In recent news, there has been a string of attacks all over the world; each attack has been related to terrorism. A passenger boarded a train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris, armed with a box cutter, a pistol and an AK-47 with intent to harm innocent people. Four passengers on the train quickly subdued the terrorist before anyone could be harmed. In November, Paris, France was struck with terror when three armed men set off a string of attacks throughout the city, to include a bomb and active shootings. This attack left nearly 127 people killed and wounded. Most recently, in San Bernadino, California a man and woman left from a holiday party and returned with assault rifles. After the attacks, many myths started to surface about why this happened. Some of the myths included that is were revenge for arresting Timothy McVeigh. The attack happened one day after the Oklahoma City bombing. Another was that is was because it was Hitler’s birthday. Others say it was because of al the violence in video game and T.V. that drove them to this. What were the actual reasons, only Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris will know.

Airports did the best that they could with this shock and made as many changes as fast as they could. The airport said, “We went from 0 to 100 overnight in terms of what we had to do for security'" (Thackeray 1). The next couple of days the security workers had there work cut out for them and had to work vigorously to achieve what authority was telling them. They did the best job that they could with the time they had. Many people with scheduled flights were having trouble after this attack because the airport was in a frenzy and trying there hardest to keep things in order. According to some workers at the airport, "...some terminals at the three airports were deluged with passengers, most of whom encountered only frustration" (Levy 1). Frustration is expected with all the chaos that was going on with people trying to stick to a schedule, and also with workers trying to obey the rules. Ms. Zbinden was spending to much money to keep going to the airport and then having the flight be canceled so she shared her frustration with the workers. It doesn't mean it was an is is attack. Isis claims to be a part of things to use fear to control people. His father said that he saw 2 men kissing and he was disgusted. Hate can lead to many things, and sadly we saw an example of that today.

When Carol told one of her friends she would be flying to Italy on September 11, 2017, her friend said, “Oh my gosh, you don’t want to fly on that day.” Many people remember that day and still think about it now, “it just doesn’t leave us.” “That seemed to be the start of terrorism in The United States.”

On April 15, 2013 during the Boston Marathon in Copley Square, two bombs exploded near the finish line killing at least three and injuring over 170 people. This bombing sent the nation in an uproar and it was immediately recognized as a terrorist attack. When the Federal Bureau of Investigation took over, a few days later a surveillance video and photographs of the two suspects were released.

This weekend, there was an alleged ISIS-Inspired knife attack in Roanoke, Virginia. An adult Arab male, allegedly hollered “Allahu akbar” while attacking two people, which was described by police as an attempt to decapitate at least one of the victims. The suspect was arrested by the Roanoke County Police Department for malicious wounding. According to the media, the FBI is investigating this as a terrorist attack (FBI investigating whether Virginia stabbings were ISIS-inspired, 2016).

Authorities say that Flanagan had close ties with terrorist organizations that assisted the attacks in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. The Wednesday shooting appeared to be solo attack, and he left no indication of telling anyone else

Another terrorist attack that was recently was the Manhattan attack. On October 31,2017 a 29-year-old male named Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov rented a pick-up truck and drove down a bicycle path near the World Trade Center. He killed 8 people and injured 11 others. This attack was named the deadliest attack since 9/11 back in 2001. The authority found a note near the truck saying the attack was made for ISIS. He was from Uzbekistan in Central Asia but had been living in the US since 2010. Could you imagine just riding your bicycle on a path or even walking it and the next thing you see is a truck running people over. I know I could not imagine it even thinking about it is a scary thought.

On April 19, 1995, a detrimental explosion targeting the nine-story Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma took place. This incident of domestic terrorism and the mastermind behind the explosion was credited to Timothy McVeigh who used a truck-bomb to kill 168 people and injure countless others (History.com Staff, 2009).

An explosion in Manhattan on Saturday injured 29 people. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had said earlier that it didn't appear to be linked to international terrorism. A pressure cooker device was also found blocks away, but it didn't explode. Authorities were trying to determine if they were connected.

Since the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, approximately 330 terrorist attacks have occurred on American soil. The number includes successful and failed attacks from President Lincoln’s assassination until a New York incident with a van running down pedestrians on October 31, 2017. The results also exclude attacks deemed “criminal incidents” and accidents. Of course, not all of the attacks were at the same magnitude of the four coordinated attacks on September 11, 2001. Black Friday is a day when people shop. Thanksgiving is a day for being with family. I believe that these two shouldn’t mix. Some people say that they would lose customers to other stores. In reality, many stores don’t open on Thanksgiving, so you would not be losing anything to them. Also, workers need family time.
