The article “ Learning to Serve” by Tony Mirabelli is a fantastic example of a discourse community profile that is told in a relatable story compared to a boring analysis. One of the more notable point of the article is how it makes it interesting by talking about different levels of expertise within the community. It does this very subtly by talking about three members of the wait staff and explains what quality of waiter they are. There is a hierarchical system within the waitstaff at Lou’s but it is mentioned very subtly in a non direct way. The article also casually talks about intercommunication of waiters at Lou’s but does it in a very relaxed way. It does this when it talks about how Harvey didn’t know what pesto was so he asked another
In this report I will be going over the importance of training and education within the military, and how they both play very important roles to not only leaders, but the service members within our ranks. The military is constantly training and, we train as we fight. However, before soldiers train, they must be well educated in all areas in which they will be training. Proper education is the key to proper training. I will also discuss the importance of becoming better educated while serving in the military, as it will make transitioning back into the
Leadership development in the military is critical to its mission and objectives. Understanding and embracing leadership will foster an agile culture and facilitate attainment of strategic goals. People desire quality leadership to assist with achieving their goals, albeit personal or professional development. Having a clear vision and the motivation to perform at high-levels influences others to work synergistically together to achieve organizational goals. Insomuch, employees value being treated respectfully, fairly, and ethically. Leaders serve people best when they help them develop their own initiative and good judgment, enable them to grow, and help them become better contributors.
It is also a “boundary spanning” activity in that it requires active involvement from people both within and outside of the classroom context, often resulting in participant contributors who represent a variety of generations, ethnicities, social groups, and experience levels (Billig and Furco, 2002, p.vii). Service-learning is designed to reduce the boundaries between an institutional campus environment and the community around it. It is designed to connect learning to real experience through service and reflection (Ball and Schilling, 2006; Becker, 2000). As a baseline to facilitate this development, service-learning is distinct from other types of community service and civic engagement experiences in that the service-learning experience must not only have a service and reflective component but also be clearly tied to the curriculum through learning objectives and theoretical underpinnings (Bloomquist, 2015; Pritchard, 2001). As Barbara Holland, former Director of the U.S. National Service-Learning Clearinghouse, shared, “Service-learning is all in the hyphen. It is the enrichment of specific learning goals through structured community service opportunities that respond to community-identified needs and opportunities.” (Kenworthy-U’Ren, Taylor, and Petri, 2006: 121).

Summary: In this article the authors are addressing future leaders, and they immediately inform the reader that because there is more complexity considerably more complex issues and technologies than a century ago in the operational military environment, there is a great need for military leaders to achieve autonomy in terms of adapting to and learning about the evolving environment. In short, leaders must be smarter and better prepared for a changing world.
Therefore, for the purposes of the study, the target population will be defined as “in need” students.

When I analyzed on how the Palm Beach State College registration process was being used by students and to try to reengineer the process, I realized that technology is the main focus of the registration process. Technology and job design has been incorporated into the registration process. There are numerous steps in the design of the registration process that need to be followed step by step. However, I think that there is one step in the registration process that can be added to help a current student, like me, can register for course in the Bachelors of Applied Science degree program.
Leadership has always been a topic of social interest and one that many have found difficult to define. Throughout history there have been various forms of leaders, each with vastly different styles and purpose. In short, leadership is a series of interactions between leaders and followers in the attainment of a greater goal. Dating back to the earliest records, military success has always been attributed to exceptional leadership (1). The better led force is almost always victorious over a less adequately led one; for this reason leadership has been has always been maintained as a forefront in all branches of the military. In the U.S. Army, “leadership is defined as the ability to influence others by providing purpose, direction, and
Since birth, there is an exposition of the human being to different types of Leadership. From mother emanates a sort of gentle Leadership, where she is constantly protecting her offspring, and preventing it from danger. She is capable of precluding her offspring from getting harm or maybe having singular experiences just to make it feel safe. The mother will support her offspring on each decision they make, even the dumbest ones. From father, there is a somewhat more aggressive Leadership style, where he also protects his offspring however; he encourages it to try different adventures, even if they are dangerous, to make his offspring as experienced as possible. This way when the father sets the example, his offspring will know that whatever moment of its journey it fails, he will support it because it has tried. The father 's primary goal is to make whatsoever he can in order to his offspring reach higher levels of proficiency, effectiveness, and success. The father wants his offspring to do better than he did. There are also Leadership styles that emanates from the grandparents. This kind of Leadership is between the Leadership style of the mother, and the father. It is protective like the mother 's nevertheless it is as well comforter when it concerns to the father 's aggressive Leadership style. The scenario above illustrates that Leadership is constant in the human life.
