Close your eyes and imagine you’re in the ocean with beautiful fish swimming all around you. Now look down. You have scales all over you and they’re holographic. You are a mermaid. Once you open your eyes it is all gone voices in your head tell that it is all just a legend but, is it really? These majestic creatures that we call mermaids have been seen before. “So I ask myself how could this thing be hidden so long, then you realize that the surface of the moon was explored more than the deep oceans and you look at that fact that even to this day there are still large animals being discovered.”(Robertson). This statement is very true it is a known fact that less than 5% of the ocean has been discovered. These creatures we imagine as mermaids …show more content…
However not all sightings have been where manatees could live. “Manatees can be found in shallow, slow-moving rivers, estuaries, saltwater bays, canals, and coastal areas — particularly where seagrass beds or freshwater vegetation flourish. Manatees are a migratory species. Within the United States, they are concentrated in Florida in the winter.”(Save the Manatees) It is impossible for a manatees with a natural instinct not to go to its natural habitat. Since there are sightings of mermaids far beyond central america. Plus if these animals migrated in some odd way they have to migrate to tropical waters. Another things is that they have a overfed look to them and mermaids being described don't have that description to them. Therefore we come back to our same sentence Mermaids are real. Overall this mystery remains unsolved. But most things point to mermaids being real. Lots of transcripts, painting and recordings of people seeing these beautiful creatures. We may never know the truth but, one thing we can do is to believe. Who knows maybe one day you just might see one. So to all the believers out there keep on believing and the ones who don't, start
The original tale is written by Hans Christian Anderson. Disney’s version could be called a complete 180 from the original. There are some small parts that align, like her saving the prince and falling for him and visiting the sea witch who takes her tongue (voice) for her legs. The deal remains the same: the mermaid can only stay human if the prince falls in love with her and marries her. However, the penalty is far more severe, she will die if she fails. There is also an unfortunate penalty to have legs: every single step she takes on land will feel like she is walking on sharp glass. On the other hand in the Disney movie the prince ends up with another girl (in the story, they do get married and it’s not the sea witch). She is given one option left to return to the sea. If she kills the prince, she can keep her life and gets to be a mermaid again. I’d say that’s a win-win. Of course, it isn’t for her, she loves the prince so much that she can’t go through with it. The mermaid throws herself in the sea and turns into sea foam. At least she was faithful till the
As McGovern explains in her synopsis of The Little Mermaid, a mermaid falls in love with a prince and makes a deal with a witch: She will trade her speech for legs, and if the prince marries her, she will get a soul. If he marries someone else, “she will turn to foam on the sea.” The prince does marry someone else, but the mermaid’s sisters save her by giving their hair to the witch.
Manatees have been protected by the Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act since 1978 (Spivey). This act prohibits annoying, molesting, harassing, or disturbing any manatee to be found in or near the state. It also specifies that anyone who tries to kill, hunt, pursue, or capture a manatee would have serious repercussions. Even with all these laws there is still a growing number of manatee deaths throughout the state. When manatees were put on the endangered species list in 1973 they were also put under the protection of the endangered species organization. This organization has enforced four laws so far to protect manatees from future harm (Swart). This entitles the manatee population to a number of new laws and requirements put on the state of Florida to protect them . For manatees this included new speed zones for boats and different water pollution regulations put into place at all bays where manatees are known to be. These things caused the number of injured manatees to go down for a few years but since then the numbers have slowly climbed back up to where they were before. The rules and regulations put in place by both the state of Florida and the endangered species organization did the trick for a while but the follow through on most of them was gone away causing them to no longer be of any help to the manatee
Long ago under the sea, there lived a royal mermaid family in a beautiful kingdom. Queen Ryell bore six flawless daughters to King Adron, however, one was not ordinary. She was the youngest mermaid and never fit in with the rest of the girls. She possessed long blonde curly hair with bright blue eyes. She was unique in her own way and talked to everyone she caught sight of. Although she was curious of what was outside of the Kingdom gates, she obeyed her parents and never departed. Her name was Luna.
The sirenia’s habitat is located in the warm coastal waters. In fact, manatees cannot live in water colder than 68℉. They can be found where there is an abundance of seagrass or vegetation. This species can live in either freshwater or saltwater and are usually by boating docks. They migrate to near the equator in the colder months. During the summer months, they travel as far north as Massachusetts and as far west as Louisiana and Texas. Manatees are seen in coastal
The manatees biggest predator is humans. Now it may supprise whomever is reading this paper, but manatees are mostly severley injured or even killed by boats.Manatees are actually identified with their scars and are recorded in journals. Alligator and any kind of shark.Even though manatees are massive, they do not have much body fat. Manatees are “Big boned”. The cold waters are a very serious threat to the manatee. They may accidentally move from a warm area of water to a colder one. Their bodies aren’t designed to be able to handle the cold temperatures. As a result everything can shut down and they will die in a short period of time. Young manatees Are the most vulnerable to this due to the curiosity. Manatees also suffer from digestion of trash and debri that we humans leave out in the waters. We can stop this by not littering, being more cautious while operating a boat and not hunting these magnificent creatures. They can not survive in less than 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Manatees have been hunted for their oil and have been almost to Extinction. Florida made a law of the hunting of manatees in 1893 the official season for thriving Florida manatees is October 30th to March 31st but there are manatees at stay in certain areas all year
Many folklores were created from each region; it went as far to movies with mermaids as the main character. Many believe mermaids are real, as far to report sightings. In 1493, off the coast of Hispaniola, Christopher Columbus reported seeing three “female forms” of half fish and half human creatures. In May 2012, a television docufiction aired on Animal Planet, Mermaids: The Body Found, which centered on experiences of national oceanic and atmospheric administration scientist, showcasing a CGI recreation of a mermaid.
When first reading “The Little Mermaid”, the reader is sure to notice the imagery painted by Anderson. He finds a way to make a place we see as dark and abysmal, the sea floor, seem bright, vibrant, and full of joy. One sentence Hans Christian Andersen writes, “The most wonderful trees and plants are growing down there, with stalks and leaves that bend so easily that they stir at the very slightest movement of the water, just as though they were alive” (216), perfectly exemplifies this imagery. It is also important to take note of how the imagery changes by location. In the part of the sea where the witch lives, the imagery evokes the feeling of gloom and loneliness that one would naturally expect from the sea floor. Above the surface of the ocean, in the human world, the author uses imagery that quite frankly blows the beauty of our world out of proportion. Andersen writes, “The whole sky had looked like gold, she said, and the clouds—well, she just couldn’t describe how beautiful they were as they sailed, all crimson and violet, over her head.” (218) This makes something we find trivial seem like something everyone must see before they die. While some may view this as odd, it is important to consider that the story centers around a mermaid who has never seen these things before.
(Alice Bradley Sheldon) uses the mythical object of a mermaid made of garbage to bring the reader into her world of fantasy in the story as well as to serve as a warning about the future. Tiptree describes the mermaid as one that is made of “all sorts of pieces of plastic, rope, styrofoam, netting, crates, and bolts— much of it clothed with that torn translucent white polyethylene for skin…” (Tiptree p. 384). Although the mermaid lacks mobility, it is able to reach out towards the man who found her. The town that the narrator of the story presides in is described by the following quote: “The effluvia of half a dozen hotels and the town behind ran out of pipes that were barely covered at low tide; only a few parrot-fish, who can stand anything, remained by the hotel-side restaurants to feed on the crusts the tourists threw them from their tables” (Tiptree p. 374)

The Loch Ness Monster has been a mystery since May 2nd 1933. There have been incredibly strong arguments to prove if The Loch Ness, also known as Nessie, is real or a misconception. The strongest, logic based theory is that the seismic effect caused people to see large bumps in the water, hear loud noises, and feel rumbling.
The LochNess Monster is an aquatic creature that lives in a lake in Scotland. The question that most people ask about the LochNess Monster is, is it real? There has been theory’s on if this creature is real or fake and has been this way for years. Over the years people have been lying to the media saying that they found the LochNess Monster, but no one believes them because they never have proof. I believe that the Loch Ness Monster is fake because the pictures that people take are not reliable and trustworthy, there is no scientific evidence that the Loch Ness Monster is real, and there are many sightings, but they have never been confirmed.
It rises up through the clear, pure air beyond the glittering stars. As we rise out of the water, and behold all the land of the earth, so do they rise to unknown and glorious regions which we shall never see” (Andersen). Anderson shines a new light onto mermaid, as the little mermaid is displayed selflessly; a radical twist to the common nineteenth century
In conclusion, it is most likely that mermaids are non existent but there is a possibility that they are out there somewhere. The three reasons why mermaids are just ancient folklore are that people mistook a flipper for an arm, people were deceived by the media, and they thought the AAT or aquatic ape theory was true when there are many explanations of why it is not true such as there is no proof. So maybe after all mermaids don't exis
Three years ago, the highly trusted television channel, Animal Planet aired a show showing evidence of mermaids being real.
