Sacajawea is a well-known American-Indian woman. Her expedition with explorers Lewis and Clark was extraordinary. She was born in Tendoy, Idaho around 1788. She was a member of the Lemhi Shoshone tribe. At this time, the American territory ended at the Mississippi River. One year after the Louisiana Purchase, President Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark on an expedition that left from St. Louis, Missouri, traveling through the US Northwest, to the Pacific Ocean (History).

Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur Oklahoma is a place where many families go to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. What many may not know is that the waters in this area were a treasured resource even before statehood. Native Americans were the first to speak of the wonderous health benefits of the water and after the arrival of the white man the preservation of this area would become an issue not only for the Native Americans who discovered it but also for the settlers who viewed it as an opportunity to become rich. Acquisition of this land would lead to the founding of Oklahoma’s first and last National Park. Originally named Platt National Park, the birth of this area has given way to years of enjoyment for its patrons, and it has carried in its waters a rich history of Native Americans, the federal government, and a rowdy group of enterprising settlers.

Sacagawea was A near-legendary figure in the history of the American West, and I believe that without Sacagawea, Lewis, and Clark wouldn’t be able to have any life skills on survival. She also Proved women can do anything, Sacagawea helped Lewis and Clark with their survival skills and translation.

It has been 60 years since we have last record the events in the Nacirema culture and now researches today are baffled by the culture of the young Nacirema children. For example these young are spending day and night with their noses in these light boxes. Day after day, night after night these children love to stare at these hand size light boxes. We don’t exactly know what’s so entertaining about the light or the box, but we see them laugh, smile, cry, and get angry while looking into the light boxes. The older generation of the Nacirema indicates a great display of disapproval of them, but hypocritically many of them spend almost just as much time viewing into the light boxes as well.

There are also other minor gods and goddesses in the Maasai religion (“Maasai”). When a man is born, Enkai gives him a protecting spirit to help him ward off demons (Finke). Music is an important aspect to the Maasai, and is based off call and response technique. Music usually takes palces during important ceremonies, such as circumcisions and marriage. Another component of arts in the Maasai culture is there use of beads and such to make jewelry. When it comes to illness, doctors are far from many Maasai, and must Maasai attempt to heal themselves with herbal remedies. Kamehameha was a furious warrior from the day he born because before he was born, kamehameha’s mom had a craving for a tiger sharks eye. He was trained as an ali’i in combat and strategies in warfare by Kekuhaupio his trainer. Kalaniopuu was his uncle and the ali’i of hawaii, he gave kamehameha the task of being the keeper of Ku the god of warfare before he died. Kamehameha is a very respected person because he was the first Hawaiian person to conquer all the Hawaiian islands and unite them. Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was responsible and cared for his people.

I believe that the Makah Indians should be granted the wavier to continue to hunt whales. Particularly, since the U.S Government signed the Neah Bay Treaty in 1855 with the Makah people, stating that it was OK for the Makah Indians to continue to hunt for fish, seals, whales, in exchange for 500 acre of their ancestral land. I feel it is only fair for the U.S government to keep their word and continue to let them hunt. In addition, the Gray Whale population has risen tremendously since 1926 and hunting 5 whales per year will not cause anymore damage. It is also very apparent that the Makah people care about the whales and don't view them as just an animal to kill because they volunteered to momentarily end their whale hunting in order to save the species when the whale species nearly went extinct. In conclusion, no part of the whale is wasted, the Makah people find uses for all parts of the whale.

The Makah tribe is a very interesting tribe. They hunted, farmed, and enjoyed life! Even though a lot of times they didn’t want to work they did for their people in their tribe.

One thing about the news today that my Mawmaw has noticed is how it has changed so much since she was young. If there was a shooting or a tragedy, it was a rare occasion. Today, a major crime happens weekly. From the church shooting in Georgia, to the explosion in France, and, just recently, the shooting in Colorado at the abortion clinic all happened within months of each other. She especially recognizes how the devil is attacking young people of today.

Hawaii, translated from the ancient Hawaiian language should mean paradise because that's what it is. Hawaii has a climate that varies only several degrees in temperature year round and the sun always shines. The rainy season is in January, but it isn't so rainy that it deters visitors. In fact, winter is one of the most popular times of year to visit Hawaii. This is probably because it is cold and dreary just about everywhere else in the United States. Hawaii makes for the perfect getaway for Californians because it is only about a three-hour flight.

The Maasai are a pastoralist tribe living in Kenya and Northern Tanzania. Much of their land falls within the Great Rift Valley. The main source of their livelihood remains livestock, consisting of cattle, sheep, and goats. Traditionally, Maasai do not feed on game meat as this is associated with the hunters-gathers (Dorobo people). They have relied on their livestock, mainly cows, for most of their nutritional needs. Milk, meat, and blood constitute the basic components of the Maasai diet.
