Yesterday the players were joined at practice by the fifth grade students from Williams Magnet School. The student had a chance to watch practice and then they were able to get on the ice and skate with a few of the players. The field trip was a reward for everyone's cooperation during their state testing this year. The RoadRunners wish everyone at Williams Magnet School good luck with the rest of their testing! Later that day the entire team headed over to Crestview United Methodist Church for a Chili Cookoff sponsored by the Topeka RoadRunners Booster Club. Johnny Walker, Jack Nickels, and John O'Connor volunteered to judge the contest. Everyone else was able to just enjoy the delicious food at their own leasure. During the Cookoff they
To most people, an ice rink is a place to go to spend time with others while clinging onto a bruised wall for two hours. For me, the ice rink is my second home. A place that I’ve dedicated countless hours practicing, working, and teaching in a place where it is winter all year round. From the cold, bitter mornings where you can see your own breath; to the times you catch yourself running over a bump due to the humidity coming from the ceilings dripping on you and the ice every 10 minutes, I spend more time at the rink than my own home. The ice rink is not just a place that I practice, it is a place where have grown accustomed to the feel of the ice and what makes it distinguishable from all the other rinks I have been to.

Jackson’s team went out to dinner after the game to celebrate their win. The next day the team got flyers on the tournaments and learned
Week two of field observation at Crestone Charter School. My Second week of field observations was really fun and interactive. I had the opportunity to work with several students from the k-1 class with special needs. We traveled to several reading stations and did a read along with the fourth and fifth-grade students. At arrival, I met with the main Para, Ammie Morphet and was informed that Lexi whom is one of the charter schools highest priority/needs students was the student I would be working with. Lexi usually has a personal in class Para that works with her throughout the day, but she was out sick. Since I know Lexi and have personal experience working with her we came to the conclusion that it would be best if I assisted with Lexis daily routine and any other classroom needs. This allowed Mrs. Morphet to attend to the other students she had previously scheduled for us to meet with.
It’s been a long road for Sweeney, but one he has been dedicated to from the beginning. On August 23rd Sweeney is planning to hold a free “come try sled hockey” event at the Winterhawk’s Skating Center. Sweeney is so sure that once the person hits the ice for the first time they’ll be hooked and ready to join. Furthermore, Sweeney understands it will be a slow process finding dedicated players who are willing to come consistently. http://www.usahockey.com/news_article/show/537872?referrer_id=752796

In today's world violence, chaos, and death has become too common and too redundant. It seems as though every day there is a new story in the newspaper about police brutality , the corruptions of society , and civil wars within developing countries. Despite the fact that we can easily look up information about the daily traditions and values of different cultures around the world we fail to do so. The lack of knowledge about other people and societies ,besides our own, causes a shallow understanding of why people do the things we hear and see in the headlines. This magnet school appeals to me because I believe learning about the world's customs will help me in my future goals to become a journalist.
Of course, due to the intensely large amount of traffic, we got there later than I had hoped. We sped through the parking lot and up the ramped section to climb to the top of the parking garage, because oddly enough, the rink is on top of a six story parking lot. We pulled up to
This article discussed how all people can play sled hockey. It also gives certain stories about people with disabilities, who were able to play with other people. For example, a boy named Liam Flanagan loves the battle of sled hockey. Liam has a non degenerative neuro tumor condition and he said, “It was the first team sport I played that my team played the same way I did.” This really inspired and helped to show me the benefits of non profit organizations like the NorthEast Sled Hockey League. I think it is really important we have these types of leagues so that everybody has the opportunity to participate in competitive
I was unable to find an activity that I liked and so I decided that I would make one when I get to Rowan. A couple of months ago I had my last Sled Hockey Banquet and if you don’t know what Sled Hockey is, I will explain it to you. Sled Hockey is a sport similar to Ice Hockey, but sitting down. This is for those who can’t play normal stand up Ice Hockey. There are these sleds with bars and blades under a bucket that support us and two mini Hockey sticks that help us move on the ice. This sport was everything to me and I will miss it and my goal is to try to make Sled hockey at rowan. I want to incorporate this to Rowan because I know some students are going to have the same issue as me and I want to change that. It doesn’t even have to be
“The money raised through the Corn Roast helps support the Kiwanis club programs throughout the Chardon area,” said club member and event chairman, Jim Rayl. “What is better than a wonderful afternoon with your family and
Ashley and I were up in the performance on the first and third day, and then the last day for the short go if we qualify. Our first go in the team roping was a success we placed 2nd place to earn a go round buckles. We participated in the mud volleyball tournament which the state of California got 2nd place in. Our second go of team roping was a success. The performance started 3 hours late this day because there was a problem with the pole bending that was happening in the small arena next to the big arena. We sat in the baking sun on our horses waiting and waiting when finally the performance was starting. We took second place again in the team roping putting us first place in the average going into the short go. We celebrated with dinner at the local chinese restaurant which we got lost trying to find.
I feel like I would greatly benefit from traveling to Washington D.C. I applied to Jones College Prep, a challenging selective enrollment high school and I would like to learn as much as I can so I will be well suited and prepared if I get in. Our Individuals in Society class (or Social Studies/Humanities class) only meets every other day, so we do not have as much time to learn about history and our country as we would for reading or math. I feel like the Washington D.C. trip would be three days of in-depth hands-on education that I wouldn’t get in class and that would help prepare me for high school. We also don’t have as many field trips in middle school as we had in earlier years, so this hands-on trip is a rare and special experience.
I want to personally thank you for taking time to make the The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) field trip, such a success. The whole experience of actually being in a laboratory and asking questions about the equipment, technique, and tests conducted inside was surreal. This was my first interaction with a scientist and I couldn’t be any more fortunate that it was you. The PowerPoint that you presented to us was both interactive and explained in great detail.
My goal was to tackle the members of the Big Tex Choice Awards list. A mixture of excitement and stomach pain flooded over me as I scrolled down the list. Members of this exclusive list include Bacon Wrapped Churros, Southern Fried Chicken & Dumplin's, and Dorito Bacon Fried Cheese Stick. Personally, I'm a sucker for anything covered in bacon, deep fried, or topped with ice cream, but I decided to step out of my comfort zone a little. After hours of searching and 2 snack breaks, I finally narrowed down my list of foods to try and their locations at the fair. My starting line up consisted of the Injectable Great Balls of BBQ, Fried Jambalaya, a Blackened Shrimp Baked Potato, and Fried Pecan Pie.
