Unfortunately, band is always overlook in high school. The students that don't participate in band fail to notice that we are more than just band nerds. Just because band members are A & B students and very good at their instrument dose not mean we are nerds. Marching band is the biggest student run organization at Miramar high school. Band does not get finically supported by the school so band members have to fundraise to keep the organization running. The sport organizations get supported by the school because they think students care more about sports than band. I am a member of the Miramar High School Marching Band/Concert season, and I can tell you thats not true and we should get supported. Miramar High students and teachers

Students school pride went though the roof, they started calling the game “Patriots vs Falcons," Twitter war started between the student body about who was going to win, who was the best and even who band would blow out who. Also if our football team won the game; that can give the band more events to perform in, so we had to go and support the football team.
Sadly, the band had no money to rent the buses so we could attend the biggest game of the season. I remember band members going to our principle and beg her to help us out with the busses. My four years in band, this was a first time the school help us financially. She said yes, We were so happy to find out that we had a ride to the game.
Game day all the students and teaches was excited and hype. As band members walk down the hallway singing band songs like SOS, ICE CREAM MAN, and DARK-SIDE. Before we could step one foot out of the hallway, I spotted the expensive buses. Theses buses had A/C, Wifi, Tv, Reclining seats, Shades to block the sun and all. The football team and cheerleaders were jumping with joy and excitement while the band was standing there in shock. We got two small white busses. They didn't even to try to give us a yellow school bus. I did not know about the others but I was joyful that we had a ride to the game. That joy disappear as soon as the bus drivers tried to
Most schools offer a variety of activities, classes, and clubs. I personally was never interested in school or anything to do with it. Then I came across band and was instantly hooked. Band has concerts, marching band, and you get to meet new people. Band is my favorite class and here are some reasons why.
Summer band wasn’t easy but it did teach us lessons such as discipline, teamwork, resilience, and time management. Being in band is commitment all year round and through that commitment you are taught skills other people aren’t exposed to. Learning how to adapt to others is a skill you need to survive in a band. There are 200+ people in a lot of high school marching bands, which means over 200 different characters you have to work with no matter any difference. With most of us coming from different backgrounds of course there are going to be differences. Two years prior to high school there was a school split between and I lived on the edge of the zoning border. I lost most of my friends the following year and thought I would be by myself all throughout high school. When I joined band I knew that wasn’t going to be the case. The band was essentially my family and my directors were my parents. My school had a large band population so I never had a class without at least two other band kids. Also, the band kids were considered to be the smarter kids and since we all took Per-AP/AP classes we all had classes together. You couldn’t separate us because it was just that strong of a bond. Band on top of that was all
Click Click Click Click Click goes the metronome for the band to keep in tempo with the beat. Electives, such as Business math, Marketing, Band and Instrumental music, are important to students. An elective some students would like to add into school is a low brass marching band. Adding a low brass marching band into the school will give students the opportunity to show creativity, have more time to work on tone quality and more time to work on choreography.
It was October first when I woke up in my nice and cozy bed. Awakened by my light in my room and my mom yelling: “Rachel get up! You have to get ready for band.” I slowly opened my eyes and got up to go eat my usual breakfast, a Pop Tart. After I threw everything down, I got into my car and headed to the school. Once I got there I could see the two yellow buses that were going to take us to our destination. Everybody was all still tired and looked like they just got out of bed, with their hair in buns and in the clothes they slept inform the night before. When everyone eventually got on the buses we headed off to Sioux Falls. The whole ride there I wasn’t very nervous because I’ve performed this marching show so much but the tables will soon
“I could not tell you right now if it’s a problem for students or not. But, I don’t think that students would succeed more if there were not in the band,” said Stone. “I think that no matter if you are in band or not, you are going to have other things that want your time.
Band brings unforgettable memories. Band brings once in a lifetime opportunities, and students will cherish those memories for the rest of their lives
In the middle of the band season kids end up seeing each other at band everyday except Sunday, so naturally the band gets very close and forms a “band family”. For most of the kids band becomes a place where you don’t have to worry about all the stressful parts of your life. There will always be someone there to support you, which is why so many kids love band and all the people in it. Personally, band is my safe space. When I go to band I know everything will be okay and I don’t have to worry about anything other than hitting my high A flat. These kids have high grades, love what they’re doing, and stay out of trouble by coming to
I've been in marching band for four years, so you could say it’s a pretty big part of my life. I started in eighth grade and I joined the pit where I made a lot of new friends. I stayed in the pit for three years until this year. I switched to clarinet because pit just wasn't fun for me anymore. I'm glad that I switched because the girls in the clarinet section are all my friends now and I made lots of good memories with them. This year, our show was “Through the Woods” and it was fantastic. We worked so hard every moment that we could and had lots of fun together. It was a great group and we did really good. We made it to Semi-State again at Decatur Central High school, but on that cold October night, our name wasn't called when the announcer named off the bands that would go to State at Lucas Oil Stadium that next weekend. It was sad because we all thought that we had it in the bag.
Before the game my teammates and I were all hyped up. It was like we were warriors going off to battle. We could hear the roars of the crowd outside of our locker room. We took a peek outside and saw the student section was packed, in fact the whole stands were filled. Then
This research takes a look into some student's lives and how they manage their schedules. There are many students that participate in extracurricular activities, but there are some kids that don’t manage their activities and academics well. Every year coaches, sponsors, and directors have to go through with their members failing a class and not being able to participate on competition day. I'm a part of the Lopez Early College High School Marching Band and every year there's a couple of students that fail. This got me to think why do these students fail their classes? Is it because marching band demands a lot from a student and it's overwhelming balancing school and marching band or is there another reason. Marching band is an activity that
A variety of students have told me that they’d never be in marching band because it demands a lot of time and dedication. Though I concede that band does require a lot of time, it still is not enough reason to not be in it. Every discourse community is different when it comes to their goals, ideals, and diversity. They require different attributes in order to effectively join them, in other words to “fit in” but certainly they all require commitment and time. Therefore, I encourage everyone to join band, some of your best memories will root from it as well as long lasting friendships that can benefit you in the future. I am personally a part of the band community, especially the marching band side and can prove it through the use of logos, ethos, and pathos.
This can be achieved through events that the band partakes in throughout the year. One of the most important events is the trip to Linton to perform for middle students. Over the past several years, it has usually only been the seventh grade concert band students watching the performance. Why not treat this like an assembly for the seventh and eighth graders, and bring the whole grade to watch? This goes back to the fact that there is no prerequisite to join the band, just a willingness to work hard. More realistically, the marching band could perform twice, once for the seventh grade and once for the eighth grade. This event is very important to recruiting those long-time members of the band. Another event that has been discontinued in the past several years is the Penn Hills community day event. The band typically performed a stand still of the show, to showcase only the musical aspects as well as the visual ensemble’s choreography. While the “Unity in the Community” event is no longer in place, there are other community events, such as the “Summerfest” that still happens every year. The best way for the band to get their message out is to perform, not just talk about
My stomach churned like a whirlpool as I ate the last of my lunch. In a few minutes time, my team was going to go head to head with UCLA in our school flag football tournament and I was super nervous yet excited. To make the tournament more official, Mr. Bentley, our coach, referee, and PE teacher, made us pick college football team names for our team. I dashed onto the field and strapped the flags around my waist.
David started picking everyone up because we were staying at his house for the weekend. He picked me up first, next was Ty, then Devan. After picking me up, we were headed to Washington Township to pick up Ty. On our way to Ty’s, we heard on the radio that there was going to be a special announcement for the listeners. After waiting for fifteen minutes, they finally announced that Structures was going to be on tour and Michigan was on the list. After everyone was in the car, we talked about it and we had to go to the concert. David and Devan had to find a way to make $45 for
It all started on a cold, cloudy Friday after school. Everyone was ecstatic because it was the homecoming football game for the high school. Everyone was eagerly waiting to go home and get ready for the big game, but I, on the other hand, had to wait after the football practice because my dad was the coach.
