A maquiladora is a manufacturing plant based in Mexico where foreign companies import materials and equipment, on a duty free and tariff free basis, for the purposes of processing, manufacturing, or assembling goods which are then exported to other countries. The idea behind these maquiladoras promises a prosperous Mexican society. On paper, it really does seem like NAFTA is living up to expectations; creation of more jobs and a much less unemployment rate. On the surface, there seems to be nothing wrong with what’s going on in Mexico in terms of employment. Everyone has jobs and everyone is getting paid for these jobs, so what’s the issue? Despite all of this, the degrading and terrible working conditions imposed upon the maquiladora workers

Unlike the termagant medieval Muslim woman, Zoraida was presented as an object of pity and compassion. So, when Dorotea asked about Zoraida’s identity, the Christian knight answered: “Moorish she is in body and dress, but in her soul, she is a very devout Christian [385],” and when she announces her new name, Maria, the gentlemen were moved to compassion. Actually, Zoraida’s new identity denies her Islamic presence and enforces her absence. Rather; it acts as a confirmation of the Christian Spanish presence, which aims at both possessing her, and making her an object of pity, and thus, Other-ing her.
Regina Jose Galindo was born in 1974 in Guatemala. She currently lives and works in Guatemala. Regina practices her art works with her own body. Her works are based on violence or any cruelty caused by certain political events and personal disgrace. Those works are open to the public and to whoever relates to what is being depicted in the art work. (Regina Jose Galindo Portfolio, 2014). Galindo won the Golden Lion award in 2005 as the best artist under 35 at the 51st. Venice Biennale. Two years later, she sold this award to a Spanish artist, Santiago Sierra, who in return sold back to a collector. Ironically, in 2011 she decided to order an exact copy of the award to her friends, Angel and Fernando Poyón who were sculptors in Guatemala. Her friends gave her the exact copy, but this time the Golden Lion was casted in bronze coated in Guatemalan gold. Regina’s work is also present in private and public collections, such as the Pompidou, Guggenheim, Rivoli Museum in Torino, or the Miami Art Museum and Cisneros Fontanals Collection in Miami
What would you say are your chances of survival if you were dropped on the top of a desert mountaintop, under the excruciating, scorching hot sun of the Judean horizon? What if I told you that you would be armed with enough clean water and food to help sustain you? Do you think you could make it eight years under these conditions? This was the situation that almost one thousand Jewish zealots found themselves in around the year of 66 AD in the fortress of Masada. Here they chose to hide from the Roman hands that would enslave them and tear away their independence. What was this fortress they used to protect themselves in that would later become their turbulent tomb?
Introduction The fortress of Masada plays a very large part of Jewish history. Masada comes from the Hebrew word “mazuda”. The translation for the word mazuda means stronghold or fortress. The historical events that took place at the Masada help us understand the history, life and the deaths at the Masada.
I chose St. Angela Merici. St. Angela Merici is the patron saint of the disabled and physically challenged. I chose St. Angela Merici because she saw that girls were unable to get a proper academic education or an education in the Christian faith, and she then decided to help young girls get the education they needed. Education is very important to me just like it was important to St. Angela Merici. I was inspired by the way St. Angela Merici saw the problem of improper education and fixed it. She was also dedicated to prayer which I believe is an important quality.
