Many people in our society do not like the idea of lying, but lie on a daily basis. In a Poll half of the people said lying was never ok, but in that same poll two-thirds said lying was ok in certain situations. I firmly believe lying is acceptable in our society.
Lying is acceptable if it creates a more positive result than negative. For example, Bella De Paulo, a professor who studied lying stated,” If you are at a party and you disagree with something you partner said, you may stay quiet to keep a happy relationship.” (3) Lying by not saying anything can keep a positive relationship. Some people will lie to keep you and another person happy. In addition, Randy Cohen, an ethics columnist, stated ,”If you are on your way to an award ceremony

For example, in the article,”The U.S Political campaign” it states Anna Frank survived as long as she did because people lied.(1) Since the people lied Anna Frank survived. This shows that lying can save a life. In addition, Harold Smith, 64, lied to his daughter about his health. He states,”why get her all traumatized? I tried to protect her.”(3) Since Smith lied to his daughter, she didn’t have to worry. This is showing an example of someone protecting others from harm. In conclusion, lying can be acceptable when people stay safe. lying Some people may think that lying is never acceptable. Many of those people that believe lying is never ok think that telling the truth is easier. Telling the truth may be easier, however, it may hurt people's feelings. If someone tells the truth to another person about how they look, they may get offended. Also, some people think telling the truth is less stressful. That may be some people’s thoughts, but if you told someone something bad that’s happening to you they might stress out. For example, a 64 year old didn’t tell his daughter about his kidney tumor to protect her from thinking about what may happen.(3)
I firmly believe that in our society lying is an ok thing to do. Lying to keep others happy and create a more positive result is acceptable. Lying to protect and care for others is ok. This is showing people that lying can be used in a good way and is not a
Lying: it’s something everyone is guilty of. Whether they be big or small, lies are everywhere. We live in a society full of lies, so we take the consequences of lying with a grain of salt. There’s no doubt about it; lying can be dangerous. Therefore, we should be more wary of our lies and their consequences. Lies can be detrimental and do have the potential to change society for the worse.
Many may question whether Lying is a good or bad thing. While many believe that lying is used to protect someone, you might be actually do more harm than good. Everybody can lie but it can have a variety of outcomes. Allowing yourself to lie doesn't help anybody. Lying is unjustified because it would cause harm to someone than good and telling the truth can be beneficial and easier.
Lying can be described as the act of telling an untruth, but just when is it ok to lie? In the articles, “It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying,” from Life on NBCNEWS.com, and “Brad Blanton: Honestly, Tell the Truth,” by Barbara Ballinger, it provides evidence that leads me to believe that lying is acceptable when you do it to protect a relationship or someone from a life or death situation.
Lots of people lie, but when is it actually justified to lie and when is it not justified? In four articles each author shared their opinions on lying. Each author had a different perspective on the topic. Lying is sometimes acceptable when it is used to protect the feelings of others.
People often tell lies to benefit themselves, not knowing that they could potentially be hurting another person. If a person is covering up something that they did, they’re lying. If they want to make a friend feel better about themselves by complimenting them on something that isn’t true, they’re lying. According to Lying is not awful for our society because we’ve been doing it for so long that it has become a habit for people to lie and it doesn’t affect us anymore.
In society, and social uncertainty, lying is flourishing. I previously learned with a past job from working with clients you could not trust people. People will say anything to protect themselves. Working in an office around people every day, subjected to criticism every day, and putting trust in these people because they say they are helping you, and then you come to realize their selfish motives and it destroys your spirit in a very terrible way.
According to Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, lying is acceptable in not even one situation you can think of. He specifically states,”Truthfulness in statements which cannot be avoided is the formal duty of an individual to everyone, however great may be the disadvantage” (Bok 1). This is so important because it really elaborates on how religiously one should avoid
In conclusion, everyone has different view on lies, I believe that there are only a few situations in which telling a lie is okay, and that every lie has an
Everyone lies about something whether it’s a like to protect someone from something going on or to hurt someone's feelings cuz you don’t like them or they don’t you.Lying is ok because white lies are acceptable.Rebecca Campbell know what she was doing when she told her four year old son that their was no more tv for the day.Rebecca said “we can’t have the tv on all day’’deep in her heart she knew what telling him the truth was better but lying was faster and easier because if she told her son the truth he would have asked her questions like why can’t I watch tv anymore or why did u turn off the tv we can still watch tv so it was better to tell him a lie. Lying is acceptable because u can lie to make someone stop doing what their doing.
While lying can be ,at times, socially acceptable, there are dangers to lying that must be weighed, but most lies are not okay.
Lying, everybody does it but is it ever really okay? The truth is that lying is never okay as it always harms others or even yourself. There are others who also believe in honest and have evidence to support their claims such as Immanuel Kant and Brad Blanton. They have both committed to honesty and have good reasoning to back up honesty instead of lying.
When is lying ok ? I think lying is ok only when you are trying to protect someone or lie because you don’t want to get into trouble. I believe that lying is sometimes ok because you can lie so you won’t get into trouble or want people to think that you are telling the truth so you lie to your friends or family.
Lying means presenting oneself in a way that is inconsistent with the true nature of oneself. According to wikipebia` A lie is a statement that is known or intended by its source to be misleading, inaccurate or false.” I have lied numerous of times, for various occasions. As a young child, we lied just for the sake of not getting into trouble with our parents, friends, teachers and elders. A lie was being told after the other without realizing the consequences of the actions. Was is alright to lie, who would I affect in the long run or even was lying beneficial for me? Now as an adult, matured and also following this class has made me realize that either u lie for your own benefit and also you can lie to make the majority
Lying in some instances, is not always bad. There are many ways a little white lie is good every now and then. Your friend asks you if this dress looks cute on her, and you say “ooo yes girl it looks great”. But, you think it does not look that good on her. You said that to protect her feelings. That is one example of how telling a white lie is not that bad. People also tell white lies for happy occasions too, like a surprise party. Lying can also get you out of a situation. For example, someone you really do not like approaches you and asks for your phone number. You could say that you do not have a phone. In that case it wouldn’t really harm anyone.
Lying is necessary to maintain positive relationships. Society condones lying when our intentions are to preserve the feelings of others.
