. I believe that his ability to learn English so quickly was the prerequisite that allowed him to do well in school (Feliciano Lec. 2/24/16). Matt’s father continued to pull him and his brothers out from school early before the year ended until one day “the lead person of the farmworkers told [him] that he had to leave [them] in school” but by then he was already a sophomore in high school. Contrary to Lopez’s (2003) argument in her article that young men tend to be disengaged from their studies and appeal to the masculine association of their culture, Matt stayed focused in school and always stayed on top of his homework. I think that the reason he was able to stay focused in school and have a relationship with his teachers was because his dad would not let them dress up or hangout with cholos. Students of Mexican descent who define themselves as Chicano or Cholo tend to have lower educational attainment (Feliciano Lec. 1/25/16).

In this particular excerpt it tells of a day with de Soto and his troops to find a place to resemble the riches of Peru. They entered many Indian villages and town like that of Tuscaloosa and met with an Indian chief, who they asked for Indian porters and women. However, as they arrive to collect them they are attacked by the Indian village. This results in many casualties and

David Nunez was a grenade, or so I’ve been told. Like the accidental pulling of a pin, a medical abnormality blew my family into a states of shock and mourning. Too many times we as human beings take for granted what or who has been given to us, then one day they are gone. To say I knew my uncle would be a lie. My memories of him consist of old photographs and stories my family tell. They don't talk about him much though, I understand it is too painful to talk about. In an effort to capture the humanity that Dave had, I began to question my mother about the man in the black and white photographs.
