The key aspect discussed in this paper will be managed care and its importance in relation to the overall Health Care development. Firstly, what is managed care? “Managed care is a mechanism of providing health care services in which a single organization takes on the management of financing, insurance, delivery, and payment” (Shi & Singh, 2017, p. 220). In order to understand how managed care has evolved, we must first look at the reason it was designed. During the 1980s and 1990s, the economy and working class Americans were faced with rising prices for medical care and services (Shi & Singh, 2017). Furthermore, health is considered as a form of capital simply due to the fact that it does not depreciate immediately (Aslan, Menegaki & Tugcu, 2016;2015). Managed care has been considered the one entity that has drastically changed the delivery of health care to millions of Americans (Shi & Singh, 2017).
