I believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. Now I’m fully aware that a portion of the world’s population truly believe that cannabis is nothing more than a harmless drug that is used for nothing more than recreational use and will not have any long-term effects on your health, but I want you to ponder on the thought of my statement and why I might believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. First what is cannabis? according to drugs.com cannabis also known as “Cannabis sativa, is a species of the Cannabaceae family plants” and “contains the chemical compound THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol), which is believed to be responsible for most of the characteristics psychoactive effects of cannabis.” Furthermore, what is health? according to Merriam-Webster health is “the condition of being well or free from disease”. Now if you just read the two definitions of cannabis and health you can see why someone would want to further research this issue just based on the wording alone, in the definition cannabis is says the plant can cause psychoactive effects and in the definition of health it states free from disease but if one is using cannabis that can cause these effects it would be impossible to truly be free from disease which lies the major problem and gets to the root of my thought process and why I believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. To elaborate more on the factors that contributed to me believing that cannabis has a
The legalization of cannabis has been a topic up for mass discussion for decades. If I were to ask anyone what their thoughts about weed were, the general response I would get would be something along the kinds of “it’s a drug”, “its bad for you”, or “its something that gets you high”. Many of us tend to have a negative view of cannabis because of its association with drugs is general. Honestly, not many of us really know what it is. I’m here to tell you why your perception on weed should be changed. We will discuss the benefits marijuana brings and the common misconceptions of marijuana.
In 2006, A Drug Free World's "The Harmful Effects of Marijuana” emerged in the media. ADFW reasons that marijuana is harmful in numerous ways, including cerebral damage and debilitation to the immune system. Throughout the article, they also try to persuade the reader that cannabis is a "gateway drug" that undoubtedly leads the users into much harder drugs. When reading this article, one must consider that research to support anything can be found if one searches hard enough, but without a doubt the fallacy of their conclusion is due to their research seeking facts to support an already-assumed conclusion. Consequently, I have found that many of their points simply do not justify their conclusion.
Marijuana smoke is a complex mixture that has many chemical components and biological effects similar to tobacco smoke. However, it also contains some different ingredients. This suggests the strong possibility that marijuana, like tobacco, could lead to lung cancer, or create respiratory distress. ?Smoking marijuana also causes changes in the heart and circulation that are characteristic of stress? states Morgan (5). Current evidence has shown marijuana also causes some chemical changes in the brain. After exposure to this drug, there have been reports of effects on brain electrical activity in human beings and in animals. Marijuana also has been found to produce an acute brain syndrome. ?This is a more severe mental problem consisting of confusion and loss of contact with reality? stated Berger (8). The main reason that the United States Drug Enforcement Agency doesn't want marijuana use to be legalized is because there is no evidence to date that proves that marijuana is an effective drug when used for medicinal purposes. Scientists have researched this drug for twenty years and have yet to produce reliable scientific proof that marijuana has medical value. New findings show that marijuana is acutely harmful to AIDS and cancer patients because the active ingredient in marijuana acutely reduces the white blood cells that fight off infection. The United States Drug Enforcement Agency agrees with police departments that if marijuana use is legalized, crime could
The article, "Current approach to marijuana undermines public health” showcases the potential issues dealing with marijuana and the concern of the public health over the lack regulation of marijuana. I argue with the writer’s stance due the growing concern of the patient’s safety and the need of regulation in order to fully understand the medical benefits. Unfortunately, there exist a line of uncertainty when voters recently allowed for the approval of medicinal marijuana, leading with a schism with the physician and patient. The system currently in place creates an unstable environment regarding the overall health of the patient due to the lack of strict regulations and taxing upon the growing industry. The lack of regulations only stacks
Marijuana relieves stress, and shouldn’t be looked at in a negative way. If you think marijuana should stay illegal than you might want to keep reading to expand your mind. People think marijuana is a bad substance because it kills your brain cells and tends to make you slow in general. What they don’t look at is it also serves as a medication. It can help with migraines, cancer pain, and epilepsy. (High Vlogs. "Weed Is Not Bad For You" Online Video Clip. YouTube, Published on May 5, 2013)
Marijuana is considered in popular culture to be a widely accepted mainstream recreational illegal drug used in the United States; its use comes with severe adverse side effects that are often overlooked. Long-Term use of marijuana 'sis shown to have negative effects on physical, mental, and environmental health. Studies have shown that in the United States, up to 20% of daily marijuana users become dependent (Marijuana and Lung Health) showing a physical or emotional need for the drug. Marijuana use has the potential to affect every aspect of a person 's physical and mental wellbeing negatively. Its use also comes with potentially life-altering risks to one 's future including an individual’s likelihood of obtaining a degree, impacting their future earning potential and decreasing their overall reported life satisfaction. Once dependent on marijuana, people stop caring about their schooling. Long-term use of smoking marijuana can result in the inability to learn, retain information and think critically.
Marijuana is possibly the most controversial drug to date. The drug is so controversial because of the health hazards it poses but also has shown signs of being utilized as medicine. For decades, marijuana has been used to suppress the symptoms of people with chronic pain or recovering from a different medical instance. Is this drug, a drug that has the potential to help heal but also cause more damage, a drug that should be labeled safe to use? The subject has been debated and will be debated for an unknown period of time. There is a combination of positive and negative effects on the user.
No matter if you have been drinking or using any kind of drugs, your perception is still being distorted and you don’t have a clear understanding of what is going on in your surroundings. The anonymous bloggers of this blog mention the health factors that go with the intake of marijuana. It can be damaging to the brain, you can develop corrupt lung health, and there is a high risk of heart disease and even poor mental health (“19 Primary Pros and Cons of Legalizing Weed”). Along with the negative effects marijuana has on the body, there are also unexpected side effects it can have on the environment.
A major health issue that is seen with the use of marijuana is a loss of coordination. As a person uses the drug they begin to become slower and slower when an instantaneous reaction is required. For example, using marijuana can make it difficult for a person to simply catch a ball in the sport of baseball even if before using marijuana that same person did not have difficulty with this task. (“Marijuana”) The main ingredient in marijuana that has a negative effect on the body, specifically the brain, is THC. When the drug is inhaled it begins affecting the brain immediately. These effects include the aforementioned issue of losing certain motor functions in addition to a few other effects. One of the dangerous effects of marijuana in the more long-term spectrum is what THC does to the brain. According to “Drug Facts: Marijuana,” a recent study has shown that the use of marijuana causes a major deficit in the brain when it came to memory and learning. This effect carries into careers and lives, and therefore the legalization of marijuana in Colorado will cause an issue in the comprehensiveness of employees all over the state. The inability to comprehend and remember will be a financial and generally inconvenient strain on the economy of the state simply because employees will need to be retrained more often than if they did not use the drug marijuana. Furthermore, marijuana gives its users a sense of dizziness and sluggishness, which, if used during work or driving could
I constantly hear that weed does not harm you, this is false. “Marijuana contains more than four hundred known chemicals, including the same cancer-causing substances found in tobacco smoke”. (Alcohol vs. Marijuana, 2013). Let that sink in for a second, it has four hundred known chemicals in it that does not sound healthy for you. I also found out that “ It has been found that consuming one joint gives as much exposure to cancer-producing chemicals as smoking five cigarettes”. (What is Marijuana, 2013). One joint is the equivalent as smoking five cigarettes, but weed is harmless, I think not. Marijuana also affects your mind to where you cannot remember things. Marijuana smokers do not have the same ability to remember and organize information compared to people who do not smoke.
Most people think that Marijuana is unhealthy and is just as worse as other abused drugs, but did you know that Marijuana is not unhealthy in any way at all? It actually is a medicine that is legally used in some states of the U.S. and other countries. It is used to treat depression, prevent most types of Cancer, and to prevent other terrible diseases. Cigarettes are the main cause of Cancer in the lungs, bones, gums (in mouth), and other Cancers and hundreds of diseases. Marijuana, is basically the opposite of cigarettes.
Some of the most significant controversies in today’s society has been on how to deal with the use of marijuana. Marijuana is a mind-altering psychoactive drug that comes from the cannabis plant. Its primary effects come from the chemical delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or “THC.” Marijuana can be smoked, vaporized, or ingested in foods or teas. While some people view marijuana negatively, others might view this drug positively because of its medicinal benefits. According to research, there are more tendencies to overuse marijuana due to addiction because of the components of marijuana. Marijuana consists of toxic chemicals such as ammonia and hydrogen cyanide, which can cause irritation to the bronchial passages, the lungs, and elevate the
Marijuana is a drug that comes from the hemp plant Cannabis Sativa as a dry, shredded green and brown mixture of stems, seeds, and flowers. The drug is also known as hashish when it’s in a more concentrated, resinous form as a sticky black liquid, hash oil. Marijuana is a mind-altering drug because its main psychoactive chemical is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. In the United States, marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug, which has significant health risks and effects on people. Since 2007, the use of marijuana in the United States has generally increased, particularly after a period of decline in the past decade. The increase in the use of this illicit drug is influenced by a
The view on Cannabis, and its affect on society is important because society should not just see the bad in things but also the good in things, and their effect whether that positive or negative. Cannabis does not just affect troubled teens, people who suffer from migraines, and cancer patients. It affects many people from many different backgrounds. The view over the years on this has changed a great deal. Cannabis is usually seen as something that people use to get high and forget all their troubles, but that is not all Cannabis can be used for. It cures many diseases also. Do not get this wrong, if cannabis is overused or used for the wrong reasons it can be very bad, even physically harmful. But, when anything is overused it can be harmful, even good things.
In today’s society, the drug marijuana has become quite popular. People use marijuana to relieve stress, for anxiety or medical issues and recreationally. What many tend to ignore are the effects the drug has on the human body when used. Marijuana has a major influence on the memory part of a brain. There are many parts to a person’s memory and the use of marijuana impacts all of them. Although there are many beneficial effects of marijuana, the harmful effects of marijuana on the memory outweigh the overall benefits. Current research provides plenty of evidence that proposes that there are real effects of marijuana on memory.
