MDIHS is a the primary high school serving AOS 91, which is located in rural Hancock County. Unlike many surrounding districts, the communities served by AOS (alternative organizational structure) have joined “for the purpose of providing administrative services”, including, but not limited to “a superintendent, special education administration, transportation administration, and business functions” (Maine Department of Education, 2015, p.1). Provided this structure each community maintains its own budget, and school board, therefore, in many regards allowing the schools system to be modeled after local traditions (Maine Department of Education, 2015, p.1).
