´´The Marble Champ´´
Life is hard. Everybody comes across a hard time in their lives where they have to work for their goals. Some people just give up, but if you keep going your hard work can pay off in the long run. The story, ´´The Marble Champ,´´ by Gary Soto, Lupe, the protagonist, learns that hard work pays off. Lupe is a shy girl and a straight-A- student, but she is no good at sports. When she finds a sport (marbles) she could maybe be good at, she never gave up in her hard work to achieve her goal. Lupe also experienced feeling good about herself. After practicing and lots of hard work things also got easier for her. Lupe was glad that she achieved all of these things because of her hard work.
The first reason why hard work pays off is, because it helps you achieve your goals. To begin with, in the story ´´The Marble Champ´´ Lupe achieves her goals of winning the marbles championship by practice and hard work. ´´She squeezed a rubber eraser one hundred times hoping it would strengthen her thumb.´´ So, her practice and hard work leaded Lupe into

The story ´´The Marble Champ´´ shows this because when Lupe was in the marbles competition it says everybody was easy to beat because she had practiced so hard. Furthermore, after the first time Lupe practiced it got easier every time.´´Practice, practice, practice, squeeze, squeeze, squeeze. Lupe got better...´´ This evidence shows, that after hard work things can get easier as you go along. I think Lupe realized this after she played at the marbles championship because everybody she played against was easily beat for her. And she realized this after she beat Alfonso, the neighborhood champ, she also realized that things can get easier after she practiced a few days and she got better and better. Therefore, marbles got easier for her every time she did it. She learned that her hard work payed
One reason why I think Lupe is a good role model is because she is very intelligent. As proof, Lupe’s academic grades are straight A’s. This shows that Lupe is intelligent because not many people get straight A’s on their report card every year of school. Secondly, Lupe is intelligent because she has won multiple awards. For example, Lupe won the school spelling bee, she won the blue ribbon award in the science fair, she was the winner of a reading contest at the library three summers in a row, she was also the top student in her piano recital, and she was the playground champion of chess. Talk about a ton of awards, right? Lupe feels like none of these awards mean anything though. Lupe wishes she could win some type of award in athletics, so that she can keep up with the other girls in her school, that’s why Lupe is working towards her goal of being the marble champion. Also, in one case in the story, when Lupe was playing marbles on her bed, she figured out that her bedspread was slowing down the marbles as she shot them. This
Lupe practices marbles a lot when she found her interest in marbles. She also really wants to be good at a sport. Lupe Also shows a sign of confidence in the marble championship. Lupe also shows many other traits in the story. A reason that shows Lupe is determined she Practices and practices, and keeps practicing.
The first reason why I think the theme of the story is determination is key, is because Lupe didn’t give up. First, Lupe Medrano practiced for hours! Even if she wasn't good in the beginning, she still tried. One thing she did to get better was squeezing an eraser. Lupe squeezed and squeezed an eraser for hours just to get her thumb stronger to flick the marble. She was persistent, even if it was painful. Also, in the middle of the story, it was a rainy day outside and she couldn’t go outside and practice. But, Lupe still found ways to get better bit by bit even inside. She spread out a bedsheet and flicked the marbles Being determined will get you far and you might learn some things. This shows that never giving up is a good reason for determined is key .
To begin, one reason why a possible theme could be to never give up is Lupe practices. At the beginning of the story Lupe did fingertip pushups. She did 20 of them in sets of five, so every so often she could take a break. This seems like a lot to ask from someone who isn’t that strong. She also squeezed a eraser for a long time. From doing this she got so good she beat Alfonso. Alfonso was a neighborhood kid who was really good at marbles, but Lupe got so good she beat him! In the story it says, “Man, she’s bad! Alfonso said. She can beat the other girls for sure. I think.” This was right after Lupe beat Alfonso, and he was one of the best at marbles. Another reason is Lupe only
So this is important because a three year old would know which way to go. So, Lupes hard work pays off but first Lupe is a bad athlete at the start of the story.
In life, hard work will always pay off. For example, in the book Scat by Carl Hiaasen, a character named Mrs. Starch is a hard working person. In connection, in the story The Three Little Pigs, the third pig works hard to build the brick house so it won't get huffed by the big bad wolf. In this essay, I will prove the connection between Mrs. Starch and the third pig. Mrs. Starch changes Duane because, she sees that if she puts in all her effort, then he can be able to pass Mrs. Starch’s class. Another evidence is that when Duane had to write an essay about pimples, he got an A- because, Mrs. Starch tutored him. “ But it says here I got an A-.” Mrs. Starch nodded. “Correct. If you hadn't misspelled ‘endocrine’, I would've given you an A.”(pg.
One reason that proves that hard work pays off is when the boys build a pitch by themselves. This was when one of the boys in the video decides to form a team, and since the boys have nowhere to play soccer on, they decide to build a floating pitch on the water. The boys used old wood and fishing rafts to build their pitch, and worked hard after school to build it. After all of their hard work, they
First I think Lupe is determined because she never gave up on anything. When Lupe wanted to try a new competition to be good at she did not quit on marbles until she was good at it. Every competition she try she never gave up on it and now she is the best at those competitive competition. Lupe squeezed a eraser 100 times just because she wanted to be the marble champ.
In the beginning of the short story by gary soto the protagonist lupe has a hard time coming up with a sport. But she never gives up. She only learned how to ride bike when she was 11 and she still had the training wheels on. She could also walk in the swimming pool but she couldn't swim the only time she scored a goal was when she scored a point fore the other team so this proves that she was having a hard time
Have you ever met someone that kept trying to be the best? In the story The Tortoise and the Hare by Aesop’s Fables and The Marble Champ by Gary Soto. In both stories they have in common that “Hard work pays off” in The tortoise and the Hare the Tortoise is trying to beat the Hare and in the Marble Champ Lupe is doing marbles and trying to win at marbles.
Lupe is vary competitive at marbles because she wants to win at marbles and be the champ so she can bring home a trophy for at least one sport.she is confident because she is vary faithful and she always tries her hardest because you have to try to win and she was happy that she became the best at marbles.she preservers by having her difficulties and she wanted to beat them and she met a tough competitor and she beat them .
In the story “ The Marble Camp” lupe learns that if you do not work hard you can not achieve anything as easy as everybody else. You have to step out of your comfort zone to get good at something. Lupe learns that if you build walls ard yourself you can not make friends or achieve your goals. This shows that Lupe learned that you have to have confidence to do something before you do it. This shows that Lupe is a very hard worker. The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you
In the first little part of the story lupe the main character seems to not be very good at sports. But the thing is she would say to herself “ I will never be good at sports. The first piece of evidence is that she can’t run very fast, for example in the story Marble Champ she would try and try to get her body to move faster in the fifty yard dash and she would never beat anyone. So, this shows that she is not good at sports because in most
The first reason that hard work pays off is because in the beginning she was very bad at sports. But the thing is she would say to herself, “ I will never be good at sports.” The first piece of evidence is that she can’t run very fast, for example in the story “Marble Champ” she would try and try to get her body to move faster in the fifty yard dash and she would never beat anyone. So, this shows that she is not good at sports because in most sports you need to run, skate or other movements that involve your legs, also she is not very fast when using her legs. My second piece of evidence is that she scored a goal for the other team, when playing soccer, by her kicking it into her own teams net. This shows that she didn't even know which net was and you need to know that to play a sport. My third example is that she can’t kick a ball in the right direction and can’t kick it to well. This says that she really once again doesn’t know how to use her legs for the right purpose . Even if she is very good at using her brain
Hard work equals success in many people's eyes. Experiencing work with family, school, and in the workplace has shown me the importance of hard work and dedication. Along with with that, I have gained responsibility, experience, and balance. Although my experience has shown me the importance of hard work and dedication, it has also helped me distinguish the risk of how the the value of work can be taken for granted.
