Today she is still known by name and adored my many. As her early adulthood approached she suffered from anxiety, insomnia, depression, and many health problems. Due to her health problems, she needed a variety of medical drugs. This grew into a very strong addiction. Soon after her divorce with her second husband Arthur Miller, she checked herself into the Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic. Sadly her passing on August 5, 1962, had to do with a Barbiturate overdose. This is overdosing too much barbiturate which is a central nerve system depressant. This makes the body go into an anesthesia state and makes you feel loopy and very drowsy. As they do not know why she took the drugs or if she has been addicted for a while, but the case has been identified as “probable suicide”. Her passing has positively affected the public because someone how was the face of the movies could be affected by drugs, anyone can and how its also very easy to become heavily
Drug addiction ruins lives. It alters a person's personality and attitude causing marriages to fall apart and families to experience great strain. It amounts to millions of dollars in lost time and productivity. And it also causes deaths and accidents.
In a terrible turn of circumstances on the early morning of August 5, 1962, 36-year-old Marilyn died in her sleep at her Brentwood, California home with the phone attached to her hand. Rumors speculate of an overdose or intentionally killing herself. There was also speculation and gossip of having an affair with John F Kennedy and that she was about to go public with what she knew about JFK and Bobbi Kennedy. Also that she was murdered by 'government agents' to safeguard the president. Another conspiracy incident was that Marilyn was killed by the mafia as punishment to the Kennedy's for their attacks on them, and to expose Kennedy's many love affairs. Now with all the aspects of her death, Marilyn had plans to work on new movies and a possible
Hollywood is a very powerful modern day institution, where a star's image can characterize, shape and circulate societal myths and ideologies. The construction of a star's image as a commodity of their societal myths and ideologies has the extraordinary power to exert messages so that even the smallest details become significant yet not overtly obvious. How a star's image is produced and then consumed can justify a society's relationship with that image and therefore aid in explaining the social construction of what society deems as their 'reality'. A star's image is created through a range of representations churned out by Hollywood. Capitalism from the commercialization of these images has made Hollywood the dominant force it is
The consequences that follow the use of any drug are unfavorable. Although many individuals may see drug addiction as a mere lifestyle choice, it is a problem that many individuals suffer from and inevitably a growing issue that leaves major social and economic impacts.
There are many models and theories which attempt to explain the causes of substance misuse and dependence. They range from those which highlight the importance of genetic and biological factors to those which stress social and psychological factors and those which may consider the ‘blame’ to be that of the dependent individual (Rassool 2009).
The negative impact the drugs and alcohol abuse and addiction has on the overall health of the user must be considered. Every process and system in the body is adversely affected by the over-indulgence of drugs and alcohol. Some of the health problems regularly noted include organ damage, kidney and liver disease, organ failure, congestive heart failure, respiratory depression, memory lapses, brain damage, infection, stroke, heart attack, and overdose.
addicted persons encounter include, difficulty in holding jobs, maintaining stable marriages, making and keeping friends, obeying laws, and functioning as caring and responsible parents. These difficulties are related to the fact that getting and using drugs leaves little time for other activities.
Addicts use drugs to overcome their feelings. If an addict is feeling sad, happy, or angry, they use. This leads to their addictions. After a while, the addict can’t hold a steady job,
For years people have been abusing drugs and alcohol. “People take drugs because they want to change something about their lives”(www.drugfreeworld.org).
Someone who abuses drugs may suffer negative consequences from using, as the addict does, but generally can and does stop when these consequences become too severe. The addict may be unable to stop, even after negative consequences, without medical and/or behavioral help. Says Steven Hyman, M.D., director of the National Institute of Mental Health, "An alcoholic taking a drink looks like anyone else engaged in that behavior, but what 's happening in his or her head is different.” He or she is in the grip of a powerful compulsion that may lead to a binge. (Firshein, Janet)
Substance abuse is the harmful or dangerous use of any psychoactive substances including drugs, alcohol and even tobacco. The term ‘Substance Abuse’, as understood today was first used in 1987’s DSM-IIIR, before that social & cultural factors were not considered. Even with that change, many Americans still today consider drug and alcohol abuse to be moral weakness or character defect.
The use of drugs weakens the immune system, causes cardiovascular conditions, liver damage and other bodily damages. Also, both drugs and alcohol are proven to leave a lasting effect on someone’s brain. The only way to stop these damages is to stop the addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. In today’s society, there are a lot of drug and alcohol related crimes. 80% of the nation’s inmate’s abuse drugs and/or alcohol, 50% are clinically addicted and 60% tested positive for illegal drug usage after being arrested. It is also one of the causes of domestic violence. 25-50% of family violence is caused by drinking but not all domestic violence is caused by drinking. Crimes involving drugs are usually when people get caught selling them or when they get caught using said drugs. The media also has a big effect on the consumption of alcohol in today’s society. They have created a mass variety of alcohol advertisements that appeal to specific audiences. Some commercials show that if you drink their alcohol, then you’ll get more women and be more attractive while others show that if you buy their brand of alcohol, then you’ll be more popular. They use things that’ll attract men, like women, cars, popularity, money, etc., to influence men to buy their alcohol. Social media has also portrayed drinking alcohol as something that everyone does, especially in college. While I cannot vouch for everyone, I know that not all college students consume a lot of, if any, alcohol. Most
Addiction is a state characterized by compulsive engagement in “rewarding” stimuli, despite adverse consequences. Unfortunately, addiction is extremely common amongst many people from many different backgrounds, including our beloved celebrities. What some fail to realize is that addiction isn’t planned, I don’t believe that anyone wakes up and decides to get addicted to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, sex or any other form of addiction. Many reason’s people get addicted to certain substances or lifestyles is because of much deeper cognitive issues, such as depression. These cognitive issues lead people on a path, hoping for an escape from their everyday problems resulting in their unhealthy addictions. My question is, Are celebrities more susceptible to addiction?
Sub details-Addiction many times reaches a point in which addicts are not only harmful to themselves but others around them as well.
Addiction is a problem that many face in the world today. Many people think of addiction as food or drugs but I believe it is much bigger than that. Celebrities can become addicted to beauty, drugs, money, and unhealthy food. Addiction means there is something that comforts you from the outside world. They face many problems and in most situations the solution becomes addiction. The most common celebrity addiction is drugs. Drug addiction has killed many celebrities throughout the past years. They run to drugs because they are overwhelmed with stress or they feel like their world is falling apart. I can relate to celebrities because I have an addiction to music. I am addicted to music because it makes me feel better no matter what my situation is. Music is my mind-altering
